The first stop of our tour around Cebu City.

Magellan's Cross is in a chapel beside Basilica Minore del Santo Niño. The original cross is encased inside the wooden cross to protect it from people who try to steal a chip as they believe it has miraculous powers.

There are women holding candles who will pray while dancing. They will ask you your intentions first and they will begin their chant which is in Bisaya.

This is a simple monument to commemorate Magellan's discovery of the Philippine islands, but upon further reflection, it holds a lot of meaning. Without this fateful cross, Christianity wouldn't have landed on our shores. Truth be told, it gave me the "goosies". Within walking distance is the Sto. Nino Cathedral and the classic La Fortuna bakery. Buy your pasalubong here as airport rate is doubled.

A walk down memory lane. The place is under renovation right now. Historical landmark of our history related to Lapu-Lapu's win over Magellan. But lucky enough to get a glimpse of it. There are old ladies around that would ask if you'll want them to pray for your petitions, we tried that and I think that's about Php 100. This is one way of helping them too. Conveniently located outside Sto. Nino de Cebu Church and there's a cafeteria nearby that's cheap with good offerings.

It's been years since I visited Cebu but still the memories was really something to be cherished for.

This was our first stop when my family and I arrived Cebu. There were heaps of tourist like us that time.
I was still in awe that this was the start of spreading the Christianity. It was hard to capture the cross itself as you have to wait for your turn as in like seconds there would be someone who wanted to take a picture as well. Just be mindful of your belongings as some of the Cebuanos would also say that it is better to be safe than sorry.

Sad to see the promised 3-week refurbishment has been extended to 3 months now. 128557 The cross and the paintings above are still beautiful but you can't deny the fact that the SUPER BRIGHT BLUE TARP is just a big eye sore. 128531

Our CebAdventures goes on. After oslob, our next stop, cebu city.

One of the historical landmark found in magallanes street is Magellans Cross. The cross can be found in a chapel next to Basilica Minore del Santo Nino. There's a sign below the cross stated that the original cross planted by magellan in the year 1521 is encased inside the tindalo wooden cross.

There were also some devotees that will offer you to buy a bulk of colored candles and they'll be the one to pray for your intensions and forgiveness of your sin with a little dance (i think it's their tradition but i'm not that sure thou) for P100. As our little way of helping them, me and my sister give it a try.

Magellan's Cross is a Christian cross planted by the Portuguese and Spanish explorers upon arriving in Cebu on 1521.

The cross is a historical landmark in Cebu. It is housed in a chapel next to Basilica Minore Del Santo Nino. Devotees believe that the cross possess miraculous powers. The ceiling is decorated with paintings tha chronicles Magellan's arrival in Cebu and the planting of the cross. I believe this is when he baptized folks during that time.

The structure got a hell of a beating when Cebu got hit with an earthquake a couple of years back. I am not sure if the restoration is completed.

Magellan Cross is one of the historical and famous landmarks in Cebu. A Christian cross planted by Portuguese and Spanish explorers as ordered by Ferdinand Magellan upon arriving in Cebu in the Philippines.

We went here last year and we witnessed the effect of the October 2013 7.2 magnitude quake. The Cross as shown in the photo above was encased by the wood scaffoldings to support it. The place was very simple, though you will be hooked by the murals on the ceiling. The murals were beautifully painted by artistic hands of the unknown artist/s.

Due to the earthquake that struck the southern part of the Philippines last year, Magellan's cross is closed for rehabilitation. Though there is really nothing special about it except that it is oart of our history; I wanted to go back because the last time that we offered candles and had a devotee pray for us, my wish came true and 2014 was really a year to be thankful for. 1008410084️.

Unfortunately, the cross or structure was being reinforced when we visited. However on my last visit (5 years ago), I remember that there were paintings on the ceiling and the actual cross right in the middle. However, there were also a few women inside the shrine like 'crying ladies', they would sell candles to you and 'cry/pray' for your sins. Nakaka kaba Lang.
Whole place as well is crowded so be careful of your belongings.

Another Cebu stop over from previous trip..

It is a nice place to visit , small but religious . There are many vendors selling candles to offer for various intentions . Just politely refuse if you are not interested . No admission charges . After this visit Santo Nino Bascilla just next door or the City Hall .

One of cebu's famous landmarks to commemorate the birth place of Christianity in the Philippines.

Though the actual structure is small you'll love the intricacy of the paintings on the ceiling. The cross itself is made from very sturdy dark wood and is erected in the middle of the structure.

It's still being repaired due to the past earthquake so it's filled with wood scaffoldings.
