Eversince the move, Camp Sawi, debuted and learning that it was filmed at Bantayan Island, I was just eagerly excited to see the place.
At the entrance, the famous arch with the 'Camp Sawi' signage, hangs to welcome guests and visitors. The shoreline was quite different from the movie as well as the lounging areas. The scene where camp master offers Bridgette a breakfast meal, the elevated area was there but it was just wala lang. hehe #hindiakonaamazed #paranglibronanapakalayosatotoongitsura
The place where the resort is situated is what the locals call the beach area as sugar sand. The sand is sugary in texture but not as fine as Boracay. The shore is a bit high in surface and not as leveled and flat as the one in Sta. Fe Beach Resort. The view as well is just so-so for me.
Service lacked. There were no one to greet or welcome us, not even the security guard outside. Parang walang workers dun, hindi mo maiisip na resort pala sya.
So apparently, a lot have been visiting the place especially the signage at the entrance. If you just say na you wanted a photo with the sign, they charge 50php/head #negosyonegosyolang my niece and nephew got charged! But good thing my cousins and I blended in and we weren't charged with a fee. #actandwalknormal

Kota Beach Resort has gotten more famous because of it was featured in a movie. We were booked in the resort beside it but we wanted to try the food here in Kota.
Their menu is more extensive and they even have a bar which offers a variety of drinks. Since we we're not a guest of the resort, we are expecting that we'll be deprioritized. But to our surprise, we were deprioritized real good. Our orders came in after 1.5 hours while the other people are already drinking their nth order of beer/dessert. Good thing that their food was just okay and we were all full after our meal. Getting the check also took some time. We were all sleepy and a bit grumpy after waiting for our meal. So instead of following up our bill, I went straight to the counter and asked for the check. It took them just a minute to print it. Haaay.

I surprised J with a trip to Bantayan Island during his visit. When we were planning his visit, we just aligned a few restaurants to go to in the city. I'm not really good in keeping secrets from J, so I blurted out the plans of going up North a day earlier than necessary. Hahahaha Oh well, he said he was still surprised about it.
The commute is quite long, but if timed well then it'll work out perfectly. J and I took the early morning bus to Hagnaya Port. If I'm not mistaken, it's the 3am bus ride. Typically it's the time I'm supposed to be asleep, so I was pretty much sleeping the whole time. We got to the port by 6:30 AM. We then rode the ferry to Sta. Fe by 7:00 AM. It was another hour and a half to the island so J and I pretty nuch just slept throughout the boat ride. My tip is to travel at the time you're supposed to be sleeping, so your body will feel the need to sleep during the commute.
So we finally got to the Island and the first thing we wanted to do was to hear mass as it was a Sunday. I'll tell you more about the church we visited in a separate review.
We then had lunch in this place that I just read about on TripAdvisor. Our lunch experience was mind numbingly awesome, we had dinner there too. I'll write about that place separately too. After lunch, we proceeded to our resort.
J and I stayed in Kota Beach Resort. This is the resort in the movie "Camp Sawi". I told myself it was in this place, or we wouldn't go for Bantayan anymore. To be honest, it was quite a struggle getting a room in this resort. I think they gained so much popularity after the movie aired in cinemas. We stayed in a Standard Air-con Room because it was the only available room then. It was really cheap. When we were checking in, apparently one of the Deluxe Rooms was vacated a day earlier than expected so I asked if I can pay extra and get that room instead, but for some weird reason the reception lady didn't really take me seriously. Oh well, no upsell for them then. I think they don't really need my money, apparently.
We arrived an hour earlier than the standard check-in time so they let us lounge around the couch by reception first. It was all good, it was breezy in that area, and it wasn't too long until we'll get our key. At exactly 2:00 PM, we got the key and we went to our room already. I still found the lowest room category to be nice. All of their rooms, even the one that's right by the beach have no TVs. So you have no choice but to do beach stuff. It's nice because it's like a retreat. The bed wasn't so bad either. Their beach
The beach is beautiful. It was so relaxing that I literally ended up taking a nap on one of the outdoor loungers. It was just what I wanted for the stay. No frills, no fuzz, it was absolutely great.
Bantayan Island is a haven for those who just want to get away. The beaches in Sta. Fe have white sand and are absolutely beautiful. It's still not too crowded here. Generally, J and I had so much fun in our 2 days - 1 night trip in the island. I'll definitely come back, but probably not too soon. It's the long commute that makes me think twice about the trip. Plus, there's so much more to explore in Cebu too!

