Haven't been here in years! And they re-opened with a (thankfully) updated look many months ago. I mean buti na lang! I purposely have not dined in any of their other branches bec it just looked sad and magulo. Their new branch is brighter, more pleasing to the eyes, high ceiling, with a second floor too. Space in between tables! I was able to park the stroller by our booth and there was still a lot of space for diners to walk by us.

We used to go here a lot for a quick, cheap family eat when I was a kid. Nothing fancy. But still an ok place to get your Chinese fix once in awhile. It used to be curbside on the ground floor, very near Venezia, the sosyal hotspot I was too young to visit.

With my toddler only ordering their wanton noodle soup 120.00 for herself, I got my default order of taro puff 128.00 and shrimp balls 165.00, plus an extra helping of Shanghai buns 115.00, all three pieces per order. Takaw tikim for dinner, but I brought most back home. Di ko kaya maubos.

Taro puff is smaller than before. Sad. Dipped in a spicy mix of soy sauce, calamansi and chili oil, it's still my forever favorite. Shrimp balls were a bit tough, or maybe just super siksik. This one is best dipped in their sweet and sour sauce. The Shanghai buns are a kind a siopao that has meat and veggies inside. I liked it too! Didn't put any sauce on this, I usually don't with siopao. I was very satisfied with what I ordered.

Complimentary wonton chips was served (yay!) and they did not hold back when I asked for a refill.

Service is still the same old school, Chinese restaurant level service.

We always pass by this place and see that it's always full, despite being spacious and having a second floor. I am actually running out of affordable Chinese restaurants around my area so I decided to finally try this place. I arrived the restaurant around 11:15am and the place was not full, perhaps because it's still a bit early for lunch. I was led to my seat and was given the menu. After around 5 minutes, I've finally decided on my order:
1 beef brisket wanton noodles (small - P145)
1 hakaw (4 pcs P170)
1 pork siomai (4 pcs, P145)
1 cup yangchow rice (P90)
1 shrimp balls (3 pcs P165)

I actually asked the waiter on whether I should get the fried shrimp dumpling or the shrimp balls, and he told me to try the latter, and because of this I'd like to thank him since the shrimp balls were good 128522

After ordering I was given some sort of chips to snack on, and some tea while waiting for my order. After around 10 minutes my order started to come one at a time, although the waiter informed me earlier on that it'll take 15-20minutes. So kudos to them for the fast service!

The noodles: smaller than what I thought. Yes, I chose the "small" (instead of regular) but the size of the serving didn't seem enough. Let's just say that the serving of this dish is just half of what other restaurants offer, for the same price. Also, the dish was a bit bland for my taste. Usually when I order beef brisket noodles, the dish is more salty, and you'll notice from the first taste that the dish had beef even without looking at it. But this one is different. It seemed like it's just a normal wanton noodle topped with beef. It was okay, but the name of the dish didn't show.

The hakaw and pork siomai: These were flavorful, however I'm not sure if they were just re-steamed or under steamed. I know these are cooked, but they were a bit tough. Although when these 2 were served they weren't really too hot, so maybe that's the problem.

The yangchow rice was delicious. I didn't really had a lot of it but the first few bites were good.

The shrimp balls were my favorite! They taste like the typical shrimp balls but out of everything I ate, I think I liked this the most since I didn't see any flaw from it.

And oh, thanks for the free congee, Luk Yuen and happy 35th anniversary! They have this promo from July 3-10 wherein you'll be given a free dish if you order P500 worth of food (single receipt). The choices for the free dish are the shanghai buns, the wanton noodle (small) and the congee with century egg. And my total bill was P715 128522

Overall, the highlight of my visit was really the service of the staff (and oh, they do not have service charge). Everything was fast and the waiters were very friendly and attentive. The food was okay, some were a bit pricey for the portions. The ambiance of the place is good. It's well lit and clean, despite being a casual dining Chinese restaurant. (Some casual dining Chinese restaurants are messy).

This is my family's go-to Chinese restaurant since I was a kid. Since my dad is a long-time Chinese food lover, this has also been his go-to resto since the 1980s.

VERDICT: This is the closest thing to what I have tasted in Xiamen :)

Okay for the price. The halo-halo congee was bland. The beef brisket with wonton noodles was okay. The hakaw was good. But would probably look for another Chinese resto with better tasting congee and noodle soup.

David's WAS our go-to for dimsum nearby but their service and dimsum quality has gone down. ENTER Luk yuen. It's a rather far walk compared to greenbelt but food is worth your money. It was around 12 when we got there and since we were only two it was easy to seat us. The place started getting full.

We ordered the following:
-Taro puff
- Hakaw
- Siomai
-Yang chow fried rice (something i was craving for)
- rice topping for my colleague (forgot what it was)

The food is simple and fast, too. If you want to get your usual Chinese fare, this is worth the walk and your money. It's good to go back BUT what's more sinful is getting tempted to walk around the mall and shop.

Luk yuen. When I was a child, we used to dine at their greenhills branch. I would either order their noodle soup or congee.but ever since, I would find their serving small for their price.

My daughter in the picture ordered their Wanton noodle and it tasted with the right amount of saltines and flavor.

