We were searching for beach near the city when we came across Mactan Newtown Beach. It was only an hour away! We paid Php260 (one way) for the taxi from the city to the beach.
I was surprised that the entrance fee was only Php150 per head on weekdays (Monday to Friday) while PhP200 per head on weekends (Saturday & Sunday). Operating hours are from 6AM-6PM daily. Based on some of the reviews I've read, the beach has white sand and looks big. But it actually has a short beach front and during peak hours, it can be very crowded. Another episode of “You can never judge a book by its cover.” We went on a Sunday so it was no surprise that the place was packed. We couldn’t even rent a table since everything was booked. But it was alright. I found the rates for the tables and watersports to be overpriced anyway.

The nice thing about Mactan Newtown Beach is that they allow dogs in their premises! I enjoyed petting almost every dog I saw There’s only one public bathroom in the area which accommodates to around 10 people at a time. The lines can go quite looooong on peak days. There's also a small kiosk near the entrance that sell snacks and drinks. Nonetheless, if you just want to enjoy the salty air and beach for an affordable price, this can be your beach. I’d recommend going on a weekday to maximize the beach and bringing a car if you have one since it’s hard to call a cab.
P. S. The areas near the islands are quite shallow and rocky so please no diving.
