I've always loved Locavore because of how creative their Filipino dishes were -- from Sizzling Sinigang to Ginataang Kaldereta to Gising Gising... I can go on and on with my list bec there's just too many remarkable ones that landed on my faves.

But yesterday, I got rid of all my faves and decided to give their new dish a try - Garlic Buttered Sugpo. I don't know how long it's been since it was added on the menu but I blame myself for only discovering it now. It's a bit pricey because you only get 6pcs of sugpo for P620 but it's still something worth to try. It's pricey but sulit at the same time. For the price, you get to have FRESHLY COOKED SUGPO that's really delicious and tasty!!! Just a warning though, this dish goes well with rice so if you are on a diet, save it for later because this will keep you wanting more. ;)

We also ordered their Singkamas, Magga at Bagoong (P165) as a starter. It's the expensive version of the usual Singkamas-Mangga street food often found outside schools or markets. What stood out tho was the different condiments - Bagoong, Patis-asukal and Chilismoked Rock Salt. I did not know that Patis-asukal goes really well with Green Mango!!! It made the experience different from the usual!

I love Locavore in all aspects, from interior to food, they're always exceeding my expectations. ♥️

When you like it out-of-the-box, Locavore offers a menu that innovated the filipino cuisine. It was a lunch time on a Sunday and I just got off from Privato Hotel in Shaw. I was thinking I deserve something delectable to eat. Headed to Brixton St. in Kapitolyo for a fusion filipino meal.

Kicked-off with a plate of Ensaladang Pakwan garnished with Kesong Puti, Arugula, Olives and vinaigrette of patis. One of kind pinoy salad for P260. The freshness of watermelon resonates a taste of summer.

One main course is enough for me and I go for the best-selling Sizzling Sinigang priced at P495. It basically deconstructed the classic pinoy dish. The savour is just right. Short ribs is tender but oily. I still like my Sinigang with soup but it’s worth a try.

Other interesting meals thar comes with a twist are fried oyster sisig, kimchinigang, sugpo con mayonesa and thrice-cooked pata.

Observed that the servers seems distracted and not smiling. Which is pretty understood, who’s happy to work on a Sunday anyway.

PLACE:

Place is okay. Nothing special tho.

FOOD:

Sizzling Sinigang: This is sooo DIVINE. I super love this dish. There's a generous serving of super tender meat. You can really taste the sinigang in its sauce. Veggies are cooked perfectly as well. Super love their cherry tomatoes.

Mac's Fried Chicken: This is not your ordinary fried chicken. Chicken is crispy and super succulent inside. Love its sauce as well. Not a fan of its mayo tho. (Well, I don't like mayo lang talaga haha)

PRICE:

Quite pricey but you'll surely get the value for your money.

SERVICE:

Friendly and accommodating staff.

VERDICT:

Did I enjoy it? - Yes
Will I recommend it? - Yes
Will I come back? Definitely Yes

I sent this feedback to Locavore's official FB account last Aug 16 and unfortunately, I didn't receive any feedback nor confirmation:

--------------
Hi. Please allow me to share an unpleasant experience at your Pasig branch yesterday (Aug 15). We are a group of about 16 persons who decided to have lunch at your Pasig branch on Aug. 15. Towards the middle of our meal, we decided to add an order of your Ginataang Kalabasa. Most of us, of course, got a bit of our share immediately since we were already towards the end of our meal. I was saving the shrimp on my plate and when I finally decided to eat it and as I flipped it to remove the remaining skin on it, I found a strand of hair. We immediately reported it to the servers. They sent the manage to our table to have a look at my plate. After which, we were asked by the manager if we want the Ginataang Kalabasa replaced. We declined the offer since we were almost done eating. They decided to discuss behind the bar and informed us that they will get back to us on how they intend to compensate us for the unpleasant experience. After a few minutes we had to bill out already and head back to Makati so we decided to ask the manager to just exclude the Ginataang Kalabasa from our bill and here were the series of excuses we received:

