I was pleasantly surprised with this place. Its one of the more affordable katsu places in the area. My parents keep inviting me to eat here and we finally did for my dads post-birthday dinner.

I had the curry katsu set. It was pretty good for 215php! Filling and the serving was big. Loooooved the curry sauce, but it wish they used japanese rice instead of just normal rice.

The tempura set is another meal i would recomment. Praws were pretty big, juicy, and fresh.

Overall good food and good service!

128518 YAY (must-try):

Pork Katsura - serving is a little small but worth it at that price (Php215)

Shrimp tempura - the prawns are HUGE; highly recommended, might be the best thing on the menu

Pork curry - not at all spicy, just how I like it

Pork katsudon - eggy goodness

🤔 MAY (can try):

Gyoza - tiny; barely there

Chicken katsu - a little tough, more breaking than protein

128530 NAY (avoid):

Nothing I've tried disappoints.

FINAL VERDICT: 128522

"A cheap alternative to Yabu. Value for money and not crowded. Worth the trip if you like breaded pork cutlets. (Who doesn't?)"

The price should have been a bit lower compared to how it is. The food tastes decent, but it is not excellent; it is somehow bland.

Yesterday was UP Diliman's Lantern Parade, it was also the time to get my exam results. Eek 128557128557128557 While waiting, we decided to eat something new. And we found out there's a Japanese restaurant near UP! Because we were so so hungry that time, we headed to Katsu Cafe without hesitation. It was also said that this was the cheaper version of Yabu. Hmmm.

It wasn't crowded that time, and we ordered right away since we were the only customers. Me and boyfie ordered pork katsu set and gyozaaaaaaa!

It took some time to get served, we saw my orgmates (who will also watch the Lantern Parade) also as they entered the cafe! Hahaha wala lang unexpected lang. The place was small, but interiors were good. Alas, lunch has finally arrived!

Their gyoza was good, but lacking flavor I guess? I love salty food kasi 128517 the katsu tasted good! Although it was small, it was fine with me since I have a small tummy 128514 It was flavorful, and dip it on the sauce 128523128523128523 I also fell in love with the miso soup 128525128525128525 one of the best soups I've ever tasted 128077🏻

Sadly the soup and rice were the only unlimited serving. Too bad I love the cabbages in mayonnaise!

Will we go back? Definitely! I want to try their jumbo prawn tempura! 10084

The place is just small yet I love their lightning of their resto. Ordered their Pork Katsu Set, Tempura Set and Gyoza. I like the taste of their Tempura. The Katsu was just fine yet not too juicy. Foods were not bad for their budget friendly price.

I know people will say I should have ordered their best seller dish (obviously, katsu!) but since its not my first time, I decided to try their ramen and "jumbo" or should i say "enormous" prawn tempura! They are really big and I'm not exaggerating!

Japanese cuisine has a notable reputation for being healthy and in this day and age, we are all for that. So I guess it's safe to say that it's one of everybody's favorite. I'm a die-hard fan of Italian food but I believe Japanese cuisine has a far bigger league of its own.

The rise of katsu and ramen restaurants in the country has been consistent in the recent years due to the continuous patronage of Filipinos. Katsu Cafe is amongst that list.

My favorite is their torikatsu set and I never dine without having a bowl of kani salad. I think the preparation of the latter is so ingenious. Intead of simply slicing the cucumber, they actually shred it to appear like noodle strands. It's so perfect since the watery cucumber balances the generous layer of Kewpie dressing on top. Not that anybody's complaining though.

All in all, if you happen to be starving and want to get yourself some quick katsu fix (on a budget), Katsu Cafe is the right choice. It may be far from being the best katsu place in town but it can definitely hold its ground within the Katipunan area.

Ramon L was hoping on having dinner at Sweet Inspirations after school, but the lack of parking space made us go around Katipunan to have dinner elsewhere.

Katsu Cafe still had a parking slot when we passed by, so we decided to eat here instead. I ordered the Chicken Katsu Set (Php 195), while Ramon had the Pork Katsu Set (Php 215).

Just like any Katsu place, they give you sesame seeds to crush in a suribachi (bowl) with a surikogi (mortar) while waiting. I find the wait too long for a small restaurant, but good conversations w Ramon help with the wait.

