Mangan offers pretty good Filipino food . Often overlooked, at least imo, despite it's wonderful location in galle, this place makes the best crispy tadyang. It's not crispy all throughout but I like how there's both a crunch and something soft to chew on and savor the flavor of the meat.

The sinigang na sugpo was just okay and the lengua too. But what I really really liked was the crispy tadyang; we got 3 orders for all 7 of us in the table. Really good stuff, I can't stress that enough!

Filipino cuisine will forever have a special place in my heart. I am not being biased or what but there’s really something so comforting with eating Filipino food. Could it be the umami?

One Saturday, I had a girls’ lunch out with my mom and grandmother at Robinsons Galleria. Since my grandmother isn’t that adventurous with food, we decided to head to Mangan, a Filipino restaurant.

There wasn’t much people eating and it was lunch time when we arrived. I guess those new restaurants at BGC and Shangri-La’s east wing are eating other malls’ share of hungry tummies.

It didn’t took us long to decide what to order. We ordered my grandma’s favorite Sinigang sa Bayabas Bangus (milkfish) Belly (PHP280) and Gatang Sigarillas (PHP120). After some thought, I also ordered Lechong Babi (PHP240) as it goes well with the veggies I ordered.

While waiting and munching on the complimentary crispy shoestring sweet potatoes (where some were oddly wet), one of the servers approached us. He shared that they are selling PHP300 gift certificates and if we buy now, we get free puto bumbong. (It made me wonder if he saw my excitement when I saw that they sell puto bumbong.) I then asked if the GCs have an expiry date and true enough the GCs are valid until November this year. I told him that this is against DTI rules as gift certificates should be treated like cash as it was bought with cash, at full amount. The server just… smiled then asked if I still want to avail of it. Uhm…

Our food was served a few minutes after.

The Gatang Sigarillas was very savory. It was sweet and it made me crave for anything salty or more rice! I enjoyed the crunch of the sigarillas (winged beans) though.

The Lechong Babi (suckling pig) was a surprise. Serving was very stingy for its price of PHP240. It was literally a small chunk of pork. The saddest thing was that it wasn’t even crispy and it seemed to be over-fried. Thankfully, the siding enchaladang magga (green mango salad) was pretty good.

Now for the bangus belly…

You cannot deny the taste of guava. It was tangy, salty and sweet all at the same time. The serving was also pretty generous and a party of 4 can share one order. The vegetables used were fresh as well and crunchy (which was a good contrast to the soft milkfish).

Overall, the meal was satisfying. We were too full though to order dessert. I’ll definitely visit around 2 p.m. next time to avail of their merienda sets. :)

Date with my Nanay and after treating her for a hair color, she told me it was her time to treat me for merienda. We were both craving for palabok so we both tried it here.

Service was quite slow. Eventhough the crew already saw us, not even bother to give us the menu. Anyhow, we ordered for seafood pancit luglug, puto bumbong, gulaman and mais con yelo. The drinks were the first to served so almost half of it were already drunk by us before the palabok served. We also need to follow up the puto bumbong after 10 mins of waiting and we were done eating the palabok. To think that there wasn't too much customer around, they should at least gave a good service.

Food was great though but service wasn't.

Service was very inefficient. Waiter did not catch one of our orders when ALL of us in the table heard it. Also, waiting time was around 25-30 mins (they said it would only take 15-30). In addition, the servers did not seem to know the food they are serving - which is really weird.

Looking for a place to have lunch with gym buddies after workout and we opted for some Filipino cuisine...

