Crazy Makati traffic got us hungry! And since Cash & Carry was the closest establishment we decided to take a detour and stop over to let the volume of cars die down.

We were not sure what to eat at first but once we saw the Luk Yuen sign at the front we knew what we wanted to eat.

I remember Luk Yuen as a small dimsum and dumpling place in the malls during the 90s. And it's awesome to see that they evolved into the full Chinese restaurant that they are now.

Tonight we decided to try the Hakaw, Kinchay Lumpia, Polonchay with Garlic, and Shredded Pork noodle.

Once the server got our orders we were told that it would take them 15-20 minutes to serve the food, which is fine. So it was a pleasant surprise that 5 minutes later most of the dishes were already being served.

First, the Hakaw. As with most good Hakaws, at least in my experience, goes it's imperative not to overlook it so that the skin doesn't sag or, worse, disintegrate once it's being handled. Plus points that they actually used a huge piece of shrimp in this one! Very yummy.

Next came the Kinchay Lumpia. I'm familiar with kinchay being utilized as a dumpling or additional herb for dishes but never lumpia. So this one got me very curious. Was it good? Not good, but deliciously awesome! The medley with shiitake mushrooms and little bits of chicken shoots this spring roll concoction to the top of my list. It is damn good. So good that I decided to hoard all of it and just order another for my partner! 128523 it's a must try!

The Polonchay doesn't look as appetizing but it's damn good too. Not doused with oil and salt. Cooked well that the Chinese Spinach bits still have a certain bite to them. This will go well with heavy set dishes as the flavor really cuts through oily or fatty food.

The last dish, Shredded Pork noodle, was sad though. Couldn't tell what they were trying to make out of it. Couldn't make the pork even if I could see it. The base used seemed to have a more fishy taste. Avoid this if you can and order the Beef with Flat noodle instead of the seafood noodle.

All in all 3 out of 4 dishes were spectacular which makes it very good for me. When in Cash & Carry you should definitely give them a visit.

This is as close as I can get to eating Chinese food 128517 The chef at this branch is zhende Zhongguoren (native Chinese), so my friends who were also in China before, would dine here often. 9786

It's not Beijing food but it's still Chinese food! 128513

Ordered their chicken strip noodles. Noodles are supposed to be crisp and al dente. It seems they think otherwise and served "mashed" noodles instead. If you can imagine mashed potatoes vs broiled potatoes, you get the idea. Their noodles used to be OK a few years back. Today was just really bad. Just ate the chicken and vegetables and left the noodles.

Had this for lunch today.. Wanton noodle and siomai. Forgot how good this tasted and it certainly brought back days of dining in at glorietta with family during Sundays before it got sadly blasted and closed for good. Anyway, the noodles are a little different already but the wanton tasted like how I'v always enjoyed them. Ordered some taro puff too but returned and canceled it bec it had a foul taste. The staff was terrible and didn't bother to explain or whatsoever but yeah whatever, like I always say, I'm a very patient customer 128513128513128513. Loved my siomai too, glad to know they have good ones there... 97869786

Poor service because of several reasons:

1. No one is stationed in front of the restaurant - we had to look for the manager (who is near the kitchen) to help us get seated

2. The water tasted funny

3. They do not follow up on your additional request(s) - I asked for chopsticks and waited for 15 minutes until I finally decided to eat the dumplings with a spoon and fork

4. It's too cramped inside - you literally can hear everyone talking - and I mean EVERYONE.

The food tastes great, but I am not coming back to this branch.

My heart is torn between Luk Yuen and North Park's Congee. 128148

Both Congee are good and has their own merits. Madami na kami pinagsamahan ni Luk Yuen mga ilang years na din.. pero minsan naiisip ko pa din si North Park. Paano nga ba? 9996128513

Halo-Halo Congee - all-time favorite. Dito ako natuto kumain ng atay. 128077

This was last Saturday. We were expecting a good dinner but to our dismay 128542

We ordered beef wanton noodles and jumbo HK siopao. Our orders arrived longer than expected and it was actually given to the table beside us (which got us wondered because that customer just arrived). My companion told the waiter about this, he did acknowledged he got it mixed up but didn't say sorry and just said we had the same order (except for the siopao). So the waiter just gave us the siopao and we waited again for our noodle soup. The noodles did arrive after 5min and of course, it looked like it was rushed.

Disappointed already, upon eating the siopao, we found a strand of hair. We reported it to the waitress, and she said, 'ano pong gusto niyong gawin/ mangyari ma'am?' without sounding even a bit apologetic. We asked it to be replaced instead but it took time too to arrive so we just cancelled it and paid for the noodles.

I've eaten at this branch for quite a number of times but just experienced this kind of service that night. Really really disappointed - not just on the service but more on how their servers handled these kind of situations. Hope they improve on these.

Our all time fave:

R5 fried prawn dumplings with yang chow
R11 beef tendon (upgraded rice to yang chow for P30)
Both comes with iced tea (similar taste to wendys signature iced tea).
The magical appetizer - chips! 128513

Perfect amount of serving. Reasonablably priced. 128077

Their Hakaw (Steamed Shrimp Dumplings) (when not overcooked and properly served) is really great and at par with some of the most famous Dimsum places around. The difference is this one is cheaper. 9996128513

We were in Cash and Carry and tried Luk Yuen for lunch. We ordered Yang Chow (190), Sweet and Sour Pork (320) and Taro Puff - gabi with minced pork (110). Food is ordinary and we found it expensive for its quality.

Food is very consistent with taste. Aside from the long wait. More stallers (chips) please.
