Japanese restaurants is always close to my heart. And with every new restaurant I visit, I always make sure to order my usual -- Japanese curry and Korokke (Potato Croquettes).

AMBIANCE: 127775127775127775127775
The place is perfect for a small group of 4 to 5 people. Although it can accommodate bigger groups as they have a separate room where you can reserve. The interiors are well-lit and the purple accent makes it more relaxing to the eyes. It would be a perfect place for a night dinner date.

SERVICE: 127775127775127775127775
The servers are attentive and the waiter I talked to really knows the menu, except, if the place originated from Japan. She did confirm that the owner of the place is a Filipino though.

The place is not crowded that time so I can be easily assisted with my water.

QUALITY OF FOOD: 127775127775
This is where the downfall begins.

Cheese Korokke (P168) - A staple household Japanese food and I cook them. These lovely mashed potato balls that are crispy in the outside but soft in the inside is just perfect to start my meal. The 5 pieces potato balls was on top of crispy potato strips just like PikNik. Itcomes with a sauce (tasted like tonkatsu sauce) which is great to taste. It was really soft and really delicious. Definitely a must-try for me.

Japanese Curry (P308) - Simple verdict, NOT GOOD AT ALL. Another staple food that I always cook.

The taste is not bad as expected but it was not special. The smell and the taste of the curry is not there. Even a hit of spicyness is missing. Point of improvement would be for them to check how AUTHENTIC Japanese curry should taste. I hope the chef comes up with a better idea on how to improve its taste.

The pork was one of the worst I had. They are successful in frying it, but when you get to the port it was dry and not tender! I can probably forgive if it was dry, tender? No, it's NON-NEGOTIABLE. Hey, Mr. Chef, better get back in the kitchen and re-visit how to prepare the dish!
---

Although we all heard the clichè, first impression lasts, and yes it true. But, I think that there's a big chance for me to re-visit. There are a lot of things in the menu that I wanted to try so I need to find time to check it out. Their sushis, maki and even the pizza might be a better option next time.

Until our next review! Am all over the place, check out my BIO! 9996🏻10084

I found out about Koku while I was searching a food magazine for carbonara recipes. Their Japanese Carbonara was featured there so I was intrigued. Can a carbonara with only crispy salmon skin be as good as those with bacon?

Oh not only as good but probably even better!

The carbonara was legit, it's not the alfredo type. The salmon skin and the seaweeds made it so flavorful. Such a simple but delectable dish. And such a steal for only P218!

Their Aburi Sushi and Geisha maki were also really good. Creamy, buttery, and cheesy, they almost melt in your mouth.

I am so glad this is close to my work. I'll probably dine here as often as possible 128522

First time here and sadly im disappointed with our dinner here.

Food serving time was too long.
Katsu was too chewy and tonkatsu sauce was too sweet.
Curry was more chinese than japanese.
Was given a cold tea with some sort of floss in it. 128529 But i was hoping it would those used in tea bags.

Maybe their maki's are the good ones here.

I ordered their Geisha Maki with cucumber, kani, and mango in it and topped with seared salmon. I LOVED IT. It was heaven in my mouth. It was divinely rich and bursting with flavor. 128525

I was also able to try their Dynamite Roll (salmon, tuna, cucumber, and chili threads). I think it tasted a little bit salty, but I still enjoyed it nonetheless. 128077🏼

Will definitely come back here to try their other dishes. I heard their Oyster Papaya is a must-try!

Second time here and it still did not disappoint my taste buds. I brought my officemates here for dinner. I was eager to order the Japanese Carbonara which I promised myself the next time I come back here but I had a hard time deciding since the menu offered other delectable dishes which made me think twice. It was a toss up between the Tonkatsu, Miso Soup + Gyoza and a Ramen. In the end, we ordered the following

1.) California Maki (8 pcs) - It had a similar taste with the usual maki. Presentation and taste wise it was just okay and typical for me.

2.) Chicken Teriyaki - Served in a bowl of ric with slices of chicken meat and teriyaki sauce. My officemate ordered this dish and presentation wise it looked normal. Not much news on how it tasted but I think it was just average as well

3.) Tonkatsu - Served with a bowl of miso soup, tonkatsu pork, a portion of cabbage and a huge amount of rice. Honestly, I was expecting a Yabu-like size of pork and a generous serving of cabbage but since the price was cheaper, I understood that I was not getting the same. Miso soup was just okay. What I liked about this dish was the rice. Their japanese rice is just heavenly. It had the right amount of stickyness and very delicious. The spotlight shifted from the pork tonkatsu to the rice itself. The pork tonkatsu and its sauce complimented the rice very well. Seriously, I could eat the rice all by itself and still crave for more

4.) Katsudon - Also served in a bowl of rice topped with pork and scrambled egg. Presentation was very enticing and judging from my teammates reaction after eating this meal, I think he was very satisfied with his order.

