Kuya J was one of those filipino restos that gets alot of customers on a weekend mall visit. I dont have any idea whats the hype with this resto as i thought people might just want to try out new food, or the family bonding over fiipino resto or its bec of the celebrity endorser (maybe part owner, hence the name) has some pull over its customers.

Gave up attempts to dine over this place unless its on a weekday and weekday it is as we had our lunch here.

I was expecting filipino food like gerrys or dencios style but i was surprise with premium feel of how each dish were prepared.

1. Kare kare bagnet - creamy peanut sauce with large portion of bagnet.

2. Sisig - easily their bestseller as the sisig was not chopped rather shredded that makes each spoonful less guilty.

3. Torta talong - i know theres something different on first bite and i believe they mixed cheese into it. Not greasy nor soggy. Its also a must.

4. Cucumber Shake - the usual cucumber thats refreshing. It would be better if they lessen the sugar.

Kuya J is a notch above the usual filipino dish thats not too expensive. Maybe a tad below the likes of mesa and manam but its certainly a place that i would go back to.

First time at Kuya J's. This place is suprisingly jam packed even on a weekday! Must be that good huh?

We ordered their Sisig, Adobong Kangkong, Sizzling Bulalo and Tablea Leche Flan.

Sisig. This was such a winner. I love the flavors. It wasn't fatty too. Lovely with a lot of calamansi! Panalo!

Adobong Kangkong. Another Winner! Perfect balance of salty and sour! My goodness, that was delish!

Sizzling Bulalo. 128513128513128513 Hella Dry and super hard. Didn't finish this dish. 128584128584128584

Tablea Leche Flan. Another winner! Can't get enough! No wonder why it was the best seller. Not so sweet too it is a different twist to your leche flan! Must try!

Here's what I got to say. Since the place was soooo jampacked a lot of the best selling items are out of stock. Whenever you order something "Ayyyy pasensya na po, out of stock" 128513128513128513128513 Grrrrr. That can be annoying when almost everything you want is not available. Also when I paid.... I didn't seem to get my change back 128513128513128513 I waited a good 20 mins and nothing. Wow ah. -1 star....

My lola celebrated her 80th birthday at Kuya j's Solenad branch. We are supposed to eat in one of the usual Filipino restaurant in the area but we decided to look for another option. And poof! We found this. I immediately searched for the reviews online. Since my lola (given her age) is a picky eater and a loyalist of Filipino cuisine, we decided to dine in.

Their food choices are great. we had a hard time deciding what food to order. So we asked the crew for their best sellers. We ordered grilled scallops, kare kareng bagnet, crispy kangkong, kuya j's fried chicken, chicken salad with sweet sesame dressing, pork sinigang, sizzling mixed seafoods, sotanghon guisado and pancit canton.

To start the feast,we tried the salad and kangkong. Im not a veggie fan or lover but I must say I enjoyed these two plates. The salad has good texture and I can say the greeneries are fresh based on its moist and texture. It is finished by a sweet dressing! May palate cannot resist this. But wait, the crispy kangkong is also a must. Its crispiness and flavor added more plus to its presentation.

After this, I tried the scallop. I can say that this is the best scallop so far! Its mozzarella cheese melting and coating the meat is 100% panalo128521 after the appetizers, I loaded myself of the dishes. Usually my friends and family always label me as "takaw - tikim" but this time I was not. I enjoyed the heavy sauce of kare kareng bagnet with its crispy pork belly. The chicken is okay - Just like ordinary but the presentation hit me. Mixed seafood gave me a delight too since it satisfied my palate of the right combination - gooey and juicy! The noodle are okay. But the plating and presentation are nice . Too bad I wasn't able to try the pork sinigang since I was bloated na. But my aunties and uncle said that it was okay - not so
Maasim.

Btw, i tasted the halo halo too but not so much, kuddos also for its super fine texture and not tinipid na sangkap

More than these, what I really liked in this experience is they made us feel
Special especially my lola. The entire crew greeted her with a song, banner and dessert. It made her smile- the biggest smile I saw that day 128514 too bad i wasnt able to get a picture or video of this magical moment!

Try Kuya J's restaurant and it's a worth visit!128523128513

Went to Kuya J's last Sunday before attending mass. It was a quick lunch as we're running out of time, and my bf and I are both starving to death. ( or was it just me? ) haha.

Anyway, we quite went back and forth the Lower Ground of Bldg A and B that I almost lost my patience (and sanity). Haha. Good thing we saw Ateng Guard who told us which way to go. She told us it's at the Bldg A at the very far end corner.

