Rollo pollo: description : mozarella cheese rolled in chicken.
Reality: just chicken fingers

Mama Lou is for me will always be considered one of the hood Italian restaurants around the metro. It's also affordable compared to other italian cuisine place.

128204128525 seafood oilio @335PhP
Garlic is the first aroma that you will smell. Even better after tasting it. The mix of clams, mussels, squid and shrimp is abundant.

128204128525 Risotto Pesto al Pollo @325PhP
This is the way of "going green without eating the greens" creamy itslian arborio rice with chicken fillet and homemade pesto sauce. The rice here is better than my experience at evia.

128204 pan fried fish fillet @390PhP
Sole not dory!! Choice of either lemon, butter and caper, pesto or pomodoro sauce. The butter and caper sounds interesting. Served with veggies and mashed potatoes. But, you could actually make double portion of veggies.

128204 mama lou's pizza @350PhP
The combination i actually don't like -- mangoes with balsalmic cream doesnt taste right for me, but i think others would like it. To each their own as Christina R says. Haha. But i think the prosciutto and arugula tastes fine with the tomato sauce.

Ambiance is not that high class, but it's okay.

What better way to enjoy my "last hurrah" before work + celebration for my new job, than to eat with some of the best people in my life: my family! 128156 Since my mom hasn't been to UP Town Center yet, and my sister has been there just once but didn't get to walk around much, I planned to have our eat-out here.

Mama Lou's Italian Kitchen has been gaining great reviews in the recent months, so I decided to take them here. To be honest, I have eaten here already (maybe around two years ago?), but I can't remember what we ordered since that was during my pre "food blogger" era. 128513

We arrived at around 11:15 am, and to my surprise, there were already several occupied tables. It's really true that Filipinos can eat at any time of the day. 128516 Anyway, we were served with some bread and two dipping sauces while we browsed through the menu. These were our picks for today's lunch:

✔ Mushroom Chicharon (Php 180) - 110881108811088
During my recent Le Petit Souffle (LPS) visit, I have tried the Kinoko Frites, their version of deep-fried mushrooms, so this dish made me giddy with excitement. The serving size was okay, just right for an appetizer. Mama Lou's version fell a little short in the taste department, as the dish is quite bland in itself. It was good that it was served with a vinaigrette dip, which gave depth to its taste. We were also expecting it to be crunchier than it actually is. Overall, it was okay, maybe I just had my expectations set too high because of my recent pleasant fried mushroom experience at LPS.

✔ Spaghetti Seafood Olio (Php 335) - 11088110881108811088
According to our server, the serving sizes of their pasta dishes are good for sharing. Our family loves oil-based pastas, is indifferent with tomato-based ones, and does not really like cream-based variants. Anyway, this pasta can serve upto around 2 people, but since we ordered other dishes, it's okay for the 3 of us to share. One thing I like about their seafood olio is their generosity when it comes to the toppings! Big amounts (compared to other pasta places) of shrimps, squids, mussels, and clams topped the perfectly cooked, al dente pasta. Not sure if they make their own pasta, though. There was just one piece of mussel that's not that fresh (128561), thus, the -111088. It must also be noted that while there are visibly plenty of garlic chips in this dish, there is absolutely no overwhelming garlicky aftertaste! 128076

✔ Rollo Di Pollo (Php 390) - 110881108811088
This is a rolled chicken dish, "loaded" with mozzarella cheese, with their pesto and pomodoro sauce. It is served with side veggies, and a carb portion of either mashed potatoes, or rice. Now, notice how I put quotation marks in the word loaded, because they could've included more cheese for it to become synomymous to being loaded. 128513 At least it wasn't too nakakaumay, though? The chicken is also quite bland if you don't dip it in either of the sauces. Make sure to eat this while hot, as it becomes a bit dry when it cools down.

