Would have given 4 stars but everytime we’d eat there, parking was full. Their parking can only accommodate about 4-5 cars. And each time you’d come in, you will only see 2 tables with patrons. The other parkers?? — The Owners. They couldn’t care less if their customers can park or not.

La Spezia MNL ~ A taste of Northern Italy 🇮🇹

BURRATA - 11088110881108811088
Mozarello di Buffalo, Melon Leather, Local tomato, Basil, Pistacio, evoo
- I would replace melon leather with orange segments or lemon zest to add citrus on the dish other than that's it's "Bellissima"!

Pancetta, Pomodoro Sauce, Pepperoncino, Parmigiano-reggiano, evoo
- Was expecting cuts of pancetta but was not in the mood to mingle. Just a lot of pomodoro sauce and chili flakes.
SPAGHETTI ALLE VONGOLE VERACI - 1108811088110881108811088
Clams, Pepperoncino, Parmigiano-reggiano, evoo
- First time to try a clam pasta and this one sets the barometer. First bite hits you with a smoke taste and you'll want more like you were put into a spell. I wish for bigger clams tho and it would Perfecto!

BRACIOLA DI MAIALE - 11088110881108811088
Balsamic glaze porkchop, Couscous mixed with Mediterranean produce
- Sous vide to perfection and the balsamic glaze is on point. My wife love the couscous so i gave it all to her. Request to have it the fatty part a little bit charred cause it's glorious 128519

CAMICIA PEAR GELATO - 11088110881108811088
Poached pear and flambé pear, crush graham, vanilla ice cream, balsamic syrup
- Perfect way to end up your trip in italy. You'll get a caramelized sugar from the flambé pear, gelato is perfect with a dust of graham. I just wish they have the pears poached better cause its still tough.

It was my second time to dine in La Spezia, the first one was with some clients and taking pictures with them was sort of awkward - so this time eating with the wife and her sister, things are a lot easier!

For the antipasti, we got the burrata or should I say - they had the burrata. 128517 Being lactose intolerant, I was happy when I saw that it was a mozzarella burrata. Most of the time, when I see a burrata - it's always white cheese that's really creamy. I thought I could eat this since i can typically have mozzarella, but it turned out to be a mozzarella wrapped burrata since the outer layer was the only portion made of mozzarella - it was practically cream inside so I couldn't eat any more of it. So that's that for the antipasti!

For the main course, we went with the vongole & the beef with ground lamb ragu. First off, the vongole - clams were nicely cooked, shells open and seasoned properly all the way in. Clams were not sandy too considering it was rainy the past few days so this was a good sign! The dish was topped with chili flakes giving it some heat, the chopped red peppers give it a nice balance also. The only downside for me was the boiled pasta, but not complaining since they are a small restaurant so making fresh pasta without a steady crowd would make overhead a little high.

Now, while the vongole was pretty good for me - the star for this meal was the ragu! You can differentiate between the meat ball, the lamb on top of the polenta - it had zucchini slices and the dish was generously topped with basil leaves. Each chunk we got was juicy, tasty - every bite infused with flavors.

Good points to note:
• very generous with the balsamic vinegar and olive oil
• the parmesan cheese you get are shavings vs powderish parmesan (aka processed and salty parmesan)
• each dish takes 10-15 minutes to prepare as it's prepared from scratch
• despite the perceived high price tag, gives very good value for money for the portions you get

A very nice "home restaurant" by Dr. Lozcano in the Tomas Morato area, service was nice but can't give a lot of credit since we were the only diners at 140pm, parking spaces are pegged at 3 in front of the restaurant.

Extra tidbit:

It does remind you of the dishes we had in Cinque Terre back in Italy, where La Spezia was the "gateway" to the 5 coastal towns! A nice place for a good quiet meal!

(Sneaked in a picture of one of the towns in Cinque Terre - Riomaggiore at the end of the picture series!)

This is probably one of the latest addition to the long list of restaurant along Tomas Morato. I heard this store was just recently opened that is why I like to try it hence my review. Let me share this to my Looloo friends to try this place out. 128522

This store is located along Scout Lazcano. This place is hard to find at night since they have a very small signage and not very visible at night. If you are coming from Tomas Morato, you can turn on the side street where Alfredo's stand. It is stone throws away from Romulo's cafe. This is also located beside a derma clinic which is easier to spot than the signage of this restaurant. 128517

Their servers are well trained and well mannered. They would serve utensils, water and plates immediately after taking your order. The owner itself will be taking the order of your choice and would explain the dishes that you prefer. They also serve complimentary bread which I think they made it themselves. We were so hungry that we ordered additional serving of bread which cost 40php.

Burrata - 450php - the owner claimed that this dish is one of their bestsellers (a minimum of 10 servings per day), since I was curious on what type of dish this is, we gladly ordered one. It came out with one big ball of cheese, kernel corn and arugula which compliments the taste itself. The mozzarella di buffala came directly from Italy which isn't one ordinary cheese like what we are used to in Italian restaurants. The mozzarella is so soft and a little gooey. I am not sure how to eat this dish but I mixed them all up and the taste does not disappoint. It looks small but it sure is heavy in the stomach. I highly recommend this dish to everyone.

Spaghetti Pomodoro E Basilico - 470php - the serving was ample enough compared to Burrata as we were able to divide the dish into 3 equal parts. The dish smelled that that of jolly spaghetti. 128514 it was refreshing to the palate after having Burrata, in my humble opinion, I think this dish complements well with Burrata. The noodle itself seems freshly cooked too. The sauce was also just enough that it hugs every spaghetti with no excess, it looks like it was calculated precisely.

Ravioli Alla Blanc - 390php - this dish came last. What I was expecting was a lot of small ravioli but to my surprise it was one just big ravioli. The ravioli skin itself was thick which was good and the inside filled with generous amounts of spinach. *Yum! Will turn into Popeye anytime now* 128514 it would be better if you cut it in half first since there is an egg inside which I failed to mix along with my serving. This is probably the most heavy meal among the dishes that we ordered.

I highly recommend this place to everyone out there who are only dating or having their anniversary or just meeting up with friends. I prefer to go at night so that it won't be that hot outside or if you are able to reserve a place inside then it would be better. And bring a lot of money since this restaurant is quite pricey but you won't be able to taste it anywhere else.