- the restaurant didn't want to exclude it from our bill and just wants to offer us dessert (we didn't intend to have dessert and most of us were full already so the offer wasn't really something beneficial to us or was deemed as a compensation for the inconvenience)
- when we asked why the restaurant was willing to replace it but NOT exclude from the bill, the manager exclaimed that they intended to replace just the portion where we found the hair (which our group found appalling)
- he also pointed out that we finished the plate of Ginataang Kalabasa already that's why they can't remove it from the bill anymore
- the manager even insinuated that all the people in your kitchen wear hairnets so it's impossible for the hair to have come from the kitchen (at this point the excuses were becoming unacceptable already)
- the people in the kitchen, according to him, are all males and the hair strand don't match that of a man's hair (a very lame excuse)
- he also mentioned that the employees will be charged for it if it will be excluded from our bill (which for a while made us think twice to just let it go for the sake of the employees but the series of unacceptable excuses prevented us from doing so)

Just for the record, our group didn't create any scene in the restaurant and just kept the conversation within our table. The indoor of the restaurant was full at that time btw.

I just wanted to share this to your management and hopefully it would be helpful to train your staffs to handle these kinds of incidents better. I don't solely blame the manager on this. In the first place, the hair may have not come from him. Also, he might have not received proper training for such coupled with the fear of him or his colleagues being charged for something that most of them didn't have anything to do with.

I hope you'll treat this seriously and that no other customer would experience the same thing.

It was due to a hype and total curiosity that we decided to dine at Locavore on Sunday noon after church. I had some expectations and I felt enthusiastic about eating here because I have seen Locavore on television as well as on my Instagram feed most of the time. Unfortunately, my experience was disappointing.

This place is known for the twists they do for classic Filipino food. The interior design is industrial and when we went there, only the open area was allowed for dining since there was a private party inside. It was raining at that time so it felt cool but the ventilation was not really that good. The restaurant has a good amount of staff who were easy to call whenever you would ask for something. The downside: they served us the wrong dish, twice.

Here are the things that we ordered:

Fresh Lumpia. Tinapa, kesong puti, tomato ensalada, salted egg, lettuce. I liked how this dish was plated as well as the dip. The dip tastes like yema but with a spicy after taste. The fresh lumpia itself tastes average.

Kare-Kare Wings. 6 pieces wings, kare kare glaze, buttermilk ranch dressing, singkamas, mangga, bagoong. At first, we thought that there were only 3 pieces when we counted them; the wings were too small and were clumped together so we ended up counting them as one. Does not taste like kare kare to me.

Roasted Garlic Organic White Rice (3 orders). It's a plus that they are serving organic rice; but there was nothing special about it. Tastes average.

Steamed Organic Brown Rice. I had to ask the waiter if this was really their "brown" rice.

Their Best Sellers:

Sizzling Sinigang. Beef short ribs, sauteed french beans, sampaloc gravy, garlic confit. For a sizzling dish, it tastes good; but to call it sinigang is another thing. Yes this place is known for the twists that they do to Filipino dishes but I no longer find it near sinigang. Too much sitaw and garlic, no kangkong, and the sampaloc gravy needs to be more sour. It tastes salty.

Lechon Oyster Sisig. This one is good though it tastes mostly of lechon and the gravy. The oyster is difficult to notice.

In terms of the price, ingredients used, and amount of serving, the meals are just not price-worthy. Not to mention the ambiance of the place. We were not able to eat at least half of every dish that we ordered because we did not really enjoy it. We ended up asking the waiter to just pack it for take-out and then we opted to dine at another restaurant in Kapitolyo.

Got a impromptu get together with my 2 close friends here in Locavore the other week. One of them studied and work in Korea for a longtime thats why we decided to go for locavore. On a weekday dinner lucky we were able to immediately grab a table. There was no long queue on our visit unlike before.

