Surprised to see a sign for Kimukatsu when we were passing by the food court... From previous visits, I was pretty sure it didn't belong in that setting. I got curious because I loved Kimukatsu when we first tried it years back... I also remember that we took full advantage of Deal Grocer's offer for this establishment before... Plus I like the word mille feuille for some reason...128517

But this store is different... From the same company, they bring us Kimukatsu Tei. According to my cousin (who lives in Japan), "Tei" in this case means low level or standard. They have a different and no-frills menu from the one found in their restaurant. They have made certain adjustments to make this a more on-the-go place.

I saw that they were offering the same flavors of their katsu on their menu. I went for the cheese katsu set, served with rice, cabbage, miso soup and a drink for P200... P180 if you opt not to get a drink. I waited for my order off to one side. I fixed my wallet & bag, answered a text, got utensils and a straw, and made funny hand signals to my fiance to indicate where we should sit... When I turned around, my order was ready. It was pretty fast actually.

The katsu was smaller than what is served at the restaurants. From the regular 130 gram size, this joint serves us 100 grams. But I still thought the serving size was generous. The cabbage didn't come with unlimited servings, but the portion size was reasonable and had lots of dressing. No unli rice either and they use white rice, not the sticky Japanese rice. The miso soup was as expected. None of the red or white choice they have at the restaurant. The katsu wasn't as juicy or flavorful as in their regular restaurant, but it tasted okay for me.. I found it sulit for the price I paid for.

Obviously, I wasn't expecting the same food quality as in the restaurant. No fancy presentation and pretty utensils here. Of course, no waiters, just self-service. Food court atmosphere, but with a solid product at a good and cheaper price point. I liked how they were able to take their expensive product to something affordable. It was still recognizable and revolved around the same idea; but without the frills.

Not too shabby in fairness!128522

Gwen I so sorry for not letting you rest so near the holidays! I don't have a copy of Kimukatsu Tei's menu though.🙃
