This is one of the most advanced domestic airports in the Philippines. More spacious and more establishments :)

LAX. How some locals call it. Probably better if it's nearer Cagayan de Oro City. The old airport in Lumbia was closed and transferred to Laguindingan, apparently some 45 minute ride to Misamis Occidental, close enough to reach Iligan City. Not bad as they have provided Cafes and Restaurants near waiting areas. A lot to expect in the coming years as Location of this Airport has opened Cagayan and the rest of Northern and Southern Misamis eye for development.

Such an evolution! I grew up in CdO, and I fondly recall how small the airport used to be in Lumbia in uptown CdO. But now, things have changed for the following reasons:

1. The airport is now 45mins away from downtown CDO. Its actually no longer in CdO, but at a neighboring municipality of Laguindingan.

2. It is now 5x the size of the old airport. It has a huge tarmac that can accommodate 5 planes at a time! It too has a boarding bridge from the departure lounges to the plane. No need to walk on the tarmac to board the plane.

3. It now house restos and coffee shops

4. It has a smoking lounge, a pasalubong center, an islamic prayer room, and spa!

5. Night flights are possible now. At the old airport, last fly out is 4pm.

6. Transit buses are available from CdO to airport for only 199php. I usually ride Magnum bus from limketkai center.

Overall, the experience is waaaay better now :) 128077

The airport is quite new, but lacks chairs and lounges where passengers can sit and wait for their flights. They only have 1 restroom (small with only 3 cubicles available) at the pre-departure area, flush isn't working and lighting is a bit dim.

Reminder: please allow an hour or two before your schedule for the day to start as travel time from Laguindingan Airport to Cagayan De Pro city proper is at least an hour. Taxi fare is more less at P600. If you're traveling with friends (around 3-4) it is best if you ride metered taxi than avail the van service which is 199/person or coupon cars at P800.

Small and neat airport. About 1 hour away from Cagayan de Oro city. For commuters, best to take CAGATRANS vans. Tried and tested.

The new Laguindingan International Airport in Cagayan de Oro cater international flight. It has good facilities compare to the old airport in the CDO city. Average travel time to the city: 1 hour or less.

I was surprised to see how modernized the airport is. It is so much different now. I am so impressed with how much it has improved since I was last here. It's clean and spacious. It houses lots of shops and restaurants. The smoking area is past a coffee shop. Double plus points. It has lots of seats in the departure area. It is air-conditioned and the seats are still in good condition. My flight back to Manila was not delayed (it's a miracle) but I wouldn't mind waiting longer in this airport.

Our arrival for our Cagayan de Oro trip was a plain experience, we didn't have baggages so we just went ahead upon getting off the plane.

During departure, we came in just in the nick of time for last call baggage check-in. The staff who assisted us were accommodating. I think they should add more waiting area on their 1st floor lobby.

I like this airport.

I love how Laguindingan has lots of food choices. You can satisfy your coffee cravings and have a full breakfast meal while waiting. We even chanced upon Liz Uy the las time we flew out from here. Hehe. It's a very comfy airport compared to most....the only downside is it's distance from the center and the traffic. :)

For now the construction and development is still on going. Installation of run way lights, extension of run way and other development stuff are on the process.

Compared to our old airport, the new one is far better. It is well located near the sea compared to mountainous old airport so i can say it is a lot safer and picturesque when landing and taking off.

I cannot wait till the completion of our year old airport.

Much better than Lumbia but already starting to show some wear-and-tear. Hopefully they maintain it well. Security needs to be trained in overall people skills. Security questioned my carbon-fiber tripod as carry-on. They asked if I spoke Tagalog or Bisaya, I said English since I'm American born and never learned the language (although I keep trying). They reacted like, "Whooh.... Ingles!" Nice way to demean a fellow ethnic pinoy. Then the guy asked my nationality. American (and proud of it). If I was white I bet it wouldn't have been questioned. And does my tripod make a difference if it's owned by a Filipino or an American. By far the worst treatment I've ever had with ANY airport security and I deal with American TSA and post-911 security EVERYTIME I fly. I explained to the security guy that my carbon-fiber tripod was not on the unallowed list and that I brought it through this exact security check-point twice before. He insisted that it couldn't be carried on and said I should check it in but if the airline allows it then he'll let it go. So we go back down to the check-in counter and explain to them what happened at security. A manager looked at my tripod and said that it was OK to check in since it was a smaller tripod and not made of metal. So back to security and I relayed the message from the airline (PAL), he didn't want to believe it so the little sh*t dragged me back down to check-in to talk to the PAL counter. They told him it was OK and for good measure he wrote down the PAL counter girl's name in his "log book." Then we went back up through security again and he logged my name in his "log book." Really annoyed at this point, I sarcastically asked if he was adding my name to a "no fly" list. He replied, "no sir, but we have to log that you have an item that isn't approved." LMAO. Really!?! You are going THIS far with it?!? The whole 9?!? You lost jack@ss, I get to carry on my tripod and there isn't a damn thing you can do about it. His partner seemed to notice I was getting pissed off as he didn't bother to frisk me again once I was through the metal detector. Overall, this security team is a joke. Check the REAL threats instead of someone who really doesn't need his vacation spoiled by some wannabe Paul Blart/Eric Cartman love child, "Respek Mah Authoritah!"

This is one of the better domestic/local airports I've been to. It's located about an hour or so from Cagayan de Oro city, it's in between Iligan and CDO so it'll be nearer the other towns.
Check in was a breeze but a stiff terminal fee (php200). Waiting area was air conditioned with a few tv's to entertain passengers. There was a slasher film being shown when we were there 128514
There's also a Kenny Rogers and seattles best right at the terminal area so that's a plus.
One thing though, no night flights cos there are no runway lights yet and the highway is not lot well.

This place needs a counter for people who've checked in online. Because really, what's the point of checking in early online when you still have to line up?

And oh my gosh, SCREAMING CHILDREN. This isn't the airport's fault tho, more the parents' faults. Yeah, I'm looking at you, irresponsible parents! If your child is crying, you don't spank them or leave them on the floor crying or both! That's horrible parenting.

Also, not just for this airport but for all airports, airlines should rethink the whole "e-boarding pass" system. I mean, if you still have to line up and get a reprinted boarding pass, then what's the point of doing it online? You waste time and paper. It renders the issued e-boarding pass (complete with QR code) useless. I thought I'd finally make use of the "Passbook" app on my iPhone, but I never made use of it in the end. Tsk.

Clean but small airport. Arrivals area were a little crowded with only 2 conveyor belts for the luggages. Tight and cramped. However the departures area was a little more spacious. Though still a little too small for my liking. Good thing they have Seattle's Best and Kenny Roger's by the gates. The view is soooooo nice!!!!

I like the fact that it still looks new even if it has been operational for quite some time now. However, I find it such a hassle that you have to travel for at least 30mins before you reach the airport.

It's good that there are more shuttle options but I find LAX to be the most convenient since their drop off and pick up point in CdO is located in Centrio.

Their pre-departure area is a bit small compared to Davao's and Cebu's. It can get crowded at times. Food options are limited - Seattle's Best, Kenny Rogers and another coffee shop.

The pre-depature area offers a good view of the horizon.

Their CR is clean though which is a plus factor.

New and modern airport but lacking in facilities. There are no x-ray machines at the main airport entrance and inspection is done manually, which takes too much time and such a hassle.

There are also not enough lights along the runway so if skies are not clear chances are flights may be diverted and/or cancelled (both inbound & outbound). Already experienced having my flight cancelled because of this.

Limited cubicles in the toilets, thus long queues. No tissues!
