It's our first time here in Manila Ocean Park and I remember hearing the hype about Makan Makan when it first opened. It was a Thursday late lunch and the place is not crowded. We ordered single serve dishes because we wanted different things. Hubby ordered Lechong kawali whilst I ordered Nasi Goreng Satay.

I love the lechong kawali. The meet is tender and the fat crispy. It disn't feel like you're eating sebo. The veggie salad that comes with it was yummy too. Squash, carrots with sweet and vinegar-y sauce. Pwede bang bumalik para lang dito?

Nasi Goreng Satay - medyo natagalan sila lutuin ito. Hubby is already done with his meal when they brought this out. I love the rice. It's flavourful and so yummy! I didn't enjoy the chicken satay. I didn't like how sweet it is. And the peanut sauce adds to the sweetness as well.

Their house blend iced tea tasted like strong lipton tea.

Minus point lang sa init. Deads ang aircon ng MOP pero malamig sa mga walkway. Kahit na may parang fan sila, mainit na sa labas, mainit rin sa loob. But I guess it's tolerable compared to the other restaurants in the area that we went to.

I like the concept and setting. We ordered Nasi Goreng, it was delicious and the serving was generous. The tanigue kinilaw was good but the serving consisted mostly of cucmbers and tomatoes. Caesar salad was alright. Chicken pandan was delightful, crispy skin outside tender meat inside.

They should improve their air-conditioning.

I think it was affordable for a fine dining. Their chicken was around 500 though the meat was tender and the sauce was so tasty. We also had sinigang and lapu lapu. Plus live band singing acoustic songs. 128077🏻

The best thing about this place is the service. Well trained staff - they know their stuff and are very pleasing.

The place served SouthEast Asian food + some Western dishes. Good, tasty selection at reasonable prices.

Is it because of the freshness of the coconut milk or the exciting spiciness? Whatever it is, Makan Makan's Laksa rocked it out perfectly. This is a must when you dine here. One bowl is bitin but that's what makes it more thrilling. Haaay. The feeling is real, I really liked it! We all did! 128155

Their Salt and Pepper Ribs is best paired with Bagoong Rice. Goodbye Kidneys! The saltiness of the dish is worth it! 128077

And Romeo Cake for a sweet ending. 128525

The sunset view is a major plus. 12807710084

Found the buffet breakfast that came with our room very ordinary. We waited in line for a table to clear up at 9am (breakfast is from 6am to 10am), but when the receptionist guided us to our seats, she didn't come back to lay out placemats and utensils. Service was quite slow as we had to wait a while for the glasses to come, and for the tables to be cleared and set up again.

The stations were the following: salad, cereal, juice, bread, siopao/chicken feet, egg, fruits, and the main entrees. Food was not impressive, and there was no bacon. Without the room, it's Php 800 for adults, and Php 300 for the kids, a price too expensive for the quality of food we got. It is possible to order ala carte.

I am disappointed with this visit because Ramon L and I had eaten here for our anniversary lunch last April and was more than happy with the food that we got. I even recommended it to my mom while we were still having our meal, but I guess their buffet quality is not as good. Sayang.

Oh yes! It's christmas and yet not merry at all if you eat at Makan Makan. Service sucks big time and the food is not great! There were only few customers when we arrived (5:50pm), ordered birds nest soup & clubhouse. We saw the clubhouse ready at the kitchen table for like 15mins and when we asked for a follow up, nobody bothered to deliver the food to us. Seriously the place is not that busy! What got me totally pissed is we waited for 40mins only for them to inform us that the soup we ordered is not available. 128545

Hohoho! The grinch!

It took me five years and two hours to eventually try this place out - that's not a lie! This restaurant in Ocean Park Manila is situated at the 2nd floor of H2O hotel and is set-up similar to the hawker food stalls in Singapore. Once you get in, you have choice seats of looking at The sunset of Manila Bay. While that's a gorgeous scene, it can be obstructed by lines of students passing through on a field trip. It's not annoying at all since the sun sets earlier anyway now. Air conditioning is good and keeps you comfortably cool, very different from the outside conditions of the park.