✔ PIZZA
Pro-tip for the pizza: you CAN order half and half for your pizza flavors, and that's what we did! 128516 This is a good option for smaller groups, so you can try two flavors without ordering too much. You will be charged with the price of the more expensive pizza, so choose wisely. Hehe. Initially, we wanted to try Mama Lou's Pizza, and Spinach and Goats Cheese Pizza. But the deliveries of their goat cheese did not arrive yet! 128557 So our server suggested that we get the Tabarnes instead. Their pizzas are served with arugula and alfalfa sprouts, so you may roll up your pizza, if you prefer. It's noteworthy that their pizzas are cooked in a brick oven, and the thickness (or thinness, rather) is on point! 128077

127829 Mama Lou's Pizza (Php 350 for 12") - 1108811088110881108811088
No wonder this pizza is named after the store, as it was the best dish we tasted during this visit! 128525 What sets this pizza flavor apart are two of its ingredients: mango and balsamic cream. It's my first time to see mangoes in a pizza, but it pairs well with the ingredients! The hint of sweetness from the mangoes, coupled with the tangy balsamic cream, really makes this pizza unforgettable.

127829 Tabarnes (Php 325 for 12") - 110881108811088
This was the flavor suggested to us by the server. It was okay, but extremely pales in comparison to their signature Mama Lou's Pizza. The anchovies were not really felt in the pizza, and was more of just an afterthought. For all of us, it was the weakest dish today. 128546

✔ Mama Lou's Iced Tea (Php 75) - 1108811088110881108811088
Only my mom ordered a drink, since my sister is allergic to tea, and I'm saving space for dessert in Manila Creamery (which I will also post about 128513). There were good reviews for their iced tea, so I suggested this to my mom. The iced tea is served in a mason jar, and is good for one person. I took a sip when her order arrived, and it was really good!!! I mean, REALLY! 128525 The hint of basil made the drink so refreshing; and therefore, I hail Mama Lou's Iced Tea as one of the best I've tasted! 128156

The ambiance was homey and the music matches the concept really well (I hate it when the music messes up the mood that the ambiance is trying to set). The servers were generally attentive, and they obliged to my sister's request to having warm water with no lemon (she's allergic). 128077 The prices were generally reasonable, given the authenticity and quality of their dishes. If given a chance, I'm sure we'll come back to this restaurant and try their other dishes. 128022

Since my cousin had her braces adjusted, there are only a few things she could eat. Luckily, pasta is one of them so we headed to Mama Lou's at UP Town once classes were over!

She had the Shrimp A'Limone which she really liked. She enjoyed the zing and the freshness that the lemon gave to the dish.

On the other hand, I had the Shrimp Formaggio, which is my usual order. Still good and very filling. My only problem was that there was just too much sauce on the plate. The pasta was pretty much swimming in it 128531

Oh boy did we eat a lot at Mama Lou’s. 128523 Last Thursday, Oliver and I are walking and window shopping at UP Town Center after we fail to get in time for a movie screening. Tired and hungry, we decided to eat at Mama Lou’s because of its good reviews.

We had the following:

127829 Poutine with bacon: hot, crispy, yummy, thick-cut fries served with gravy and mozzarella and meaty bacon. It’s so gooey good!

127829 Mama Lou’s Pizza : actually prior to ordering, I had no idea what this is, we ordered it just because there is a “Mama Lou” on it haha. There are many surprising elements in this pizza. It’s ridiculously thin and crispy, topped with arugula and alfalfa sprouts. And oh, what a surprise to find mango hiding a jamon! As if it is not interesting enough, it even has a balsamic sauce on it. What a weirdly wonderful combination.

127829 The Spaghetti Seafood Olio was a bit disappointing. It lacks that kicking flavor of the sea and herbs. Mary Grace’s seafood pasta is definitely better.

127829 By the time the the Braised Short Ribs arrived (piping hot), we were already full, but we held on! Haha. The meat is tender and almost falling off the bone. The sauce tastes like what my mama used to make at our house (no, she’s not Mama Lou lol) I suppose because of the lovely mix of olives and tomato sauce.

Overall, it was a wonderful experience. We dined in early so we didn’t have to wait for our seats. The staff are courteous and attentive too. Will definitely return.

