Yum yum
One of the best tasting chicken katsudon.

The tenderloin was not so tender huh.

Over-all experience was okey. Price was reasonable enough.

Service was okey.

Slightly more expensive than Yabu but cozier since it has less people. Their tenderloin Katsu is still my favorite thing to order, but Yabu's taste is better. Maisen is a near second.

This tenderloin katsu curry was superb. I love how the meat was coated, making it crispy outside yet tender and juicy inside. The meat was so tender that I can cut it using my chopsticks (note: do not use chopsticks as a steak knife. Lol).

First, I tried to bite the katsu without the sauce and the taste was so good. It was light and has a rich meat taste. Simple yet full of flavors, umami works like magic in this meat. I can eat the Katsu plainly like this. But this is a curry set so I need to taste how this Katsu and curry sauce work together. The curry sauce had a strong taste and aroma, as we all know about curry. Little by little I poured the sauce on my Katsu. Gave it a bite and boom! The next thing I know was my rice and my Katsu were bathing on the sea of curry sauce. They really complement each other like a lover in a drama. One is delicate and light while the other is strong and aromatic.

The serving was big enough to fill in my cravings of Japanese curry. This set also comes with a bowl of salad and fruits. I think that they should have dried the veggies a little before they served it. It was soaked in water. But anyways, the salad dressings will make you forget all of these. They have a vinaigrette and the roasted sesame dressing which I preferred to use. I can still imagine the smell and the taste of the toasted sesame seeds...

Overall, this place was really comfy. Not too crowded for a weekend night. I wished I ate my meal to the food counter next to those staff preparing the orders. I am imagining the smell of all the dishes they are preparing. By the way, their condiments were pretty cool too. I love the jars and the little box where the wasabi paste was.

Definitely, this will not be my last time here. I will come back to try their Katsumabushi.

Yummy tonkatsu that does not come with a hefty price. I've eaten at Maisen twice this month to replace the calories I lost working out. We always head back because of the awesome service. They always look after each diner. One story I always go back to was when The waiter had his back at us when I dropped my chopsticks. Without looking and before a second passes he swoops in with a new pair! Crazy awesome service, galing niyo guys. And they always explain each menu item and suggest ways to season your meal. You can see that all of them enjoy working there. Highly recommended!

Had lunch here earlier, I just want to know what is the difference between "YABU" "Katsu-sora" and this one. Well in general they serve same thing "KATSU". But slight difference in katsu batter, so far this maisen restaurant has the lightest batter of all. The pork in mix katsu that I ordered is very tender, the mash potato katsu compliments the light batter and bread crumbs in it, best match with yellow-wasabi mix with mayo dressing and sesame dressing sauce! Servers are very attentive," you don't need to ask for a refill because they are the one asking if you want to have another" the usual refillable miso soup, shredded cabbage, fruits etc. though katsu sora has a variety of salad and fruits to choose from. They also have wide array of different salad dressings and their miso soup are way better than YABU and maisen but they have the heavy/thick batter and dry katsu. YABU has a heavy batter too but moist and tender katsu. So far maisen has the right batter. Light tender and moist katsu!

Checked out another katsu place in Megamall...Maisen. In fairness it did not disappoint. Got the Tenderloin Katsu Set. The meat was juicy and so tender. Cabbage was good too including the dressing. Good sauce, perfect with the pork. I always add mine with wasabi. I dont if I was just hungry or what but that was one of the best Katsu sets I've had. Maisen and Yabu are my top faves. I'm getting the Kurobuta on my next visit at Maisen. I just hope that everytime a customer leaves, they would check the table if there is still enough sauce and wasabi because we had to ask for the waiter to refill the containers. Nevertheless, tummy was happy! Craving satisfied 128522128522128522128077🏼128077🏼128077🏼128076🏼128076🏼128076🏼 #maisen #katsu #tenderloin #dinner #sunday #foodporn #thisiswhyimfat #happytummy

Bc it's been a long time since I had Katsu, i decided to try this bc some of my friends told me that this one is better than Yabu.

I ordered the Kurobuta Tenderloin Pork Set and was satisfied with it! I actually can't finish it all. It's a very heavy meal for me but i tried to order atleast 1 extra rice pa para di sayang. Haha! I also liked their cabbage and unli fruits but i have to say Yabu is still the best when it comes to Katsu and sauce think although we liked the Cheese Minced Pork Katsu Set better than Menchi in Yabu.

Verdict: will def come back if i'm craving for tonkatsu and Yabu is packed in Megamall128541

Last Christmas, I gave you my heart. But the very next day, you just made me fat. Yep, it was the season to get fatty two weeks ago and I have done nothing but munch, chew and munch some more. And when I was invited to tag along to visit this "most famous" katsu place (in Japan), I just couldn't say no.

Hello, Maisen!

The place looks a lot classier than the other restaurants in SM Megamall. Not sure if it was the yellow lights but the ambiance sure was nicer.

There were a lot of katsu to choose from. R went with Maisen's bestseller Kurobuta Tenderloin Katsu Set (PHP630) while I ordered the Salmon Katsu Set (PHP550). Both comes with cabbage, rice, miso soup, pickle set and fruits.

It took about 20 minutes or so to prepare our orders so I was quite famished when my dish arrived.

