Madge Cafe is a popular place in Iloilo and it has one unique location - inside the La Paz Public Market.

The place offers food and coffee but they’re more popular for the latter. The food is the usual turo-turo items and some silog meals.
For the coffee, you’ll be intrigued because of the display of mugs in one side of Madge Cafe. Some mugs have names of people written on - probably these are the regulars of the cafe. Plus, the coffee is being prepared right in front of you.

You can order your coffee the way you like it - hot or iced, strong or regular or mild, with or without milk. We got Iced Coffee (Php 45) and Media Regular (Regular Coffee with Milk, hot, Php 40). The iced coffee was really good. The coffee taste was just right and the sweetness was very light. For the Hot Media Regular, it also tasted yum. It’s a more bitter than the Iced Coffee but still manageable.

Have read about madge Cafe prior to our trip to Iloilo and I was really curious about how a Cafe in the middle of the palengke could be so famous! Included it in our short day trip and we weren't disappointed!
You can easily find it by asking the locals. Upon entering, the place was clean and you'd be greeted right away by the knowledgeable ate's. I got their best seller which is their iced coffee (₱45 I think) and hubby got a hot cup of one of their specialties as well. Ate suggested some bread to go along with our coffee and we gladly obliged.
Our orders came quickly and wow, it is really one of the best iced coffees I've had! Strong but not overpowering or bitter, it also had the right amount of sweetness that went well with the bread. Hubby also enjoyed his hot cup, he said it was strong too but very delicious. I think I paid ₱150 for the both of us!
I highly recommend including madge Cafe if and when you're in Iloilo city 128522

I am so proud finding this place just by taking a jeepney ride without knowing the signage and just followed google maps and was really lucky to locate this! 128525 I never really thought its actually inside the La Paz market.

I ordered their iced coffee for 45 pesos I think.
It was nothing really special but what made it unique is ofcourse the ambiance having to sit in a coffee shop located inside a market and all those colorful mugs! 128522

Will definitely go back once I am in Iloilo again. 9786

Another place that foodie usually visit in La Paz Market is the Madge Café. I missed this place on my previous visit in La Paz Market. Bu this time I made sure I take note of it. Just a few store away from Netong’s Batchoy you’ll find Madge Café.
Madge Café gain popularity being one of the oldest café in the Iloilo. Named after the wife owner Magdalena. They started serving coffee since 1940 or 1951?. Wow! It started first selling Halo-halo but soon the owner realized that it’s a seasonal kind of item. So soon they ventured to serving coffee. Now the place is being managed by the 3rd generation of their clan. Wow!

This coffee shop is not your typical coffee shop with aricon/wifi/power outlet. This place is more of a carinderia looking but with colorful mugs displayed. This is the type of coffee shop that remind me when I was a kid. A place where people just hangout and have coffee and bread snack in the afternoon. In here they served freshly brewed coffee through the use of Colador a type of cloth coffee strainer similar to the one used in other hawker in asian country. The beans used here are mostly sourced out from Guimaras and other part of Iloilo. As they call their coffee Kape Bisaya. They coffee choices are also simple and straight to the point. Choice of Media Café, Regular or Tabang. Depending on the sweetness. Don’t expect some kind of latte art in it haha. I got the Hot Media Regular. Honestly the coffee was your typical coffee. Good but nothing super special. Maybe I was wrong in choosing the hot version because my friend really enjoyed their Iced Media Café.

Overall coffee are goood and for just 40PHP I will not complain about it. Lovely and homey place that I will lovely visit again.

If you are in Iloilo & looking for quality coffee, Madge Cafe is the place to be!

