Two things about Laruan Atbp:

127922 NO WIFI cause duh, what are the board games for.... So please put your phone down and concentrate on beating your friends 128586 or just simply have fun

127922 Due to the number of new and unique categories of board games, the cafe actually has a GAME MASTER 🤓 - you can request for him, so that he can guide you and your friends on how to play the game.

The cafe was really nice, its a good place to bond and catch up. You can simply avail the 150/ per head consumable fee, in exchange for play all you can.

As for the food and drinks, we ordered Nachos, Fries, Dark Chocolate Milk Tea, Wintermelon Milk Tea, Beer and Mudshake. Place was really chill so it was okay to drink, food was so-so nothing really special. But I saw most of the customers, order rice meals. Maybe we can give that a try next time.

The place was crazy crowded when we went here. There's no chairs for us to sit while waiting, so my friend just gave her number and told them to just text her when there's already a vacant table for us. We decided to search along Maginhawa street for other restaurants/cafes because we already gave up on Laruan atbp. Cafe. We were about to enter a restaurant we found when my friend received a text that there was an available table for us, and so we went back there again. 128514

The place's a bit hot since it's full of people. We were seated upstairs and it was hotter up there 128514

Grabe lang yung service!! Super duper tagal as in. We played a lot of games already, pero yung food namin wala pa din. My friend called one of the servers and asked to follow up our orders because we had been waiting for it for like an hour and a half and sobrang gutom na kami 128553 PLUS ang hirap tawagin ng mga waiter/server. Poor poor service during that time talaga!

My friends' orders are already served while mine was still "on the process" according to one of the waiters, so I decided to just order what my friend had –pulled pork rice bowl. Pumayag naman sila, so mukhang di pa talaga naprepare yung order ko. I don't hate it, but it did not satisfy my appetite. I left the place craving for more food..

Guess I won't be going back...unless someone invites me here maybe I'll gjve it a second shot.

I had been wanting to try this for being too mainstream, but to be fair it looks fun and it is fun, with good company, you can last until closing time. 128513

First, apologies for not taking any pictures apart from the card against Filipinos which I found so funny.

We were warned that there is a long line of people so we decided to reserved a day before. They open around 2pm. 128522

Let me start with the food: I super love the Oreo shake they serve! I don't really like drinks which are too sweet so I liked their shake. At sip, I can taste the oreo bits and can even bite sime of the tiny tineee bits, and for roughly 200 pesos you'll have generous serving of one. Their pulled pork is good too, tenderly served with rice. The wings in sweet and honey sauce are good too, no need for rice. 128076🏼 another must try is their Mozarella sticks, too thick to be sticks and yummy.

The main event: the games. They have so much games on shelf. The Monopoly game, for you to be able to play with it you have to be there or reserve just when the store opens so no one will snatch it away from you. Hehe we weren't able to play that. We played Exploding kittens, jenga and cards against filipinos. We had others but I lost agad, so let's not go into those 128514

Exploding kittens game is so much fun but when the players are down to 2, it becomes a long game for everyone else haha. The cards against filipinos (coined from humanity) is funnier maybe because it has the filipino humor on it. Also, we found this dog who bites you. It's an easy game but our friend screams while playing it so we thanked her for making that game so much fun.128541

We spent 4hrs unknowingly, super fun for friends bonding , having arguments on who really won or who is cheating 128514

Just remember it's not a place for some talk, the noise from the people shouting, laughing and enjoying the game is kind of part of the fun.

The metro has been booming suddenly with these kinds of restaurants which is kinda cool for me. Something new to try than the normal cafes/restaurants. Another reason to hang out for hours and hours pero atleast you get to forget about your phone. Haha.

We arrived at 8:30 on a sunday evening. The place was kinda full but all tables wasn't occupied. We had seats immediately. We we're "briefed" by one of the game masters that we should order 150php each or total of 750php for all the 5 of us to avail the unlimited playing time. After placing the order we were approached by another game master and asked us what game do we prefer and he suggested that we could try the "nakakasira mg friendship" themed games. He picked a game and thoroughly explained it to us. He was really in to explaining which was kinda fun. Hahaha.

