This review is for their Adriatico branch near Remedios Circle. The branch right across Robinsons Place Manila department on the same street is still open.

This branch is bigger with more tables! This is my second visit to this branch 9996🏻

LA GALBI + SAMGYUPSAL combo 128525 I really love the LA Galbi because of its marinate and the bones. Samgyupsal is a must for me when having Korean grilled meat. We also got the Woo-samgyup which is the beef version - thinly sliced!

Sides served included traditional kimchi and cubed radish kimchi. They also gave us some salad and a pot of steamed egg 128525

We also ordered a kimchi jjigae! It's not complete for me if I don't get my kimchi jjigae 128514 The kimchi jjigae here comes with a bowl of rice (as it should).

It was a great meal. Came out really full!! 128055

There's a Korean mart beside this store! Went shopping for ingredients after! 9996🏻

For my 30th review here on looloo (Can you believe it? I've already written this much! I'm so glad I discovered looloo 128156128156128156), I want to write about my all-time favorite Korean restaurant: MAKCHANG. 128022

I've already been here (Ermita branch, the one right across Robinsons Place Manila when you go through the exit near the department store's cosmetics area) a lot of times: with my family, friends, boyfriend, name it! HAHA.

Once you enter the restaurant, you will be greeted with the mouthwatering scent of grilled meat, and a loud welcome greeting from their staff. They have a relatively conservative menu, only offering the classic dishes you'd want to order from a Korean restaurant, but just enough to give you options to satisfy your Korean food cravings. Your grilled meat orders are always served with the following items, which, by the way, are all refillable (YAY): side dishes (kimchi, raddish with the sauce similar to the kimchi's, Korean beansprouts + leeks), sauces (fermented bean paste and sesame oil with salt), garlic, Korean style miso soup, and vegetables (lettuce and sesame leaves [more about this later]). You may also order additional rice for Php 50 per cup, if rice is non-negotiable for you. 128541

I haven't really been that adventurous with my orders though, since I always stick with my favorites:

SAMKYUPSAL (Php 250) - 1108811088110881108811088
This is your usual unseasoned sliced pork belly. A classic when it comes to Korean grilled meat, Makchang's version has the right thickness, not too thin lest it gets burnt quickly, nor too thick that it would take a long while to cook. The meat are also always fresh, without the foul smell raw meat sometimes come with. You may dip this on either of the sauces to add more flavor to it.

L.A. GALBI (Php 550) - 110881108811088110881108811088
Ooops. I think I may have placed an additional star in my rating. 128586 But it's really that good! These barbequed beef short ribs are marinated and cut thinly across the bones. The right thickness makes the grilling easier, and the prime cut warrants the right juiciness to this dish. The seasoning is also just right, giving enough oomph for this menu item. A MUST TRY! 128077 Make sure to spread on some bean paste when you wrap this!

Another thing I love about Makchang is their SESAME LEAVES! We usually wrap our Korean grilled meat in lettuce leaves, but once you try the sesame leaves, your life would change. I'm not even exaggerating! Haha. If you get a chance to dine here, make sure to request for it. 128521

If you want to grill your food on your own, you may do so. If not, the server will be the one to grill your food, so you'll have more time to catch up with your companions. Make sure to tip them for their effort, as the bill excludes service charge. Speaking of grill, I love how they use charcoal grillers, vs. the usual electric grillers other restaurants use. It makes the meat yummier, IMO! 128525

Please note though that you should not expect a lot from its ambiance. It's a hole in the wall type of restaurant, with no decorations at all. Lighting is not that good either. But what it lacks in the ambiance department, it makes up for in the food department! 128022128022128022 I love this restaurant! Please go try it out if you're in the area. 10084

P.S.: If you prefer to have Korean buffet instead, you may want to check out their sister restaurant beside, Hwang So Ga. It's reasonably priced (Php 449 - Beef and Pork, plus other Korean dishes), and of course, delicious! 128077 They use electric grillers for Hwang So Ga, though. 128546

This is not an eat all you can type of restaurant, but it has a sister company beside it that offers eat all you can(which I've tried as well 128521) I like that the meat was already seasoned. So after grilling, we already ate right away. Also, this restaurant uses a charcoal grill, and it adds a smoky flavor to the meat. 🌫 We ordered the classic Samgyeopsal and Beef Galbi and it was enough for me and my friend. They also serve complementary banchan, which are really good. They offer chinese cabbage kimchi, radish kimchi, and scallions kimchi, and some sweet potato. The side dishes are unlimited! This is my favorite korean restaurant in manila so far. I'll definitely comeback.