First one served was R's Kurobuta Tenderloin Katsu and it was perfectly golden brown.

The set includes a katsu sauce specially paired with kurobuta. It was slightly thicker and lumpier than the sauce from other katsu places.

And it was good! The katsu itself was great too. Crisp and juicy! It was one lean kurobuta!

The salmon katsu, on the other hand, was served with tartar sauce. I drizzled it with some lemon juice for a bit of zest and... it tasted even better!

The breading was as golden and crisp as kurobuta and the salmon was undeniably fresh. It was also served piping hot so I was cautious with each bite.

I also enjoyed all the side dishes with finished everything with a bit of room to spare for BLK513's most talked about activated charcoal infused frozen yogurt.

Overall, it was a good and filling meal. Maisen's katsu sets are definitely pricier than its competitors but delivers delightful meals. However, I'm still loyal to Yabu. Sorry, Maisen.

Best Katsu set so far. I've tried a couple of katsu sets from different restaurants but this one bags the best for me. Their cabbage goes well with their very own salad dressing. The meat is tender and flavourful. Not too much breading and more of the meat is what I really loved! 128523128523

First time to try Maisen!

I walked past this resto a couple of times before.... Seeing the exteriors alone, already makes me drawn to this place! Super good job on the decors cause it surely catches your attention!

I came here early for lunch time and we were immediately seated. After a few minutes, the place got packed pretty quick. Pretty sure you have to fall in line on peak hours.

Their menu had a good spread but I always go for Katsudon cause that's my fave whenever I go to places like this. I got the Chicken Katsudon by the way. No unli for veggies, fruits and soup 128528128531

Orders were said to come 15 to 20 minutes but really mine came in less than 10! Thumbs up for fast service! My order was pretty big. I was surely filled up when I finished my meal!

The chicken was tender and flavorful. It was really good. For me, it didn't really need the extra sauce anymore.

The manager was nice enough to check up on us. She asked about the food and the service. I also asked about their other branches and other partner restos! Apparently, Saint Marc's Cafe is their sister company.

Service wise, very quick and attentive staff. Plus, yehey for free wifi 128077🏻

Worst Jap experience ever. Allergic to seaweeds but chef refused to serve the dish I ordered without the seaweeds on top of the rice. FYI. Its ON TOP of the rice - not even mixed on anything!!! Worried about the taste but not the customer's health!

As I've avoided ordering pork for the past couple of years, I've always ended up getting Chicken Katsu set from different Tonkatsu chains. When I opened Maisen's menu, it was already what I was looking for. My sister and mom ordered this Pork Sukiyaki Set (on the photo) and agreed that I'd rather post this because it is something new and is definitely good! My sister even insisted for me to try it because it's just like bacon, which is an exception from my no-pork diet. It's sweet and saucy and surely recommendable. The Chicken Katsu's tenderness is almost exactly like Yabu's but my sister commented that it has thicker breading. The unli-rice, cabbage, fruits, miso soup, still make it worth the price. I cannot exactly tell why but in terms of food quality and customer service of the Jap food chains I've tried, I still think Yabu wins the best. #12Days

...they dont have the mortar and pestle thing nor the sesame seeds to crush on. They have two kinds of katsu sauce tho, regular and spicy.

...ordered the regular loin cut. Quite a bit of fat and the meat looks like it was folded over.

...based on what i ordered. Would still prefer yabu.

Halloween lunch at Maisen Megamall! 128123

When we got there we were immediately seated at a table in the middle of two dudes having a "bro" lunch and a family with two very makulit boys. Good thing another table was vacated by some customers. We asked if we could move to that table and the waitress just said yes, without helping us move the teas, towels, etc. How strange.

Anyway, I ordered the Cheese Minced Pork Katsu Set and the Katsumabushi Set.

The Cheese Minced Pork Katsu Set came with the usual unlimited rice, miso soup, shredded lettuce, and fruits. Taste-wise it was okay. Cheese was creamy, pork was flavorful, but I still prefer Yabu's version of this one.

The Katsumabushi Set was supposed to be their main attraction, it came with bite-sized tenderloin katsu chops, Onsen Tamago, and Dashi stock. The waitress explained to me that I may drink the runny Onsen Tamago as an appetizer or mix it with my katsu + rice, then garnish it with the sesame seeds and spring garlic, and finish my masterpiece with the Dashi stock.

It all seemed like a fresh idea for me since I'm just used to the Yabu-kind of katsu setup but sadly I was disappointed. The broth tasted bland, the katsu was ordinary, and the egg just kind of ruined my tastebuds and made me feel quite full (I didn't even ask for extra rice anymore). Plus, the watermelon in my fruit bowl was the white parts of the fruit already, so no taste there. The waitress asked me if I wanted another fruit bowl, I don't know if she saw me spit it out in my tissue, and I said yes.

Service was very poor. We waited almost 30 minutes for our meals which came in two parts, the Katsumabushi set came in about 5-10 minutes after. I had to ask several times for a water refill, they did not refill out tea cups, and the bill took forever to get to us. We went there after lunch hour and there were a few vacant tables so they were not necessarily swamped.

Overall, I'm very disappointed with Maisen. I had high expectations from this place but sadly Yabu still wins for me. Boo. Total bill was about 800+ including S.C. which I think was not worth it.

Adios! 128111
