That day, my friend Darlene was craving for Japanese. Ramen Nagi is too expensive she said, so we searched for something that fits the desire and the budget. As we were walking along Mall of Asia I saw Kimono Ken. My friend just wanted sushi, I wanted ramen.

Given the fact that its inexpensive I had to manage my expectations. I ordered ramen, they have no spicy variety but the staff who attended to us provided chili pepper. No amount of chili powder could make the flavor hotter though but it was okay. The ramen itself doesn't hold a candle to the more expensive ramens that I had before. If anything, the broth on this one lacks flavor and I do not mean the not being spicy enough part. I liked the firm noodles though so I ate all of it and didn't bother finishing the broth.

Darlene had California Fry Maki. Each piece is bigger than what I in the past, I couldn't even eat it in one bite.

The Mixed Vegetable Tempura (PHP200) is quite interesting. It is made of sweet potato and the serving is big. I'd probably be stuffed even if it's the only thing that I eat.

Kimono Ken is one of those restos I'd brand as just "alright." It's not amazing but it's okay.

Since we both like Japanese and we were starving, Kimono Ken ended up being the first japanese resto that's not too expensive that we saw. It's not the most adfordable but it's also not too expensive.

Service was fast and efficient. Ambiance is nice. Marjorie G ordered a ramen and I ordered California Fry Maki (Php 180) and Mixed Vegetable Tempura (Php 200).

Maki is quite good. Rolled very tight. Although I must say that I still like the non-fried version better. The tempura is crisp and not too oily. Although some have clumped batter on it so it ended up quite dense.

Will I go back? Probably to try out their other best sellers.

Not a fan of jap food but I love their rice variants. But, to consider the food and the place, 4 stars. Nothing really special for me.

After our mystery manila adventure, lol, we decided to eat in Kimono Ken in Mall Of Asia. I ordered their Kani Tempura (refer to the picture above) it's cost is 200 pesos. Guess what it's only the ulam. The price of the rice is separate from the price of the main dish. I ordered their plain rice for 40 pesos. A bit expensive, yes. The only thing the I loved in Kimono Ken was their ice cream(because I love desserts) hahahaha. Cookies and cream flavored ice cream for 75 pesos and I think it's just two scoops of ice cream. Medyo maliit, kakabiting. Hahaha! We just tried it and I think I won't get back here na. (Conyo much) hahahaha 9996

They say for less, but actually expensive for the usual taste of jap food. The server is so unfriendly. Maybe it's that time of the month. And the kimono ken special mix juice tasted weird.

Having Japanese lunch on a weekday breaks the ho hum of canteen food. This restaurant serves it fast and with friendly service. We liked everything we ordered except the fried wanton. Oil was old. Still, This restaurant is worth every penny.

Was surprised that MOA opened late today due to the Elections..

The wifey did her usual distressing routine (shopping) and my kids and i went to the entertainment area.

After an hour or so of bowling, timezone and toykingdom... We were hungry again!!!

Decided to check Kimono ken as looloowers gave an average 4star review.

We ordered ff

Shoyu ramen
California maki
5pcs ebi tempura
Beef teriyaki
Chicken teriyaki
Yaki soba
Grilled shishamo
Tonkatsu
Ika teppanyaki
3 chahan

Total bill P2,285 w s.c

From all that we ordered i only liked the shishamo, the rest were either mediocre or plain unappetizing.

The beef teriyaki tasted burnt sesame and oil was maanta.

The ramen and soba used the same noodle and not surprisingly tasted alike...nilagyan lang ng sabaw... Ramen na..both tasted below par my expectations.

My verdict: Kimono ken is at same level as tokyo tokyo ..Better pa ang karate kid in my opinion.

Tip: do not trust star ratings as food taste is a very subjective matter

Kimono Ken (MOA branch) doesn't set itself apart from other Japanese restaurants. I was mildly disappointed with their pricey menu .
Their Shake Keridon (Salmon with Rice) was prepared blandly, unlike most sashimis I am used to. Their Chicken Teridon leaves less than to be desired. 128581