For the food we ordered two dishes the Sizzling Sinigang and Mayonesa con sugpo. We love them both but the Sizzling Sinigang was the winner. The unique flavor of a deconstructed sinigang was sure hit for a balik bayan. The meat was very tender and the french beans was crunchy delicious. Mayonesa con sugpo was equally good but an order of it for the 3 of us got an umay effect. Still it was delicious maybe because of the mayo it tends to be nakakaumay. Overall we enjoyed the food and service on this visit.128522

Filipino food interpreted in French Techniques. Pwede! Good reviews and drooling over reviews. I am excited!

The place has alfresco and airconditioned dining area. Interiors are hip and simple, accents in gray & black , metal all over, wooden tables. At night, looks like it would be a nice place to hangout. Lots of alcohol!

For appetizer:
11088️salted egg gabi chips- literally tasted like salted egg puree. So good!

11088️kinilaw tanigue- cubed tanigue, served in a jar. Mixture consists of cane vinegar, shallots, red bell pepper, spring onion, and ginger. I can't argue with this, I am a kinilaw fan! Serving looks small yet its flavorful, enough for 7 pax.

Main course:
11088️sizzling sinigang- superb! Sampaloc gravy is something I can't imagine. A very creative way of reinventing an all time Filipino favorite. It has beef short ribs, sauteed french beans.
11088️lechon oyster sisig- rice intensive of all! Flavorful in taste, generous serving.
11088️mac's boneless fried chicken- a house special boneless chicken. Enjoyed munching of yummy meat without a hassle.
11088️sugpo con mayonesa - a personal favorite of mine! It has jumbo black tiger prawns, aligue, garlic, butter and japanese mayonnaise.

We also another sugpo dish (i forgot the name), it has sauce and cherry tomatoes. Its also good since its sugpo!

Dessert:
11088️turon con leche
11088️halo halo
11088️sizzling pandesal pudding

Verdict: i love everything that I ate! I highly recommend the sizzling sinigang, sugpo con mayonesa, and sizzling lechon oyster sisig! The 2 appetizers are just so yummy too. Excellent service! This is the first time that Servers transfer dishes, so their customers need not to pass the dishes. Also, they are extra attentive on what we need. Pricing is just okay128522

Followede after dinner to my friend and her husband's despedida.

They have a promo for San Mig and Brew Kettle from 9pm-12mn, Sunday to Thursday which is buy 1 take 1. A bit expensive for local beers during regular hours.

We weren't able to try out their dishes, will go back for it next time.

Fusion is not new to some, Locavore however brings local delicacies with so much hype and excitement. I've been here and so late i just discovered the place last year. It was only then introduced to me by somebody who apparently made a reservation that night and was amused of everything of what exactly is on the menu. The first time though, was not remarkable since we only ordered appetizers but the second chance was a blast since i was the one to treat my colleagues that night as i have mentioned to them that the restaurant is a must try in Kapitolyo. Ordered Sizzling Sinigang, Mayonesa, Lechon Belly. The place is quite posh in a way the crowd blends, quite intimidating on our part, Still we just claimed the night as if we belonged. The food was served one by one, sizzled, smoked and smelled differently you can no longer wait to try. Mayonesa is to die for, with prawns so large and the sauce was damn prepared with so much reasons to drizzle on your rice. Sizzling Sinigang was a fusion you will never expect. And lastly, Lechon Belly will surely forget its cholesterol content once you heard its crunchy bite. The experience was indeed a blast as we ended up full and that we only spent the remaining time tackling out rumors in the office. Though the price is quite not affordable, only dictates the quality and servings of it. The place for your loved ones and an ideal treat for those who want fusion dishes.

My parents are the hardest to please when it comes to eating out. The food must not only be good, but also cheap. So when we took them out for a post-New Year's dinner, we figured out that they would love Locavore.

Locavore is anything but cheap, so we just ordered for them without showing them the menu (and prices). 128514 And they loved it! Even if they saw our bill afterwards hahaha. So glad that we also arrived before 6, because reservations were full and there was already a line forming outside.

We ordered the following:
Kare Kare Wings - my sister ordered this. It was very flavorful, and there was no denying the nutty, Kare Kare taste. I think that it could even beat the nuttiness of other "real" Kare Kare dishes. The bagoong was good, but the buttermilk ranch dressing did nothing for me. Although the dish was yummy, it was overshadowed by our other orders.

