I love pretending to be a master chef like Gordon Ramsey. Though I may lack the skills to do all those French culinary terms, I appreciate that there are several restaurants now that let us experience cooking our own meals. We have grill your own Korean barbecue, create your own pancake, mix your own hotpot and make your own takoyaki. Yes, I'm talking about those famous Japanese street food treats.

Hello, Kenshin Japanese Restaurant.

This Japanese restaurant along Yakal Street is a gem in the city.

We were greeted by very Japanese interiors and murals that would make you feel like you're in the Land of the Rising Sun.

Kenshin offers a lot of dishes, from sushi and sashimi to tempura and katsudon. For this visit, we zeroed in on what Kenshin is known for--DIY Takoyaki (PHP299).

As total newbies to takoyaki making, one of the friendly servers patiently guided us on how we could make edible takoyaki balls.

I wasn't able to take photos of the steps as we were being shot by the Unang Hirit team as part of their DIY restaurants segment. However, here are the steps: (1) Put oil on the takoyaki plate using the short brush provided. (2) Pour batter on the holes till overflowing (3) Put the other ingredients (e.g. octopus, red ginger, scallion, shrimp bits) on top of the overflowing batter.

(4) Roll or flip the mixture to give your masterpiece a round shape.

(5) Put Japanese mayo, takoyaki sauce, aonori and katsuobushis on top for garnish.

We did all correctly except for one thing, some of the takoyaki balls only had red ginger while others only had octopus and the like. I guess we should have mixed the ingredients more before dumping it on the batter.

Taste-wise, it was pretty good. Despite the lack of variety of taste per ball, I think we did a decent job in making it round and it having the right texture. And it was a fun experience too!

I'd definitely drop by again if I'm around the area.

Ever since my friend let me taste a takoyaki, I cannot erase it on my mind... so yeah. When my plan with my bff got cancelled, I called my other bff and "OY KENSHIN". And because it is unplanned, because i don't have OJT today, and she's already dismissed from class, natuloy kami!! Yehey.

We mistook a lot of restaurants in the same building because there were many japanese ones. 128517

We ordered the Ramen and California Maki Set. The ramen and california maki was just fine, nothing really unusual with it.

We also ordered the DIY takoyaki because it's takoyaki and it's DIY... We both love going to DIY restaurants (DIY burger, DIY okonomiyaki, DIY korean bbq, etc) but I always let her do the cooking because I'm constantly afraid I'll fail during the process. 128517
But the staff made me do it and told me it would be fun... so yup... My friend did almost all of the "put the ingredients here" and all I ever did was to flip the half cooked, already stuffed takoyakis. And it was fffuuuuuunnn. I don't know why but doing your own food is kinda thrilling because you know what's inside, you know how it was done, but you do not know how will it taste(that's the thrill), while deeply hoping you wouldn't flunk in the process. 128531
My friend garnished the cooked takoyakis like the Salt Man, sobrang fun niya talaga. Promise.
As a result, the takoyakis taste great! We have 16 takoyakis to share and it's not bad for 299 pesos for two persons, yay!

We also ordered the Matcha Kahlua Smoothie, Passion Sake, and Sparkling Sake. The matcha kahlua smoothie tasted like something between a suspension medicine and irish cream. The passion sake is flavorful on the side of the fruit which made it tasted like a normal passion juice, while the sparkling sake kicks stronger. We would have tried the Sake Mohito if only it was available. :(

It was an enjoyable unanticipated experience especially now's the busy year for us. Thanks Kenshin! We'll be back for more takoyaki!!

I'm not really a Takoyaki fan, actually I don't like it at all. But my work mates dragged me to try this make your own takoyaki place. And it did not disappoint.

This takoyaki tastes gooood and it was fun making it!! We also ordered California Maki, it was so-so. I think I would go back here to try their noodles or maybe bento box.

Back to this izakaya again, based on my visits here this place is usually packed till 9pm.  Probably the reason for it would be its late closing time, not so expensive japanese dish and good japanese dish (well it depends on what you will order).  This place was nice in terms of its ambiance, i guess its because among the ordinary and hope in the wall type of chinese resto around it, this one was the most well lit and had english friendly menu.

We arrive past 8pm so the waiting time was just 15 to 30 mins which if you are with good company it wont really matter.

We ordered their mix sushi, my impression on it is that it lacks raw stuff like tuna, sushi, etc.  It more on the california sushi and the likes.  Nonetheless it was a winner in terms of making your belly full.

I went with bento meal of mix tempura with miso soup, salad, etc at around 300.  Their tempuras are really good here.  Its one of their dishes that i would return for.

For dessertd it still matcha parfait for me, i totally forgot that i already order this before but its okay.  It was a bit sweet and the jelly at the bottom looks kinda weird.

Almost forgot to review this 128522 sometime last week we found this new japanese place that operates until 3am, yes 3am. Perfect. No reviews yet at looloo so got to rely on instinct on what to order.

Most items here were around 250 to 500 that were good either for sharing or solo. Went for the following.

- Sukiyaki Beef, it was actually good. I think this ones the best among all that weve ordered.

- pork belly cooked ala teppanyaki, it doesnt taste much of an authentic teppanyaki but nonetheless its ok.

- tonkotsu ramen, hmmm... if your used to ramen from ippudo, nagi or mendokoro, stay away from this one as this is on the other end of the spectrum. I think what they missed here is the noodles, it somehow taste like a chinese noodle thus gave this certain hint of flavor that makes you wanna give up on this dish. Sorry 128533

We were given complimentary coffee jelly ice cream, just dont forget to post a pic on your feed as part of their promo.

The place is actually very inviting, bright lights with japanese lanterns and oh by the way they offers DIY takoyaki, this looks interesting, so probably next time together with their matcha beer.

Ill give this a 3 stars for the moment bec. of the... ramen 128533 but other than that the service that we got was good. Will definitely be back.