Prices were average or above average. Two of us ordered beef short ribs, pig stomach and tenderloin tips. We had one plain rice each and a bottle of oolong tea since they do not serve house tea. Our bill totalled 2,000 pesos.

Food was typical barbeque Korean meat. What was disappointing is that unlike most Korean grill place where they serve you 6 to 7 kinds of appetizers, this place only serves 3. Their appertizers were Kimchi, thinly sliced onion leeks and steam egg. So if you're like me who look forward to different Korean appetizers, this place is not for you. By the way, the tenderloin tips turned out dry.

If you love Korean food and is on a semi-tight budget, then Makchang is the place for you!

While we were hunting for a place to eat, we had that moment of confusion of what we want to eat. That's when I first tried using Looloo app for finding a restaurant nearby. We searched for Korean restaurants, and Makchang popped into one of the choices. Having a decent number of reviews, we've searched for the place.

At first, we were hesitant to go in because the ambiance looks like it was maintained poorly. The other restaurant beside it has a better ambiance though. However, most people seem to go inside this restaurant instead of the other one. So we thought, there might something good with the food. Thus, we pushed the door forward and took the menu.

We ordered samgyupsal and its beef version (I forgot the Korean name), and along with it are the side dishes. An order costs around PhP300, and is good for sharing. We were three in the group and we were already bloated just by these orders.

The food was for me, an above average, and the value for money was much even greater.

Lesson learned: We shouldn't judge a place (or anything) just with the outside appearance. 128517

Craving for Korean food? Then you must go here!!!! They only serve plain rice there but luckily there next door neighbor (forgot the name of the restaurant) serves bibimbap so i placed one order and they served it to me. Haha! Ofcourse we ordered the Samgyupsal (pork) and Woo-Samgyub (beef), both the traditional faves. They served 4 side dishes, soup, and lettuce. All are unlimited! Yes All!!!! Plus the staffs cooked for you and they have this smoke sucking machine on top of the griller so the restaurant is not that smoky. Must try!!!

This is at the new makchang along adriatico, infront of Malate Bayview Mansion. The store is much bigger compared to the store near robinsons manila. Also, they are 24hrs and they served us complimentary steamed egg! When we dined there, it was lunch time so we are the only guest at that time. As always, service and food are superb! The server is attentive and accommodating. We asked him if they could add more soup on our sundubu chigae and they gladly said yes. Will come back again!

Revisited this old classic for dinner with friends a
while back. This review actually for one of their new branches along Adriatico street as well, but right in front of CBTL Adriatico, near Remedios Circle.

The look of the place is kind of the same, a little bit sleeker. We were seated at our table, the ones with the grill and exhaust pipe in the middle. We had two orders of pork galbi and samgyeopsal (cost about 300 or so pesos per order). Our orders came with soup, egg, Korean BBQ dipping sauces and of course the refillable side dishes including kimchi, etc.

Our orders came after a couple of minutes and the servers are happy to grill or cook your food for you as you sit back, relax and use the internet (they have wi-fi!!). Food was A+, from the main BBQ dishes to the side dishes. Fresh and plentiful. Everything was so good and even if I was full, I didn't want dinner to end just yet. Delightful burst of flavors and textures in each mouthful. Definitely a good place for good Korean BBQ. 128522

Looking for a good Korean restaurant? you should try this place. Not kidding, you should really try it. The area might turn you off at first because it's on a busy street but the place has its own parking space for customers so that's a big plus. This is a new branch so it's clean, spacious and has a modern Korean restaurant feel. Staff were very attentive and full of energy.

Menu is pretty simple, you won't be intimidated on what to order and reasonably priced (P300 for an order of Samgyupsal). Their side dishes are bit limited compared to other Korean places coz they only have egg white soup and salad (I can't remember if they served free kimchi) but don't let that stop you from going. Quality of food is really good and you will definitely get value for money. Meat and veggies that they serve are always fresh.

Overall experience in this place is pretty good and will definitely come back. but yea since this area gets a bit crowded I suggest you come by during off peak hours so you can get a good(safe) parking slot. 128521

Not a family meal kind of place. The barbecue was ok, nothing unforgettable except for the sesame leaves which were pretty good.

Again this Korean strength food hit the spot. Things I didn't like so much about this visit: 1) they didn't serve their soup with the reason that they were just cooking it (man it was 12 noon they should have cooked it in anticipation of the lunch crowd) and 2) they didn't provide our beloved sesame leaf. A little disappointing.

My most favorite Korean BBQ of all time! Never mind the hole in the wall appearance and the presence of some "low flying pigeons." This place rocks!
