Forget the crowded Little Tokyo, head to Kuretake. Very unassuming. Serves beautiful Japanese dishes ranging from ramen to teriyaki chicken to my favorite CHIRASHI KIKU DON! By far the best i've had in Manila!

Disrespectful doesn't cut it, BASTOS yung server (Joanne). And it even extended to her fellow servers! I'm vegan now. I don't ask for much. I ordered for a "vegetable futomaki." Is it wrong? Does it not make sense? When it came, it had crabstick and egg. I know what a "futomaki" is, the fact that it's a VEGETABLE futomaki means something else. I asked why my roll was like that and she told me "ganyan po talaga yun. You should have asked kung vegetarian kasi wala namang description yung item" as if I was an idiot or lacked common sense. She was not apologetic at all! And I guess she complained about me because soon after I heard laughter over the words "special order ng vegetables" and multiple servers looking at me. And when I'd look them in the eye with an expressionless face, they'd look away awkwardly.

If you're looking for a place to get fresh Japanese food with an expansive menu and reasonable prices, Kuretake's one of your best bets. 128077🏼

I only discovered this place recently even if we've been going to Rockwell since I was a kid. I guess we got tired of the usual Kaya-Chilli's-Via Mare?? 128541

The first time we went here I tried their tempura, spicy tuna maki and grilled mackerel. Everything tasted really fresh! Their spicy tuna maki is tiny though especially compared to the likes of Oma, but the flavors are all there. The tempura prawns were huge and crispy, just how I like it 128076🏼 Medyo nagutom ako though because the tuna maki was so so tiny 128517

On our next visit I got the sukiyaki ju and I was pleasantly surprised at how HUGE the serving was. Really. It could serve two hungry people!!! Hahaha. It was really satisfying and not just because of the serving size 128522 I also had some of my sister's Sakura chirashi and the fish was amazeballs. 128561 Intense levels of freshness!!!! The vinegared rice was also really good. Next time I want to try the one with hamachi 128513

Sakae sashimi. It's the mixed sashimi set with hamachi and salmon. Really fresh sashimi. Dropped by for just a light lunch so I didn't get to try the other dishes. Same owners as Tsumura (which is one of my favorite Japanese restaurants in the metro) so this place is promising. Must come back.

Kuretake always satisfies my endless Japanese food cravings! Got my usual order of tenzaru soba, which comes with ebi and veggie tempura 1008410084️ it was substantial and light, which meant I had room for Morelli's afterwards hehehhee

Place was packed cos it was a Saturday night, so service was a bit slow. But Kuretake remains my go-to for Japanese food whenever I'm in Rockwell!

The moment we entered, it smelled like a wet kitchen rag. The odor subsided after a while, though, or maybe we just got used to it.

I had the tori katsu ju. The meat is tender and the almost cooked egg on top is silky. It's a good bet for those who isn't feeling very adventurous with their food choices. The tofu steak is soft and slightly sweet but massive compared to other restaurant counterparts.

I really should have tried their sushi. I always judge a Japanese resto by the freshness of their raw seafood.

Mamou was full so we ended up here. At first I thought it's owned by the Sumo Sam group so I was skeptical about trying out this place, but turns out it wasn't.

Pretty decent Japanese food at okay prices. The Tofu Steak was really fresh and the tofu portion's really big even if there's just 3 pieces. They haven't perfected their Tempura batter so don't expect fluffy, gigantic, crispy batter exterior (but then again some restaurants I've eaten in Japan haven't either, maybe to each his own?) but what I really like is that the prawn's really big and thick, whereas other restaurant's prawns are just half of this (thickness-wise).

Everything tasted fresh but nothing really special about their food especially when you compare their menu to other Japanese restos. If simple straightforward Japanese is your thing this is a good place to go. Everything took awhile to be served so we were discouraged from ordering a second round :-(

Another Japanese place I tried out! My Japanese friend actually recommended Kuretake to me for quite some time but it’s only recent that I had the privilege of giving it a shot. This one has so much variety of Sushi and Sashimi, I kind of felt bad for all the fishes they murdered for our gastronomic pleasure. For me, their true winner here is their Salmon Sahimi. It’s huge and well presented. I haven’t had Sushi that tasted as fresh as the ones they served.

we were suppose to eat in kimpura greenhills last night. but i really wanted to go to rockwell. it was around 7pm and i was wondering if there was no traffic so i checked waze. waze told me that it'll only get me 25mins from my house to rockwell. so we decided to go to powerplant instead. i was even 3 minutes early because traffic in edsa was so light.

anyway, we ordered 2 orders of ebi tempura, a bowl of miso soup, a bowl of japanese fried rice, a bowl of steam rice, a plate of yasai itame, and a plate combination of salmon sashimi and tuna sashimi. everything was ordinary except of the fantastic salmon sashimi. price was not ordinary. hehe

anyway, checked waze again going home and it said again that i'll be home in 25mins. waze was wrong by 3 minutes. hehe

Since EDSA was hardly moving, I decided to bring my wife here for dinner. Service was quick - just as it should be since most of what we ordered was raw. The food was exceptional. Since we had time to kill, I ordered some of their unique sushis. Didnt disappoint.