We ordered truffle mac and cheese, poutine and lasagna. Love the food. Very nice service. Accommodating staff. But you really have to wait because the line is long especially weekends.

Bon Appetit128076🏼127860

For our last stop last September 16 UPTC food trip with hubby is dinner at Mama Lous, finally! I heard that they are one of the best Italian resto in the metro.

First we were given by complimentary bread, then we ordered seafood pasta for hubby as he loves pasta so much then I tried this Mozarella Burger Steak as recommended by their staff. It's so good , my stomach was so full 128077

For the drinks , the staff gave us a two small glass , for us to taste of what kind of iced tea we want, the Mama Lous iced tea or the regular and we go to regular.

Over all experience was really good. Try this Mozarella burger steak and the staffs were really accommodating , good service 128076🏼

Mama Lou is our default place when I'm with my daughter. She just loves their Truffle Mac and Cheese. I tried their Risotto Tartufo Funghi as I wanted to know how a legit Risotto taste like and I wasn't really happy with their version. Some of the rice were hard and it seems that it was not cooked well. I'd settle for their pizza and pasta next time. Service is good as usual even if the place was packed.

I've heard good things about this restaurant and (as always) was so excited to try it out.

We were lucky to get decent seats as the place was packed. Staff was friendly. The interiors made me feel I was in Italy.128516
Our orders:

CAESAR SALAD
I find the salad too salty. Croutons and bacon was at a minimal.

MAMA LOU'S PIZZA
I like that this thin crust pizza had a crunch to it. The mango balances the saltiness of the proscuitto. This is one of their bestsellers.

ROLLO DI POLLO
I enjoyed this dish with every bite bursting with the crunchiness of the breaded chicken and oozing with cheese.

Might try their pasta dishes next time. I have yet to taste the dish/es that makes this resto stand out.

Finally tried Mama Lou's last night. We were at #18 in line so we had to go somewhere else first. Until finally I received a call! But since we were already full, we only had the Truffle Mac and Cheese (Php285) inclusive of tax, but without SC yet. We paid around Php300+.

The mac and cheese was so creamy and tasty! I just added more pepper. There was also a complimentary basket of sliced breads with pesto and tomato paste. Loved the pesto as it was herby and salty. The tomato was so soury for me but brother liked it.

The place was small, but the ambiance was cool and very italian. I loved the brick walls and chandeliers and the music they play. The staff were very accommodating too. I'd be back to try their pizzas and more of their pastas!!!

If you're into celebrity spotting, this could be a perfect place. Spotted Gretchen Ho here last night. 128513

Now i know why they have such high ratings. Seafood oglio was good and the rib eye was priced reasonably. One improvement could be if they can use fresh pasta.

I was too excited to try their seafood olio because of multiple recommendations that I didn't have the chance to take a photo of it. The whole plate was devoured as soon as it hit our table 128514 but let me tell you it was full of seafood - clams, shellfish, shrimp, squid - you name it. It had the perfect blend of saltiness and garlic goodness. Definitely must try 128076🏼

Been here a couple of times... Actually we are regulars already at this establishment. We had mac and cheese again for my boy (he always orders this dish for himself). We also had pizza bianca(my personal favorite and seafood pasta with red sauce for a change.

The food was absolutely fabulous as usual. My boy finished the mac and cheese. I finished the pasta and pizza. Our favorite place in U.P. Town Center. Highly recommended.

Service was terrible. Our order took so long without any explanation for the delay. They did not mind if utensils were in order. We had to make follow ups for the water refills.
Food was nothing special that will make me forget the disgusting service.
When we asked for the bill it came as quickly as if saying please leave now there is another customer witing for this table.
They knew they did something wrong so they served a complimentary scoop of ice cream. It didnt change my feeling of disgust and disappointment. Service recovery is truly expensive.
I WILL NEVER COME BACK TO THIS PLACE AGAIN.