When the food was served, the waitress told us that the rice and the miso soup were refillable. I wished the salad had unlimited servings too because I always finish that first. Anyway, I enjoyed my order. The serving was just enough for me, and I even finished my miso soup which I rarely do. I almost asked for seconds, but finished up the few spoonfuls of Ramon's second serving instead.

It would be unfair to compare Katsu Cafe to the likes of other katsu giants, and so I won't, but I did like our visit and would go again when the craving hits. It's easy on the pocket too, which is the biggest plus for allowance-dependent students like us!

Hooray for my last first day of the semester EVER! Woohoo! I do hope I don't jinx it though lol 12855710084

So to "celebrate" my last first day, the Darling and I had lunch at Katsu Cafe earlier. I've been hearing a lot of good comments about this place from other people and I must say, they're damn straight!

✔️ Pork Katsu Set (Php 215) - is what I ordered and it's your typical, good tasting pork katsu. Nothing special / unique really, but it's really good!

✔️ Jumbo Prawn Katsu Set (Php 435) - is what he ordered and I wouldn't mind spending 400 bucks for katsu if this what I will be ordering. The jumbo prawns were legit JUMBO. No kidding. And it wasn't all breading. It was like 80% prawn meat and 20% breading. And mind you, it was very flavorful. My favorite katsu set here so far. 128149

The sets include unlimited rice, cabbage and miso soup and also comes with a cup of tea and the black sesame sauce. 128077

I wouldn't wanna name drop and all but I think I'd choose this over Yabu anytime, considering the quality, taste and cost all together. 128557128514

tried katsu cafe once at katips with friends. this is a cheap katsu place so no need to compare with the staple katsu joints that we're used to.

cheap decent katsu. miso, rice and the chix katsu was okay. chicken breading was mediocre buy acceptable. cabbage was coarsely chopped. katsu sauce was good imo.

service was so so. maybe on the slow side.

patrons are mostly students so it's not really a place for quiet dinners.

parking is bad, kalye parking along the streets if katips.

Ordered their Chicken Katsu Set and Gyoza for dinner. It was very filling and at the same time worth the price! A good alternative for Yabu especially if you're on a tight budget. Unli-rice and miso soup = SULIT! 128522

Staff were attentive however the place was quite noisy even though there were only three tables occupied 128532 (Sorry but why are there people who tend to shout when talking to their friends? 128530) Super busog that it came to the point where in we wanted to walk from Katsu Cafe to Starbucks for dessert. 128514 Also, I preferred their rice during my first visit. Their rice now was kind of ordinary compared the last time.

A place where you can have an instant and affordable Katsu fix! 128522128077

• PLACE
- The place can be improved. It was really small. I guess 20 people can accommodate that area and it's a bit cramped. Too bad there's a lot of diners going in this place, but they can't afford to accommodate them. But for some reason, I find the place homey. 9786

• SERVICE
- Excellent, One of the nicest service I ever had from a casual dining place. We don't need to call for their attention whenever we need something, "may kusa" as boyfie said. One of the most sincere server ever (forgot the name) but yeah, there's a different between I'm doing it because I NEED to, from I'm doing it because I WANT to. 128521

• FOOD and PRICE
We ordered 2 different Katsu set (Chicken 195 pesos and Pork Katsu 215 pesos) All comes with the following:

- Rice - Unlimited. Not Japanese rice, but the serving size was huge! Sprinkled with sesame seeds.
- Cabbage - Not unlimited. Soyong! 128539 Drizzled with roasted mayo dressing. A bit watery compared to the usual texture of the dressing.
- Miso Soup - I liked it better than other katsu houses. I guess it's because it's 'saltier' for my taste and I find it really nice! *I love salty foods128587
- Chicken and Meat - Not as tender as others, but it's good padin. Paired with the Katsu sauce and grinded sesame seeds. 128523

If you're going to this place, don't expect it to be like Yabu level, but for that affordable price, who are we to complain? 128521

Tried the pork katsu set for lunch today 127857128055The meat was soft, yet lacking in flavor IMO. The set costs 215 and for a student, the price is a bit steep 128064
The place was cramped too. As in elbow to elbow gaming kayo ng katabi mo habang kumakain...

Would I eat here again? Maybe I would IF I really want katsu but I'm too lazy to drive to the nearest Yabu place. Ehe 128586128586 9786
