Katips was one of our go to places for Sisig decades ago. We found ourselves pulling up to double park here on a rainy Saturday night.

We were famished from all the walking and work shopping so I think we over ordered.

On the table
🔹Cheese Sticks - crisp rolls with heavenly melted cheese and a vegetable which turned out to be green bell peppers.. We couldn't stop munching on these. The brown dipping sauce was good but the cheese sticks were ok as is.
🔹Frozen Margarita - I had to quickly drink this as it was melting and making a mess. It didn't taste good so I just let it melt away. I guess I prefer sweeter margaritas.
🔹Bulalo ni Katips - aka Nilaga. We loved the broth and the uber tender meat. I kept on scooping out the crunchy vegetables. We couldn't resist requesting for patis, calamansi and sili though.
🔹Pork Sisig - it was as delicious and as crunchy as I remembered. It was flavored well but I couldn't help but add even more seasoning. I ate this with a lot of rice!
🔹Garlic Tahong - the star of the night. The main reason we are coming back. The cheese, garlic and the liquid gold tasted heavenly. We haven't had tahong in a long time and we are bent on getting more goodness soon.

Parking is a bit of a challenge but they assisted us. They even held umbrellas over our heads as we made our way to the stairs. We were double parked but we didn't have to move our car during our meal.

I'm sure hubby and I will be back for the Garlic Tahong and Pork Sisig as long as we could find a parking slot.

Serving sizes are not the best for the price and the service is the slowest. We paid in advance for our bill and we felt like hostages because we couldn't storm out. The staff weren't exactly hospitable with our needs. No tip for them. Cheers

Affordable beer. Just a typical restaurant, good for a drink out with friends sans the super loud music.

Decided to meet up in with a friend after a stressful Monday. This particular branch used to be a big place but now, they are sharing the space with Tokyo Bubble Tea. I have not been here in probably a decade.

Upon entering, the first thing I noticed was how much the interiors have changed since the last time I was here. They allotted the front of the resto for those who just wAnts to wine and dine.

Upon entering a waiter immediately approached me and asked if I was looking for someone. When I said yes, he quickly ushered me to the back of the resto.

Entering the "bar" part of Katips, you will immediately smell cigarette smoke. The interior was quite dark and there was a flat screen tv showing the last NBA game between Ind Pacers and Miami Heat.

My friend and I decided to order Pork Sisig, Tuna Sashimi and Salpicao (I'm on a quest to find the best Salpicao. So far, it's still Aruba.) and beer, Double Chilled.

The beer arrived first. My friend immediately checked if the beer was indeed Double Chilled. Sadly, it was not. But it was chilled enough to water down my stress for the day (paired with good conversation always). When the food arrived, I immediately attacked the salpicao. I was disappointed to find, however, that although the flavor was good, the beef was not as tender as I hoped it would be. Chewing became such a task. The sisig was --- sisig. Nothing grand, really. The tuna sashimi was the best -- given that it was raw and they basically did not have to do anything but cut it. (hehehe).

After the meal, we decided to take our beer bottles outside (the smell of cigarettes was getting to be too much).

Overall, I enjoyed 2 things in Katips. The beer and the conversation.

Here for lunch with my mom. It's been years since i last visited this place.

Sisig is still pretty good. But the fork they gave me was dirty so i will only give them 3 stars.