Have you watched Camp Sawi? This is where they shot the movie and it's not how I expected it to be.
I was a bit disappointed with their beach/shoreline, it was really dirty (human trash) and the beach smells bad (IDK why) 🙄 Guests also don't have privacy since lots of other tourists go to Kota Beach just to have a photo w the Camp Sawi signage.
Nonetheless, the people of Bantayan are really friendly - I think despite that we weren't able to enjoy the beach (bc it really lacks privacy), atleast we enjoyed how hospitable the people are.
They also have a bike for rent for only Php 150 for 24 hourse

The rides (land and sea transportation) to Bantayan Island are not pleasurable for sure. From Mactan-Cebu International Airport, we had to take a cab to this bus terminal to bring us to the ferry that brings people to Bantayan Island.
Since we took a bit of time to enjoy our lunch, we missed the last air conditioned bus heading to the ferry. We were stuck in a dilemma of whether to shell out more money and rent a van or ride a sauna bus. We opted to rent a van. (We were lucky to find two strangers heading to Bantayan too and were willing to share the van's rental fee of PHP3,000.)
Wrong move. The van was just as bad as a non-AC bus! It was so hot inside that I hyperventilated!
The ferry ride was also not so good as it was filthy and extremely crowded.
Words cannot describe my happiness when I finally reached Bantayan Island. The horrific rides have come to an end. (Or so I thought. Sadly, the ride back was worse as it was way hotter and there was this undesirable stench in the ferry that would make you dizzy and see the "light".)
After a short tricycle ride, we have finally reached Kota Beach were we spent 2 nights.
The place is humble looking but has a beautiful shore. We all got beach front cottages (PHP3,000 a night) to enjoy the sunrise and sunset.
R suddenly felt sick on our first night and missed dinner. (<--Proof that I'm not kidding with how crazy the trip is to get to this island.) With R not around, the others and I headed to the resort's restaurant for supper.
We ordered a bunch of dishes as we were really famished. It was a long day of traveling and we all wanted hot meal to cap the night.
However, the resort does not seem to be equipped with enough manpower and resources to serve at least 3 tables. It took them over one hour to serve a sizzling plate of sisig (which was really good).
After countless follow ups, we found out that our other orders will take another hour (or even two) to be ready. We then decided to cancel our orders and head elsewhere.
Thankfully, breakfast was a lot better (despite the battle with flies). Our pre-ordered meals were ready by 8 a.m.. I must say, their simple danggit breakfast meal was great!
The beach was great too! Fine white sand and clear blue water. There were also a lot of hermit crabs. We had fun catching it. (We released it before heading back to Cebu.) Watch out though for jelly fish!

I choose to LIVE
I choose to FLY
A week ago, my friends (Jaizen and Kat) and I went to Bantayan Island; and stayed there for 3 days. In took us 4 hours bus ride from Cebu North Terminal to Hagnaya port and 1 hour boat ride from Hagnaya Port to Bantayan Island. We went straight to Kota Beach Resort, rested for awhile and went to the beach. We chose Bantayan Island coz we just wanted to chill. It was a serene feeling just being in the beach -- sitting in the beach, watching the sea, kwentuhan and listening to music.
We rented a bike coz it's more, covenient and we go anyplace we wanted to go to.
If I'm going to go back here, I prefer staying back here at Kota Beach Resort. The resto's are near, either you could walk or ride a bike and the beach front is perfect rather than the beach at Anika's! 🏼

Look at that pristine beach! The water's so clear, the sand is so fine and this place is paradise!
It took us 4-5 hours by land and by boat from Cebu City to reach Bantayan Island. One helluva a long ride but the trip was worth it. We stayed at Kota Beach and got a cabana priced at P1,500 per night. We were 3 girls so we just had to split it at P500 per pax per night served with breakfast. The room had 3 single beds, a T&B plus A/C. There's no activity at night, a whole lot different from Boracay but I think I'm much more for this kind of serene beach. I wanna go back to this place soon!

It's been more than a year since I went here with 2 of my good friends. I really loved this island though travel is really long (especially if you're nursing the hangover of the century).
We stayed at Kota Beach. I think I made a mistake of booking an economy row house since the room was really only intended for sleeping. There was nothing to do there since there was no TV. Booking a cabana would've been a better option. And I swear I'll do that next time.
Also, when travelling to Bantayan, make sure you stay for 2 nights as travel time takes 3-4 hours. Another day would've been great for island hopping and exploring caves.
I'd love to go back and I sure will. When that time comes, I'll make sure that I'd stay longer and explore the island.
