Kawakawa Hill and Nature Park is owned and developed by Albay representative Fernando Gonzales... The 25 hectare park was developed to boost ecotourism in Ligao city. It was named kawakawa due to the crater on top that resembles a cauldron or kawa in the local dialect....
The park has no entrance fee but they have a minimal parking fee for your vehicle. The place boasts trees and greenery everywhere. Look for the pili trees that grow in abundance. The most unique thing about the place is the stations of the cross that go up the hill. Literally PENITENSYA when you go up the steep 1,037 meters to get from the first to the fourteenth station. Our legs were burning and only 5 of us made us to the top! Exercise, exag. It's a little difficult to finish the stations midday because 7-14 isn't shaded by trees. We didn't attempt it because of the heat; going here early morning would be better. But the top of the hill offers scenice views of the city down below... According to the vendors, the place is filled with devotees during the Holy Week...
Speaking of vendors, we all had their sili dirty ice cream, which is creamier and not as spicy as the 1st colonial grill version. Cheaper too at P20/cone...
They do offers activities such as horse backriding and ATV rides. I recommend the ATV at Mayon though, that is the best place to do it.
Before leaving, say a prayer at the church that is currently undergoing construction. It looks like it's going to be a grand place once it is finished....
