As review of Lapu Lapu Monument- as Monuments are in the same park

Chief Lapu-Lapu (1491-1542) ... was a ruler of Mactan Island , in the Visayas ( Cebu Island Area )

Philippines 🇵🇭 regard him as the first Filipino Hero ... ‘cause he was the first native to resist Spanish colonisation of the Philippines

As on 27th April 1521 ... when explorer Ferdinand Magellan , with 3 boatloads of Spaniards & 20 boatloads of Cebuanos sailed over to Mactan Island , to help a friendly chief , against Lapu-Lapu ( local island Chief ) & his men , armed only with native weapons & shields defended themselves against Spanish Lancers & bows & arrows , as the invading Spaniards & Cebuanos were driven back to their boats ... not before the Spanish Leader Magellan , met death in the hands of Lapu-Lapu

Also at least 14 other Spaniards & around 150 native warriors were killed

Now on Mactan Island , on what is believed to be the exact spot where Magellan fell & died , now stands impressive monuments in honor of the Lapu-Lapu & the gallant explorer Mangellan ... in a large tourist spot ... this park has free entrance

This is the second time I’ve been here to this park & monument , on Mactan Island , off Cebu City .... the last time was in 2001

The area is more greener now .... however still hot & humid whilst walking around

Still good to have a look around , so to learn more about Filipino history

Love the fact that every year, Kadaugan sa Mactan is celebrated here and a bug food festival is held to commemorate this occasion! 128077🏼128077🏼128077🏼 This feast celebrated the triumph in Mactan when Lapu-Lapu defeated Magellan. 128522 I don't know why they celebrate with a food feast but I certainly enjoyed it! 128525 All the hotels and resort in Lapu-Lapu city showcase their food via booths and make up with awesome annual night market. Looking forward to more!

When you're in Cebu, it's nice to have a tour around the city and learn some of its history.
It was very sunny when we went here, and when we got here there were locals offering umbrella's. One "manong" offered us to tour around the shrine.

There was no fee but you have to register at the entrance. 128516