This coffee shop started in the 1940's & is located inside the La Paz Public Market. It's not a fancy cafe - very simple but has this feeling that you are at home. I've observed that the staff knows if you are a regular costumer or a visitor. They treat everyone equally & with respect. I didn't even know that one of the staff of this cafe is the owner apparently 128517 While I was there, I felt that I was brought to the past where time stood still. You will notice that there are mugs with names on display. These names engraved on the mugs are actually their customers who are already a regular of the place. In all fairness, my grandfather has his own mug there 128514

What makes their coffee amazing is that they still do the traditional way of brewing coffee. Manang pours coffee on a mug using a kettle while she holds a colador (strainer) on the other hand. As a result, their coffee will make you feel calm & at peace.

When I get the chance to go back to Iloilo, I am definitely going back to this coffee shop. This will be a way for me to connect with the past of Madge Cafe & to truly understand why my grandpa used to frequent this cafe.

What would you expect from a shop that has been serving coffee since 1940? Delicate and pungent coffee.

This coffee shop is located in a public market in La Paz, Iloilo. Being a coffee person, I was really glad that I found this little gem. They serve traditionally brewed coffee.

I ordered their iced cappucino and hot Media Cafe (Strong Coffee with Milk). My cousin tried their Nai Cha (Milk tea) and Iced Caramel Macchiato. Everything was great. Their drinks are far better than commercial coffees out there. You can choose whatever you want: from something mild to a strong coffee, from sweet to quite bitter. Their drinks cost from 30 pesos to 50 pesos. Who wouldn't want a good drink that comes at a reasonable price?

We also ordered carbonara and a clubhouse sandwich. Like their coffee, their meals also did not disappoint.

The place was homey and simple. It's a great way to escape to somewhere chill and relaxing. The service was great. The owner was really accommodating. Glad to see how he knows almost everyone who visits his shop--students, vendors, young and old and tourists.

I would really love to come back to this humble coffee shop. Put this on your itinerary when you visit Iloilo.

I love it here! You will really feel how homey it is because the owners are REALLY REALLY accomodating. They welcome people from every walks of life, from politicians to carpenters, they treat everyone equally. They will quickly know that you're new there because it seems like everyone knows everyone. That's why the owners quickly noticed that we're tourists and gladly helped us to choose what to have since I don't really drink coffee. I had their iced chocolate drink while my sister had their capuccino and she told me it was THAT good.

As for the place, since it's inside a public market, it's not airconditioned and they don't have the best furniture and cups but you will feel comfortable and right at home.

Our drinks were under a 100php! They were also selling some bread but we didn't order any since we just came from Netong's La Paz Batchoy.

My experience here was really nice. I'd really like to come back.

Have you lost your identity........ Let's talk it over a cup of coffee. Madge Cafe Serves native Arabica coffee since 1951. Your iloilo trip is not complete without visiting the famous coffee shop. Always put this in your itinerary (best to go early in the morning while sipping the authentic taste of netongs lapaz batchoy). The coffee shop looks old but it makes me so relaxed from the urban city of Manila (especially Makati). You wont find any frappucino here but brewed coffee that is really made from iloilo will make you try this. Lets drink this coffee with pride! #madgecafe 9749974997499749️ #loolooexplorerpackgiveaway

My colleague heard good things about this place, so we decided to drop by when we were in Iloilo for work.

The coffee shop is located in an unusual place - a public market, so getting to it might be a bit confusing for some. Luckily we had a guide to show us the way.

The place does not feel at all commercial, quite home-y in fact, if not for the sounds of the market outside and the open-ness of the shop. Servers are quite nice and friendly though, and they clean the tables straight away.

I don't know much about the place, but saw that they roasted their coffee the somewhat old-fashioned but with flair way.

My companions ordered the black coffee, which they found strong but flavorful. I had the iced version, still quite flavorful and delicious, and with a price tag so much lower than commercial coffee shops.

There are apparently only 2 branches to the coffee shop, both in Iloilo City. I'd love to come back the next time I'm town. It's a great place to try out if ever you're in Iloilo.

Two orders of chorizo, fried egg and rice with a cup of traditionally brewed coffee is a steal at PHP142! I love the coffee and this place has become a routine stop for me whenever I am in Iloilo.