* Kare-Kare.Buntot ng Baka @360 -- pretty generous serving and the sauce tasted yummy128077

* Sisig ni Mely @260 -- was kinda disappointed with this one... expecting it to be served on a hot plate ala sizzling sisig but it came wrapped in banana leaf and tasted mediocre 128533128513

* Lengua with mushroom @285 -- eh... so-so... nothing to rave about 128528

* Bistig Bangus belly @220 -- liked this one since I love Bangus belly... and the sauce was pretty tasty 128077

* Garlic rice -- 128078 -- I get that some people like their rice dry and "matigas" but not me... their rice was like bullets... sobrang tigas parang hilaw pa... lol... I had to order steamed rice instead coz I couldn't eat it....My friends didn't seem to mind though so I guess it was just me 128556128565

Delicious food, probably won't remember all of the names of the dishes but enjoyed it nonetheless. Service wasn't too bad but took a very long time to get our bill...

Goto Espesyal for lunch. Very filling for a small bowl worth PHP80.

Place is quite small, design is open to a high traffic area but is pretty cozy.

Nice servers but ridiculously slow service.

Another place for good filipino dishes with a twist! 128525

I like their Binagoongang rice with manggang hilaw. It was so yummy! Learning to love bagoong because of this dish. 128523 Also try their ginataang sigarilyas and Tinapang bangus. They were all deliciously cooked! We also ordered their okoy that was only 80 for 2pcs I guess. 128522

Our bill just amounted to 1k++ but it fed 4 adults already. Sulit na sulit! 128076

The people were so nice and accommodating! And their interiors looks amazing. 128522

A must try! 128077

My mom insisted we eat here because she saw they have puto bumbong. I didn't object because I haven't eaten here yet.

We ordered Crispy Tadyang, Bulalo and Pusit Adobo. The crispy tadyang and bulalo was okay. Tastewise, they were how they should be but they were generic. There was nothing outstanding or memorable about them. The pusit adobo was just disappointing. 128530

And when we were about to order the puto bumbong.. It was not available. 128563 My mom will probably add this to her 'WAG DIYAN!' list. Haha.

Went here for late dinner last night. They're almost closing out, good thing, they still accomodate late diners. 128513

Ordered for Kare-kareng buntot ng baka, Sisig ni Mely and of course, accompanied with garlic rice. Also got their Puto bumbong sampler (with Grated coconut & Muscovado).

Serving took 10-15 minutes. The servers were attentive so that's been good so far. About the food.. Hmmm? Okay, kare-kare was great but i wish they would've been generous for "laman". Haha. Puro sitaw and talong and unfortunately, i never ate eggplant. Only sitaw and pechay though in this dish. Sisig was good but still my sisig was better. LOL. Or i would say, Giligan's sisig were also better than this. It's like there's something that needs to be remedied with this one. Bland, that could be. Garlic rice was good!

Now for the dessert, I'm a big fan of puto bumbong..but, this one...sucks! Lol. I don't know, it took me just a couple of small bites and yes, I declared myself giving up with this one. 128532

3-stars!

It's my first time to eat a proper meal in Mangan. Mostly, I go here to eat merienda.

1st thing you'll notice are the paintings of some of the most popular personalities in the country. I remember seeing Cory Aquino & Dolphy. This gives a hint that the resto is serving Pinoy food.

The servers are wearing a traditional barong like top w/c is nice. They were also attentive especially when we were asking for our iced tea refill 128522. Right about the middle of our meal, we felt the place is getting warm. The waiter said that their AC is busted. Buti na lang bottomless ang drinks namin. Lol!

Here's what we had for dinner:

Inihaw na liempo-128078 dry, tough at lasang sunog.

Fried hito-128077crispy on the outside & moist on the inside. Perfect!

Sinigang sa miso salmon belly-128077okay lang. Nothing out of the ordinary.

Ginataang sigarilyas-128077This was surprisingly good! This dish tastes like bicol express w/o the spice. And, to those who are not familiar with this veggie, it's like sitaw or baguio beans.

Iced tea-128077 I'm one of those people who's on the lookout for house blended teas from different restos. Mangan's brew is one of my favorites. It's blended not stirred. Not too sweet & doesn't taste like a lipton tea either.

Plain rice-128077 I wanted to add this coz it's very rare that I get a rice from outside that's cooked just the way I like it - hindi basa at dikit-dikit.