After a few minutes, outr orders started arriving but the carbonara took the longest time. Nakalaro na kami ng The Resistance and Jenga but my food wasn't served yet. After almost 25 - 30 minutes I got my food and immediately proceeded in eating it. Haha. The Dynamite and Carbonara was good! Buti nalang lol

Place was awesome. We enjoyed it. It's a bit noisy of course since everyone is playing different kinds of games but I recommend it as a fun way to bond. Lakas maka-90's kid since uso board games non. They also have beer for the mature ones but kids at heart 128518

My go-to place! Mejo maliit lang yung place but staff's are so nice. Very accomodating! :) esp Onin! You can play with their board games or card games. They can also teach you how to play one if hindi mo alam. Sometimes, customer's din nila ang mag approach sayo. Hehee. Their shakes are good. Cheese sticks are really nice! So as their Buffalo wings. Carbonaro is okay. Not sure if im just sick yhe time I had it bec it tasted a little weird. Hehee.

Loved my experience here. It's my first time on a resto with a theme like this. For those who want to relieve stress and hunger this is the place to go for. They have wide varieties of games and a wide selection of food that you can enjoy while playing. Loved their Wintermelon Milktea. It balances the sweetness of the Orea Cheesecake. Their service is also great especially their game masters that are always attentive to the questions of the customers.

Tried Laruan Atbp at Maginhawa St. for lunch and it was disheartening. Yes the interior looked great as well as the multitude of games available. It certainly lived up to its name "Laruan" which means "toys or plaything". The games to be played certainly brings novelty to the dining experience, play a game while waiting for your order, and after 1 hr of playing games like jenga, monopoly, taboo etc, still you have no food to eat. Yes, food service is really slow and the games that seem innocent acts as a distraction. Play so you don't notice the food being served so late. Lets move to the food items... There's quite a selection from sandwiches to pasta, rice, appetizers and finger food. Its uneventful and plain, nothing spectacular with their food. It tastes bland and the cream sauce for the carbonara tasted the same sauce that of the cajun chicken and pulled pork. Cajun chicken is spicy and has a reddish tinge not chicken with cream sauce and bell peppers. The only saving grace as far as the food is concerned are the finger food and their confectionary drinks. This place could improve so so much. Faster food service, improve the menu or the taste of the food. A restaurant is still a restaurant. Its for food and being able to play board games and what not while dining is just an added bonus. Invest in food if its a restaurant not in the games and other distractions, otherwise just be a game place or a playground.

It was a fun-filled experience. The place was full of laughter and joy, kids-at-heart will never get bore, all those games boards at the shelves are a new game to explore, kudos to their game masters for teaching us to every game we pick.
Only 150php for a whole day of fun, never ever forget to bring your squad along to play with, remember it is never fun to be alone. 128521
Place and interior was great, doesn't look crowded even when there are lots of people enjoying each others company.
Order some finger foods while playing, believe me it's a must. Their dynamites are to die for, definitely love it. 128525
Played:
◾ Cluedo
◾ Love Letters
◾ Taboo
◾ Wits and Wagers
◾ Cards against humanity
◾ Monkey-on-a-stick (if thats what they call it)

Fun place to bring your friends! Its location means it's usually filled with a college to yuppy crowd, so it can get EXTREMELY noisy. The food is meh; in my opinion, eat before going. But the desserts and drinks are great, especially the cheesecakes. The game selection is pretty good; they also sell some. The GMs are also very helpful, and will moderate or teach your group how to play games. A note though; like anywhere in Maginhawa, parking is terrible and is all up to luck.

After dinner, since tomorrow is a holiday, we decided to hang out with the kids at Laruan. It was small, a bit noisy and pretty crowded but I guess that was a good sign. We had to wait a few minutes for a table. A lot of games were available to choose from and there were people who can explain how to play should you need assistance. Each person has a consumable of p150 to be avke to stay and play. The kids had fun.. it was a welcome respite from gadgets at least for a few hours. The kids had milk tea which were ok... Us parents had hazelnut coffee served in individual small coffee presses. It was a bit mild than what we were used to but it was fine. We tried their blooming onion and cheesecake factory cheesecake. Food is just okay, but I guess its the fun and company one comes over for...and maybe I would come back if just for that.

