La Marea is a small and unassuming local coffee shop that looks plain from the outside.

Step inside and the same impression befalls you. It's plain. A little too common. But my boyfriend persuaded me that La Marea's sweets are good so we went in and I tried their classic warm brownie with vanilla ice cream. The lady tending the store told me it is their best seller so I gave in.

They served the warm brownie on a paper cup and, yet again, I was unimpressed. Then I dug my spoon in and took a bite.

Woah! Boy, they got me! I went back to being a kid again. For that fleeting moment I was convinced I'm 10. 128588

It was so simple yet it blew me away. I was surprised! 128525

I'm giving them 3 stars because:

1. They were able to convince me to come back
2. Their staff was friendly and accommodating
Last, but not the least, 3. Their brownie reminded me of the homemade chocolate my Nanay used to make during Christmas season

I just hope they tweak the interiors. It is the first impression that gets the customer to come in but it is the food that makes them go back. They nailed the food part already. They just need to make their space more homey.

Bad service. The staff weren't smiling and even felt irritated when it took us a while to finalize our orders.

Bad ambiance. I was expecting a cozier type of place. It's very small, not to mention dry and dull. Not really the kind of place you'd want to sit for a while and read a book.

Bad food. Tried the the classic choco brownie, chocolate trifle, mocha sansrival, and coffee jelly. The coffee jelly is aawwwwful. It's bland and has a weird texture. Their sansrival is too hard, i think what they gave us was an old dried up stock. The choco brownie and choco trifle are okay, but nothing spectacular about them.

I'm never coming back.

No Cebu trip is complete without a visit to La Marea. Say hello to both happiness and calories 128517

Their warm brownie ala mode is still killer. Loved it. 128523

My only issue is the white chocolate brownie was more of a condensed sponge cake rather than a brownie. Didn't enjoy it so I stopped halfway and ordered my usual warm chocolate brownie ala mode. You can never go wrong with that 128077128077

The dessert to die for!

I really don't have a clue that this is one of the best dessert places in Cebu, because one, I do not even know this place (coz sometimes I'm in Mars, sorry guys). Two, I do not know they served the best tasting desserts (I thought this is a resto with a specialty food -- my bad). Lastly, I do not know that this is a highly recommended food spot (kill me now!)

We ordered their famous warm brownie cup and warm peanut butter cup.
They served their specialties in a cup, topped with ice cream that best compliments the taste of each one. The prices range from P110-P400.

So guys, if you happen to be in Cebu, look this place up! La Marea don't have branches in Manila!

I heard that La Marea was famous for its brownie cups. So I made it a point to try them when we went to Cebu for Sinulog.

The brownie cups were good! But I don't think I'd be craving them anytime soon. There are a lot of desserts here in Manila that taste even better. The banana cream pie, on the other hand, was so delicious! Just the right amount of sweet.

Nice little cafe where you can hang out, have coffee, read a paper, surf the net ;)

Best seller was the brownie in a cup with ice cream, sort of like choco lava cake ;)

They also have other selections of cakes which we didnt have a chance to try. We did see a couple of folks order out whole cakes though so it seems like a popular place to get cakes too.

Coffee was good, they Lavazza, although my almond flavored coffee didnt really stand out with its almond flavor.

The bibingka was a bit strange, somehow hybrid of the traditional bibingka and cake. we were attracted to the look, haha. It looked really fluffy and yummy! This one was disappointing. we should have just ordered another brownie im a cup instead :(

They sell Cebu Sylvannas but all came in 10's, we just wanted to try the different flavors including green tea matcha. but unfortunately they did not have assorted pack. Maybe next time ;)

After a full day of sight-seeing and lechon-eating in Cebu city, make sure to make room for dessert and head to La Marea. The warm brownie in a cup is simply divine. Not too sweet, but just right. We also tried the sugar-free apple pie and coffee jelly. All of the desserts we've tried are great. Try ordering coffee or tea to go with the sweet treats and ask the friendly staff for their house favorites. The only problem we had is that we can no longer fit any more food in our tummies! :)

It's so quaint and small, this dessert place. Once I entered the tiny all white dessert salon, all I could smell was c-h-o-c-o-l-a-t-e. the smell of newly cooked chocolate envelopes the air, there's really nothing else i should order but their famous Warm Brownie Cup. M's bro spoke so
highly of it which got me intrigued to visit in the first place. The cup is half filled with a molten brownie and topped with vanilla ice cream. there are other variants to this too. the brownie is sooo buttery, but the sugar was purposely put on hold so it's not "nakaka-umay." you gotta try it when in Cebu. Made especially for chocoholics.

A perfect date place.. Laid back and casual. Browny cup was a bit bland compared to the best of the best brownies. Bring your date here and I'm sure you'll score pogi points.

They have sugar free desserts for those who health conscious.

Zubuchon is so hyped so I asked a Cebuano friend of mine to suggest a good dessert place in Cebu, he told me to go to La Marea and get one of their brownie cups.

And so I did. And I did in every flavor available that night.

Yema
Blueberry
Peanut Butter

My immediate favorite was the yema flavor, just because… I love yema :) and it came with white chocolate flavored brownie, instead of the regular chocolate one. I also tried the original flavor but for some reason, lost the photo I took of it. (Nabura ni clark, eh ubos na niya 128557128557128557)

So what makes these brownie cups so special? If you ask me… I don’t know, really. The brownie on every cup didn’t even taste like it was freshly baked. Concept was nice, I’m glad I got to try La Marea’s brownie cups, but nothing so “errrmerrgerrrd” about them. The ice cream they use is really good though!!!!

Although I was told to only go there for the Brownie Cups, I just can’t pass on anything red velvet, so I ordered this… Red velvet sandwich? Worst ever. NO hint of cream cheese frosting, so I wonder what that filling is supposed to be? The cake was dry and bland, what is this red thing? 128561128557

Chocolates and sweets are not my thing. Until i discover La Marea classic brownie cup. It was cloud 9 (yes! So OA) but its true. A combination of a newly baked moist chocolate brownie and cold vanilla ice cream is to die for. Will definitely drop by on our next Cebu trip. But of course, i couldn't pass up the opportunity to bring something to a friend with a sweet tooth @JohnLesterPalisoc - Yummm!! love cookies #MuscovadoCookies

Warm brownie cup = super comfort food!

La Marea has pretty interior displays. I guess the only thing missing to complete the experience is to have the brownie inside a porcelain instead of a paper cup.

Whenever you are in Cebu & you crave for an after-dinner dessert and tea, go to this place. Highly recommended by locals to try their Warm Brownie Cup washed down with their hot Twinning's Fruit Tea....perfect combination. 128525 Hope we have this here in Manila.