Sugpo con Mayonesa - this is one of their priciest dishes in the menu, but it was worth it. The shrimps were HUGE. We had a hard time finishing it. The dish was super garlicky and savory, it was just heaven. The only downside to this dish was that it was swimming in oil.

Sizzling Sinigang - My favorite dish of the night. 100841008410084 This is a must try! The sinigang gravy/sauce was so mouthwatering, that you'll order lots of extra rice for this one. The beef was tender, you could just slice it with a fork and a spoon. The veggies were cooked well. I would eat this everyday if I could. 128546 The servings were also huge, we had it for takeout.

Oyster Sisig - this was okay, you could really taste the oysters, but you could skip it. The dish could be a bit cloying after.

Locavore truly deserves to be one of the top.and highly-rated restaurants in Manila. 128523

Finally having hearing rave review about Locavore I've finally got to try it out. As early as around 5pm we were already there for dinner but to my surprise the place was already packed with people. We were able to grab a table outside. The place got the industrial setup. A container van kind of feel. Nothing fancy. The setup reminds me of Central BBQ or Tides.

Locavore is well known for their take on some Filipino comfort food and here are the things we tried out:
127842Singkamas/Mangga at Bagoong (175PHP) - this was requested by my brother and I find it silly to order it at that price. Nothing special just the typical mangga't singkamas sold by the street vendor.
128031Kinilaw Platter (370PHP) - 3kinds of kinilaw served in a mason jar. We choose the fresh shrimp, tuna and tanigue. I love the mixture of flavor of their kinilaw. I just find the shrimp a bit malansa.
128293Fried Oyster Sisig (370PHP) - Wow this one is good. Love the crunchiness while retaining the softness of the oyster at its core. A must try.
127858Sizzling Sinigang (520PHP) - one of their best seller. A sinigang version of bulalo steak. beef short ribs with gravy and french beans. The gravy was infused sampaloc flavor giving it a sinigang flavor. Not bad but I prefer bulalo steak. Its just a bit weird for a gravy to have an asim taste. Hehe.
🦐Sugpo con Mayonesa ((720PHP) - this one is really expensive but tasted really good. the creamyness with the oiliness of it. The prawn was superb! My favorite in our order.

Overall Locavore really deliver in bringing good flavor and twist to tried and tested filipino food. A bit pricey but worth it from time to time.

This isnt really 2/5. But if half value is allowed, I'd probably give a 2.5. :) Service was a huge let down for me in this restaurant...

We were two when we visited the establishment but we had huge bags with us (coming from a flight). When we came in, no one ushered us in. Then, when we were able to have someone's attention, he had this disapproving look on this two people with huge pieces of luggage. Upon speaking with him, we asked for a larger dining area/table (because obviously, only one table was occupied in the restaurant that time and we had luggage with us). This Mr. rude guy refused, and advised that the restaurant was fully booked so he asked us to sit by the middle 2 seater table.
In the end, after our meal and after 1.5 hours in the restaurant, no one sat at the bigger table we earlier requested. Please note that we visited around 4 pm on a weekday to have super late lunch and thus, there really were not much guests around. Also, Mr. Rude guy was consistently annoying throughout the service that we purposely sought attention from other service crew members. I should note that the other guys are nice and more polite.
Food was ok. I had high hopes on sizzling sinigang. The twist was pretty cool however it seemed a tad too salty for a sinigang. I liked lechon with oyster sisig though. But for the taste and amount of serving, I believe the meals were overpriced.

Here's our promised next visit.

This time, we tried their best selling- lechon and oyster sisig and one that is new to their growing master recipes- bacon bbq skewers. Awe I say. It was incredibly delicious, with the right blend of each flavours in one. I was really amazed on how they came up on a filipino delicacies with a twist.

After dining, we went for a bottle of brew kettle to chill out the scrumptious night. Well spent dinner once again. Definitely will be coming back for more. Surprise us on our next visit, Locavore.