It was Sunday so we were somehow expecting a long queue but good thing there was an available table for 2.

He wanted something with soup as a viand so we ordered the Sinigang na Baboy - Php250 (we were already checking the menu online while on the way so we know what to order).

The place was a bit small but one thing I noticed was the wooden interior and the tables they have. They have round tables, long tables, tables for 2 and for 4. It feels like the place is meant for family gatherings.

I saw that one of their best sellers is the Grille Scallops for Php230. I was tempted to order it because I love Scallops! However, I decided not to because we still have to meet up with my friends, which means we will eat again. So to save up some space in our stomach, we decided to order the Crab Rice Platter (Php175 / good for 2-3 pax). Yeah, I love seafood! Haven't I told ya! Haha.

Serving of food takes almost 15-20 minutes. Imagine my tummy crying out loud. Haha. While waiting, my eyes wandered on th3 nearby tables, checking how's the presentation and the serving size of their food. The table on my left ordered a Kare-Kare and it looked delicious, three of them shared with it. They seem enjoying their food while my stomach keeps on drumming. Haha

So I followed up our order and in a few more minutes, it finally arrived. There were 2 bowls served, the other was a free extra Sinigang Soup. The other was the one with the pork and veggies. I loved how the pork was fairly sliced into thin square and that there more or less 8 slices in it. I could tell the serving is generous here. But was disappointed with the taste. I can't help comparing it with the 'Sinigang na Babi sa Sampalok' of Mangan because they almost have the same price range when it comes to their menu. Kuya J's was not that tender unlike with Mangan's that melts in the mouth.

The soup tasted fishy. I'm not sure whether they use the same soup with their Fish Sinigang. I'm pretty sure it wasn't because of the rice because the Crab Rice was delicious! Like I ate it alone when I can no longer stand the taste of the viand and it's still good. It has real crab meat even though the color isnt orangey (w/out the taba ng talangka).

My bf finished the rest. Haha. Still happy we only paid less than Php500, which rarely happens. Haha. I would go back here to try their Grilled Scallop and other Filipino Dishes. Btw, they have different choices for Rice Platters too. So I might also include that in my list.

Overall, I can say Kuya J's is one of the price-worthy restaurants (that offers Filipino Cuisine and homey vibe) you could try!

@hermouthisfull gives 128077128077128077because she didn't see Echo there as she expected she would. Hahaha Kidding. :)

I find it great actually when it comes to service. 128077🏽
The waiters/waitresses are very attentive although the cooking time is not really that fast. (15-20mins)

We loved their SINUGLAW. 128513128077🏽10084
I also liked the bbq on top of it. The meat was easy to eat and the sauce was tasty! I think grilled menu is going to be one of their specialties.

The kare-kare is OK. Nothing really special.
The Ensaladang espesyal is OK. It's warm for a salad but I liked the mixing of flavors from the Salted egg, tomato, eggplant and bagoong.

Drinks:
Cucumber Juice 128077🏽128077🏽128077🏽
It's not really something new but hey it's healthy. It's also refreshing and it also tastes good.

PS: quite disappointed with the Pancit Palabok. Small serving size but pricey. 128555

Overall experience: 4 out of 5

It was just okay I guess, nothing spectacular about the food. In my opinion the food in general was lacking flavor. Wouldn't go back to this place again. Pretty bland tasting dishes but that's just our observation upon tasting their "best sellers".

We had a family dinner at Kuya J and ordered crispy pata, chopsuey and seafood soup and had chorizo dynamitas . for appetizer. The family's verdict -- except the dynamitas, everything tastes sweet. crispy pata was ok except for the sweet sauce. my hub commented that the chef must be a former pastry baker :-)

Finally tried this Kuya J's resto last September. I always see this in Marikina and glad last September , I treat my auntie for her bday here but at Megamall branch. We were the first customer that one weekday,

The place was huge, elegant , spacious and very modern. There image model is Jericho Rosales by the way.

We got sisig, pancit canton and calamares plus rice. All is good for sharing. We were stuffed and satisfied. Fast service and staffs are accommodating. Prices are very affordable128077

Definitely coming back for other dishes

Took their specialties so no more hit or miss. The crispy pata and Kare Kare were nicely plated, good to taste and reasonably priced. Place was pleasant and modern and they (like some mall based restos) have a restroom for convenience. Getting the sinuglaw on my next visit.

Very good for the first salvo. The one pictured above, Tokwa't Baboy with tuba-vinegar infused soy sauce, is free every Thursday. I believe they just opened; service is very good. Will definitely give it a second try for their other dishes. Their fresh lumpia has crabmeat and is a winner.