5.) Tendon - This food that was ordered by my officemate stole the show as soon as it arrived at our table. It was also served in a bowl of rice topped with two pieces of gigantic prawn tempura and 2 pcs of vegetable tempura. I did not hesitate to ask my officemate if I could taste her food since I was really envious of her order. The tempura was perfectly seasoned and the wrapper was not too thick which was very good. I promised myself again that I will order this next time.
Aside from the food, I was also able to appreciate more how well lighted this place was. I was amazed with their interior and ceiling design. We also noticed that there was corrugated foam which covered the table underneath. We were debating on what it was until our server explained that it was to minimize the noise/soundproofing.

Looking forward to another dinner here at Koku. Next time, I think I should already go for the Japanese Carbonara and some tempura to finally to put a closure to my cravings.

Chachi L and I celebrated an officemate's despidida here on a friday lunch. Our officemate recommended we eat here. We were 3rd in line but got seated around after 15-20 mins (roughly). The order also came a bit longer than I expected but since we were catching up and talking to each other it was ok for us to wait although we were already very hungry. The orders came one at a time and it also took some time to bill out as well.

We ordered the ff:
128073Japanese Carbonara - suggested by Chachi L and recommended by our officemate; did not disappoint me so i will give it a 128077128077128077128077128077

128073Gyoza - i recommended this as it was delicious and sulit during my first visit and still did not disappoint me so its a 128077128077128077128077128077

128073Pan Grilled Salmon with Mango Salsa & Crispy Potato Strips- i recommended this as it looks good on the menu pic. Did not disappoint me. Serving size is big and the salmon was grilled perfectly. The mango salsa and potato strips added a good twist on this dish. That's 128077128077128077128077128077 up as well

128073Chicken Teppanyaki with Veggies - The chicken was a bit salty and not very tender for me but serving size was generally ok so I'll give it a 128077 128077 128077

A Japanese resto place just a few walks away from our office! Rachel T and I celebrated the despedida of our beloved project manager from way back one of our first projects together. I read a good review about the Japanese Carbonara and couldn't wait tot try it out.

We ordered the following and I recommend that this should be tried as well by others wishing to dine in here

1.) Japanese Carbonara - 128513128513128513128513128513128513
2.) Chicken Teppanyaki - 128513128513128513128513
3.) Pan Fried Salmon with Mango Salsa - 128513128513128513128513
4.) Gyoza - 128513128513128513128513128513

Most of the food in here is affordable. The salmon though a bit pricey is reasonable considering that it is salmon and the size is big.

Unfortunately, I only got to take a picture of the Pan roasted Salmon with mango salsa.

Would definitely come back and recommend it to my other officemates and friends 128077🏼

Out of curiosity with this new japanese restaurant that opened near our office, Teemee T and i decided to visit it.

The place was well lighted, has a very nice ambiance and i liked the setup of the walls, tables and chairs. Although Teemee T noticed that the sound of the people talking inside the resto was echoing all over the place, making it quite noisy and difficult to hear each other.

Since ot was our first time and we are unsure of the serving size, we decided to order one dish first. For our first dish, We agreed to try their maki pizza cause the concept was a bit different and i haven't tried a maki as a pizza so far.

The topping we decided for the maki pizza was the salmon. Serving size was a bit small for me considering the price of the dish. They used the rice as the pizza's pan. It was fried and a bit sticky. While they used the rest of the maki's ingredients as the pizza's toppings. There is also a hint of spiciness because of the wasabi sauce placed around the pizza. Overall, it was tasty and delicious but a bit expensive.

Since the first dish was small, we added an order of gyoza and tonkatsu. The gyoza for us was worth it because it was big and it wasn't very expensive. But i noticed the gyoza's wrapper easily breaks and taste better when dipped into the sauce served with it. While for the tonkatsu, i was a bit disappointed since it was very fatty and the meat was just like pork chop. The coating was tasty but the meat wasn't. You have to dip it into the tonkatsu sauce for a richer flavor. The rice served with the tonkatsu was generous and the miso soup was perfect, but the cabbage and its sauce was a bit bland for me.

Service was ok.

Came back for more and these are awesome too - Spicy Tuna Maki and Agedashi Tofu - at a total of P430 only. Serving size is for sharing and taste is just yum. Spiciness level is tolerable.

Food tastes good, serving size is for 2-person sharing, ambience is clean and modern - over all, I like this place. There's lots we tried as a group like maki and salad and cheese rolls, but it's the soft shell crab salad that stood out from the rest. For my solo order, I tried mushroom tepanyaki (see photo). Everything was good except for the dark ones, their probably seaweeds or another type of mushroom, I can't tell what it is because they were too salty. Other than that, everything else is just about right.