Pulled Pork Rice Bowl: It was okay. I just thought there was something missing about it and I still couldn't figure it out until now. 128569

Again, Hanabi (card game) was the star of the day.

After doing some board game place research here on looloo, I decided to visit one that made it to my list... Because it's the nearest one on my list lol.

I think Laruan Atbp. Cafe just opened last month so there are only a few reviews here on looloo but because of the good and consistent reviews they have been getting, I decided to go here instead (there's another board game place nearby that's been getting a lot of buzz but food daw is meh and expensive so pass). Thanks, Isha S for sharing!

The place is located on the first floor of a building but thanks to their big sign outside, it wasn't very hard to find. Parking can also be a problem since well... It's Maginhawa. 128513 But luckily, some dude left just when we were about to backup and look for parking on the opposite side of the building. It was so great stepping in their place! They had very warm and bright lights, music wasn't too loud and their server immediately greeted us and gave us their menu.

I enjoyed looking at their menu. They offer good stuff. Rice bowls, snacks, sandwiches, pasta, coffee, tea. We got their Monte Cristo Supreme (PHP 175), which had chunks of homemade smoked ham on white bread with crispy onions, tomatoes, lettuce and melted cheese and a plate of their French fries (PHP 145). Both were really good. We thought the French fries would suck and that they wouldn't be generous with their serving but they were thick cut fries. I'd say it was worth 145. The sandwich was nice (NICE TALAGA??) too. Sulit! I also tried their passion fruit tea which, again was great. 128563

We got to play Sorry!, Patchwork, the Magic Labyrinth and Exploding Kittens. We tried to understand Pandemic but since it's actually a teamwork type of board game... Next time na lang. 128514 All of the games were in good shape and clean. Except probably the cards for Exploding Kittens. Each card was wrapped in plastic which made it hard to shuffle or draw a card without grabbing another one and spoiling the fun. Felt kinda oily too. I suggest you bring a big bottle of alcohol when going to these kinds of places lol.

I really loved Laruan. Great service, great food, great games (probably not as many as Ludo's collection though), great place. Ok I just remembered how I had to ask for a key to the restroom because they don't really have one exclusively for their place. If you're maarte with toilets, I suggest you hold your pee in. Huhu I didn't like the common restroom. 128560

With the increasing popularity of board game cafes, more and more have been popping up everywhere and I've become hooked, seemingly trying a new one out every chance I can get. 128517

This time, a friend and I trekked happily to one of the newest board game cafes in the Maginhawa area, Laruan atbp. The place is located inside a building with other establishments. No bathroom inside, you have to go out to use the building's bathroom. There's a counter up front, tables and chairs spread on the ground floor and a spiral staircase leading up to a small second floor area with about 4 low tables, carpets and cushions. Pretty light bulbs hang on the ceiling. Board games are placed on shelves on the ground floor. You can be seated, given a menu and a waiter can get your order.

They offer snacks, rice bowls, sandwiches, pastas and desserts (lava cake and cheesecake only) along with hot and cold drinks. Any meal item from the menu can set you about anywhere between 125 to 185 php. I settled on their Monte Cristo Supreme (165 php) while my friend had their Vegetarian Sandwich (165 php). We also both decided to split an order of their lava cake (205 php).

I loved my sandwich! It was served with coleslaw and chips. The homemade smoked ham was the star - thick and flavorful, nestled between onions, tomatoes, lettuce, melted cheese and slices of toasted white bread. 128076 My friend's sandwich came with red and green bell peppers, onions, mushrooms and cheese (not sure if this was vegetarian cheese but ???). This one was okay. As for the lava cake, it was served with two scoops of vanilla ice cream and drizzled with chocolate sauce. Yummy, but weird since it was served first before the sandwiches when we told them we'd have it later.

Service was okay. There are game masters that can help you pick out games and help you with the rules plus entertain your questions about any of the board games. One tip though, if you're gonna visit a board game cafe, it's really a lot better if you come in a group. There are two player games and some that can be adapted to be two player games but they don't seem to be as fun as when played in a group haha. 128514128514
