I had a scheduled meet up with my best friend tonight for some wedding planning concerns. We were about to have coffee at CBTL but sudden change of plans and we were at Kenny Rogers Roasters at SM Cubao.

For a long time now, I have not eaten at Kenny Rogers because I haven't found the time to visit a branch of theirs. But I remembered that when I was in high school, I super loved what they have in their menu.

From their classic roasted chicken to the various side dishes that you can add with your meal, to their salads, sandwiches and burgers, to their signature corn muffins, they really do have a good set of menu items that I actually enjoy eating.

Sadly, dining here tonight made me a bit sad because of a number of things.

I ordered the roasted chicken set meal which included two side dishes, a muffin, a cup of rice and a serving of iced tea priced at almost 200 pesos. This was a usual meal that I order way back.

When the order came, the servings of the side dishes were a bit small. I could actually count the number of pasta in the Macaroni & Cheese. The muffin was too small already. Sad, as these two items were my most favorite.

The Mac 'N Cheese was a bit tasteless. The sauce was too liquidish and I could not taste the creaminess and milkiness of the cheese. The mashed potato was served generously but it doesn't have a taste too. I should have asked for some salt to put on it.

The chicken was just OK but it seemed to me that there are some missing spices that actually made its flavor not that delicious? Good thing there was some gravy on the side to give it life.

The saddest part was the muffin as it really was too small compared to how it was before. It doesn't taste fresh too! It was hard to chew and its originally soft inside was totally its opposite now. My companions weren't able to finish theirs as they were disappointed with its look and taste.

Sad but still I appreciate how the place is well taken cared of. The lighting and ventilation were OK. Tables and chairs were clean. Servers and waitstaff were attentive, something that could save their sad food servings for tonight.

The last time we ate at Kenny was 2 years ago in SM MOA. Offspring and I were quite satisfied sharing their chicken.

So when we dined here again last week, I ordered the super salad meal and thought Offspring and I could share their solo meal chicken again. Offspring is 7 y/o and has a habit of eating half a cup of rice now and half rice a couple of hours later. Imagine my surprise when they served our order. It's just enough for my light eater daughter. Ang liit at payat ng chicken. Mas malaki pa yung binibili ko na breast fillet sa grocery. Also fresh fruit daw. Daughter loves fruit but she was disappointed with the fruit side dish. She can tell that it's not fresh. Panay pineapple chunks pa ang laman. She only eats fresh fruits. For its price, their meals are very disappointing.

Salad is not ok din, nangingitim na yung gilid ng leaves, lalo na yung sa ilalim ng plate. :/

Their staff is really nice though. She even offered to take our photo when she saw my phone on the table.

Since I wasn't feeling adventurous, I opted for my favorite Grilled Chicken Fillet with Rosemary and Thyme (P200+ for one side dish). It was okay, but comparing it to the other branches where I usually order it, the chicken was a bit burnt and dry. The rice was a bit oily than the previous ones I've eaten. And the corn muffin was such a disappointment that I wasn't able to finish it. (All I tasted was something powdery and sweet that definitely didn't taste like corn)

Thank God the Sour Cream and Chives Potato still tasted as delicious as how i always remembered it. It didn't look that tasty on the outside, but eating it left a sour and savory flavor that permeated my taste buds. For a side dish, however, it was awfully few.

I enjoyed pairing my meal with the Pumpkin Soup (P75 if I'm not mistaken), which has somewhat a distinguishing sweet taste but creamy nonetheless.

My mom ordered the Grilled Fish, and tasting it made me wish I ordered that instead. It wasn't succulent but not too dry either. What brought out its taste was the sauce they served with the fish, which was brownish-black with a watery consistency that was just the right mixture of salty and sweet. I should have asked them what it was. :))

As for the staff, they were very polite and efficient.

(No picture for this post, as I finished the food before realizing that I wasn't able to take a picture. Sorry. :)) )
