The last time i went to Mang Jimmy's was a decade ago.  I stumbled upon this no-frills carinderia via a co-worker.

Fast forward to today,  we drove around Katips and decided to drop by the infamous carinderia.  We were both surprised to see the name changed.  They go by Mr.  T now,  or something similar to that.  I got distracted by Aegis playing in the background.  Don't get me wrong,  I got no beef with the group,  i even think that their voices are phenomenal, they are one of the selected few  who can belt out Alone without batting an eyelash.

The place is how i remember it.   The new management made some changes,  a lil upgrade here and there.  We ordered Tapa Mix,  Sisig,  two cups of rice and soda to seal the deal.  The food was served quick.  What I've noticed is the the serving size dwindled a lil bit.  The taste is the same,  i guess.  The meat is flavorful and weally tender.  The sisig is mediocre,  similar to what the dish should taste like ( i think Gerry's Grill has the best tasting sisig in the Metro)  (statement is subject to change,  feel free to give recommendations in the comments section).  Two cups of rice looked like four cups to me.  This wouldn't hurt if the rice was cooked perfectly but it wasn't.  I think they added too much water which in turn made-to-measure the rice too soft (malata in the vernacular).

I'll be blunt in saying that i kinda miss the carinderia i visited a decade ago. The Mang Jimmy's i know is the quintessential Filipino Carinderia for me.  Mr. T didnt stand out,  hence i will call them -  The Joint Formerly Known As Mang Jimmy's,  i hope they maintain the kind of food that the old management offered years back.

Mang Jimmy's is a part of my college life. The place may not be that pleasant but the food is really good and the price is perfect for students.

I still go back here once in a while because of their Mixed Tapa.

It is sweet and a little bit spicy served in a sizzling plate. I don't know why they call it Mixed. I mean what else do they used? I don't want to know. All I know is, it's yummy.

Isko and Iska's favorite treat! Mang Jimmy's has the best tapa and sisig around town. When I was in college they usually have 2+1 ulam free but they still have the unli rice... :)

Pinoy comfort food, no frills karinderya atmosphere. Best value: sisig and tapa mix (though lately, this had tasted more like tocino mix).

They don't have the unli rice and 2+1 promo anymore that had put them on the map :(

One of the best tapa served in the Metro.. A combination of pork and beef served in a sizzling plate that would make you sizzle. You come in group and get 5 orders, you get an etra free foodie! Yum!! Imma gonna eat now!!

We went here for lunch and ordered tapa mix, chopsuey and sisig. Their tapa mix is the best because its taste has a twist while the chopsuey was ok and the sisig tasted like a canned good sisig (Purefoods).I did not really like the place because there are lots of flies wanting to land on my food. They also have no free soup available. I was just there because of the tapa mix which really is a must try. They serve their food in a sizzling plate. I just dont find the ambiance appetizing to eat at all lol! 128513

The must-visit place noong college, circa 2004. Typical carinderia joint na bandehado ang pagseve ng kanin. May two plus one ulam promo pa dati. Typical ang lasa ng ulam, parang pang araw-araw na luto ni Nanay. Hindi siya pang-Sunday lunch level.

A great deal if you're a fan of meat served on a sizzling plate. Their tapa is the best I've had so far. They also have a 5+1 deal, where ordering five entrees gets you another one free.