We also ordered their ala carte meals such as

Sizzling beef-was ok. Have lot of comparison with other Chinese Restos that was better

Golden Chicken - pwede na. Too expensive

King dao noodle and Seafood noodle- noodles were served in the right firmness and their ingredients were well complemented

For our order of more than P1000, we got a free fish fillet tausi. It was surprisingly crispy. Since d sauce was not enough to make d fish soggy.

I would recommend this resto if you are interested to eat noodle soups which is their specialty.

I used to eat Luk Yuen branch in Cash & Cash because my office is few blocks away from there but this time, we're gonna try the one in Glorietta.

The verdict:

I wonder if Jade Garden Resto has something to do with Luk Yuen because it seems like they're on the same place? Well moving on...
I was happy that despite the busy hour, staff are attentive to give us seats while waiting for vacant table since we're a group of 11. It was a family dinner and my dad wants to eat in a Chinese Restaurant.

The food we ordered are the following:

Chicken and Corn Soup, Steamed Dimsum like Hakaw Shrimp Dumplings, Pork Siomai Of course! And Beef with Broccoli, Sweet & Sour Pork, Deep Fried Cuttle Fish, and Braised-beancurd with Mushroom, Stir Fried Udon with Beef. Of course Yang chow Fried Rice to complete our meal. Everything was served well but i hate it when they serve it one at a time. They should serve it one time when all our orders are ready. My favorites are the hakaw, siomai, the Stir Fried Udon with beef and beef with broccoli! :-)

What i love about Luk Yuen is that they serve free fried wanton chips (not sure with the name) and service hot tea while waiting for your order.

For the price: i think its reasonable. For a group of 10 pax prepare Php 3000 - 3500 depending on your set & orders. :-)

-xoxo

Good and efficient service, from the servers. Even from the kuya guard--acting not only as a security guard but a frontliner, being the one giving our the menu to customers, asking those waiting in line to have a seat, or calling out to customers when it's their turn to go inside. Kudos to you kuya!128522

Anyway, was also pleasantly surprised with the ambiance of the resto as well because it looked clean and fresh. One thing I usually don't like in Chinese restos is that it looks dirty, sticky and crowded (ie., most Chowking chains), but not here in Ling Nam. Hope they'll be able to sustain this.

Lastly, cheap, yummy Chinese food. Lots of options, servings are big enough for the cost efficient prices. Also like the fact that extra soup for the mami is free, upon request. Will love to go back here 128076🏻

Well if you just happen to crave for Congee, order "C3" in Luk Yuen's menu. My Lolo likes congee very much. Whenever he craves for one, he'd take us to Luk Yuen and order C3 - he doesn't even look at the menu anymore.

I'm not a big fan of congee but this one is really delicious and filling! I didn't notice what kind of meat (I assume there is haha) and veggies and other spices there are in the mix but I don't care it's just perfect.

And the century egg - I know it doesn't look appetizing but you have to try it. 128523128523128523

An oldie but definitely a goodie, Luk Yuen will always have a special place in my stomach. 128513128539128522

One of my teammates "celebrated" her being one year na in the organization and we convinced her to treat us (okay, ako muna nag-abono) in Luk Yuen. It's a 7-10 minute brisk walk to the resto from my office so it helps work up an appetite!128560128546128558

We ordered a few short orders (dimsum) to share like their hakaw (serviceable but not as pretty & plump as the likes of my fave Causeway), my usual fried meat dumpling (nagtitipid na sila so it wasn't as big and as enjoyable even in 70% size), taro puff (yummy), and fried shrimp balls (with those elaborate crunchy and funky exterior like a birds nest.

Each of us ordered a solo dish (noodle soup, rice dish, dry noodle topping or in my case congee!). Their beef wanton noodle soup is their best seller, along with beef brisket rice or noodles (though I'm sorry to say but Le Ching still wins the beef brisket hands down). I got the bola bola congee (pork balls), which is good, though slightly smaller bowl na. It has egg, and topped with wanton chips. Cool that it's free na (the wanton chips), so I just put and put on my congee. I normally ordered halo halo in the past pero watching my cholesterol and uric. 128553

It's sad that they didnt regain their position in Glorietta 2, kasi they'd have more people in their old area than this one. Glorietta 5 is a so so extension of the Glorietta mall. At least the aircon was working this time around. 128517

Service was average. My joke that you have to ask then thrice for water (this is for their old branches) has been realized once again. 128548128548128548

I went here last friday.I wanted something to eat that will match the weather.Wanton!128525
We ordered:
128261Beef Wanton-which is better if it was served hotter.I was actually craving for hot soup.128532
128261Noodles Cantonese Style- I actually liked it,128077The vegetables were fresh and crunchy.A bit sweet and not too salty.
128261Fried meat dumplings- Pero may mga repolyo!128513 I was surprised that the wrapper was not that crispy.Tasted like regular dumpling, nothing extraordinary.
The crew were like robots, they're not even looking at their customers.,gloomy like the weather.128532
I think the AC is not working,it's colder outside.128563

The airconditioning wasn't cool enough. Or maybe its because it was just too hot outside. Well anyway, I didn't complain because it wasn't that bad. All I know is that I'm
famished.

Sorry about the half full dishes. I'm about to die of starvation so I had to eat before I can take the pictures. 128517 The fried noodles ( I guess thats what they call it) was ok. I like the buttered chicken, beef with brocolli and hakaw! Or maybe because these were safe choices but nevertheless, I left with a happy tummy! 128523