Given the change in management, you now wait to be seated and can order from any of the Asian cuisines available - Indian, Thai, Singaporean, Chinese, Filipino, I forget the rest but these are supposed to be eight. They also have a range of beer and wines to choose from. It may not be as extensive but at least they have something to offer.

Today's selections were:

128074 seafood tom yam that serves two. We opted for the original instead of spicy to gauge whether it was authentic. It was.

128077 char kway teow that could also serve two was tasty but wasn't what I was hoping it to be - something else.

128074 red curry duck was a bit gamey but flavorful. Awesome!!!!

I wanted to try a lot more (roti pa) but it's a good thing I didn't over order because I barely finished my char kway teow. 128533

Wouldn't say it's a "must-go-back" resto, but it's good if you're craving for different Asian cuisines all at the same time. In my case, isn't far from being possible. And if you need to walk it off, you can walk to Luneta right after, visit Pareng Jose and see that the high rise behind him looks hideous.

I loved that the price is friendly but the food didn't pass my taste. Well, that is my opinion of their food. I had Cheung Fun Shrimp that I didnt quite get the appearance and hardly found shrimp. I also had Sambal Squid that could have tasted better with real sambal and I hope they didnt add too much onions although I love onions. I think they also killed my favorite Chop Suey. The sauce tasted salty like some cheap oyster sauce. It looked nice though and I expected too much. Another tip, they use extractor and not blender for their green apple and carrot juice. You're gonna like it if you dont like bits of apple and carrot in your drink. I hope they could improve their food because the ambience is good.

It is a crossover attempt to hybrid Food Republic and a fine dine-in.

They have Malaysian, Thai and Filipino food too but it is the Singaporean cuisine that invited me too try this.

Laksa is ok. It could be better if they had more noodles.

Cereal Prawns is below the standards of Makansutra in Singapore. Prawns are large in size but cereals didn't stick to them so the sweetness is missing.

Choco Dinosaur, since it is not a Milo Dinosaur, is just ok. It is still better if it was the original.

Nasi Goreng is so-so too.

Stayed the night at H2O Hotel which included breakfast buffet at this place. The atrocity pictured above is what they gave me when I asked for eggs benedict. Enough said. 127859128530

Breakfast is served here when you stay in hotel H2O.

Buffet choices include noodles, porridge, bread, soup, rice and viands. My husband upgraded our set meal to buffet. I didn't feel eating much at that time so I just stick with our set meal.

The set meal choice can be Filipino or American. I chose omelette. Lol.

We dined here during merienda also and had the char kway teow and sticky rice with mango 128523

Food is great and so is the service. The waiters are very maasikaso esp during breakfast. Gave me toast, yogurt and fruits even if I didn't avail of the buffet. Had a casual conversation about the typhoon and assured us that the place is safe. There was also a strong rain last Sunday and it was kinda scary that we were near the sea 128513.

Stay safe everyone!

My last visit here was I think 2 years ago.

I was craving for roti prata back then and we were checked in at the Manila Hotel so we walked and went to Makan Sutra (now Makan Makan).

If you've been to Singapore, Makan Sutra is one of the most famous street food haven in the country. It's alive at night and located beside the Esplanade. Think Mercato, the idea is very similar to that but Makan's layout is more organized. Everything there is great but I love the wings and the prata the most.

Anyway, back to the Philippines 128540, the Makan Sutra here has a similar concept. I'm not sure why they changed it to MakanMakan (changed management?) but one thing I remember about the food, it may be good but it's not as great as the one in SG. I was a bit disappointed because I thought they brought the famous brand and taste of food here. 128532 We ordered the Hainanese, the prata, another dish and some soup, and the barley juice. The chicken rice was nowhere near the chicken rice of hawkers there. Wee Nam Kee's is better... Way better. And the prata was good but I didn't like the sauce so much...it was watery. And if you've tried (and liked) roti prata, you'll know that the sauce is one major part of the whole thing. I loved the barley juice though. 128077

I liked the bamboo shells too.

The price is not too reasonable if I base it on the taste but maybe that's because you're also paying for the wonderful sunset view of Manila Bay. 128077128077

I haven't tasted everything and maybe it deserves another visit but not soon.