Italian food is sort of an ordinaryfood for me having a mom who cooks pasta and pizza almost every day but this restaurant got me so curious that i just had to try it despite avoiding italian food

In order to really taste if their pizza is good i ordered the basic primavera pizza with tomato basil and cheese, all of which are main ingredients of a pizza, it was indeed delicious, the thin crust was perfect not too crispy and not too dough-y, you could see the cheese threading as i lift my slice 128539 we also ordered their spicy arrabiata pasta which had penne noodles, and that spicy tangy tomato based sauce was well flavored and the pasta was al dente 128076🏻, another was the onion rings whih had this really really tasty batter you don't need to dip it in a sauce just to have a taste, what was interesting was that it was crispy on the outside... And on the inside 128518 the onions were almost still fresh and they weren't soggy and oily, i liked the way it was cooked, its different from other onion rings i've tasted. I definitely enjoyed their food and i would like to have dinner here again

He was a lil hung over from last night's beer fest,   he wanted to eat something greasy.  Off we go to UPTC.  Arrived at 5 minutes after 10, no issues with parking slots and the place isn't packed yet.

Walked around for a bit,  we checked the new wing.  A bigass tarp with the phrase "Opening Soon" adorns the space for Chocolate Kiss Café.  I remember seeing an article online that they're suppose to open May 19th.  The tarp is a testament that the post doesn't have an iota of veracity in it.

Anyway,  i ain't writing about the lies that social media feed us daily.  I am gonna write about my mum from Italy and her awesome kitchen.

Early birds catches the vacant tables!  An adage for foodies who live on the edge (the ones who thinks reservations are too mainstream).  You savvy?

Too much digression,  my bad.  Let's talk about the food,  shall we?

Pizza Bianca.  Thin crust,  brick oven style pizza with cream,  mushroom and bacon.  I like my pizza simple and this right up my alley.  Simple and sophisticated.  Simple as it is only made of 4 ingredients.  Sophisticated as each bite is a symphony of flavors.  I'd still eat it sans the bacon (that's how awesome it is).

Spaghetti and meatballs.  The ultimate comfort food.  The sauce is oozing with tomato goodness.  Tomato reduction perhaps?  The meatball is seasoned perfectly and goes well with the sauce.  And oh,  i liked the fact that they use angel hair pasta.

A meal at Mama Lou's is always satisfying.  You get value for money while your tastebuds have a field day with the sumptuous food they offer.

Last Sunday we dropped by Mama Lou's for a satisfying post-church lunch. Discovered the place through good reviews from looloo. Being the Italian food lover that I am, this was a must-try.

My hubby and I ordered two different pastas. I got the 🔸Truffle Mac and Cheese while he had the 🔸Diavalo Amatriciana pasta. The serving portions for both orders were good for sharing. My truffle mac and cheese was super creamy thanks to the addition of truffle oil. The top part of the pasta had a crunchy factor thanks to the toasted cheese on top. Meanwhile, the Diavalo Amatriciana (not in photo) is one of their choices under their Diavalo or spicy sauce menu. The pomodoro sauce mixed with chili was so good too. Hubby loved how he could absolutely taste the flavor of fresh tomatoes and the spiciness of the sauce is just right. It was just the right kick for each bite. The bacon slices were generously mixed in with the pasta.

We also ordered the 🔸Mama Lou's Special Pizza. It's topped with fresh tomatoes, mozarella, prosciutto, mango slices, arugula, and balsamic cream. It was a unique tasting pizza thanks to the addition of mango slices. This gives the pizza its subtle sweetness that perfectly complements the salty prosciutto slices. The balsamic cream also lends a slightly sour aftertaste. The pizza is rolled thin and cooked crispy. I love biting it and hearing the crunch. You could actually roll the pizza due to the thinness of the dough. Authentic Italian pizza indeed.

Our meal was perfectly paired with their exotic shake. Hubby and I both ordered the 🔸Colada Surprise which is a mix of Strawberry, Banana, Pineapple, Coconut milk, and honey. Talk about healthy ingredients on your fruity shake. This was so refreshing! Good to drink to refresh your palate.

Mama Lou's Italian Kitchen offers authenthic, hearty Italian food.
