Attended an event at the Manila Hotel this past weekend and a couple of days before that I was really excited because I’ve had the chance to try Cafe Ylang-Ylang, Manila Hotel’s own buffet-style restaurant, before and the food was awesome. This event wasn’t going to be there though but at the pavilion - still, I had high expectations!

Got there really early to get ready and it was a couple of hours before the event so I had a quick late lunch with my sister. We sat at the main hotel lobby and had to wait a bit to be approached by the servers. They also didn’t serve water immediately but they seemed a bit flustered as it was strangely, really full. Almost every table was occupied. The menu wasn’t bad. There were a good number of options. We ordered a plate of spaghetti and meatballs for my nephew and a four cheese pizza (500 pesos) to share.

The pizza was surprisingly really good! You could really taste how it wasn’t just topped with one type of cheese. I also liked that the pizza dough was a bit thick but it wasn’t gummy at all. Overall, we were really happy we went ahead and ordered that. My nephew didn’t enjoy the spaghetti though. Growing up in the Philippines, I guess kids here are usually more accustomed to sweet, Filipino-style spaghetti hahaha so he said it was too salty but my brother-in-law tried it and it was definitely too salty even for italian spaghetti. He asked for chocolate ice cream - serving was two big scoops topped with real pieces of chocolate and that made him feel much better! Hahaha. I love how kids are so easy to please! 128514

The Manila Hotel's lobby is so iconic and it has remained the same ever since I can remember. The mood was so cheery that day as we checked in with Christmas classics being played on the piano. The cheeriness was so infectious that we decided to forego dinner at Cafe Ilang-Ilang and hang out at the Lobby Lounge instead.

Christmas was definitely in the air! The beautiful towering tree was flanked by gold nutcrackers on each side. People were all happy and smiling, taking pictures with Santa and his elves. The atmosphere was addictive to be honest.

After placing our orders, we listened to the band play classics and munched on some peanuts. Our orders were served swiftly and covered with saran wrap as it was making its way from the kitchen. Much appreciated.128077 My fiance and I ordered the Manila Hotel clubhouse, which made us glad we did not order a Caesar salad because it was so big. It was also the most unique clubhouse we have ever shared. Served in a bread "container", the sandwich was nestled inside the bread housing and you have to reach in to get a piece. It was not bad in terms of taste-- all components were present but I did not enjoy the bread. I just prefer other kinds of bread over rye. We also shared the Pizza Manila Hotel, which was topped cheese, olives, and chorizo. We liked this pizza actually, which had a thin crust that I prefer. We couldn't finish these two dishes.... Well, honestly because we were saving space for the puto bumbong. Told you, the festive atmosphere was infectious!10084️ The puto bumbong was served with muscovado, niyog and cheese. It was interesting but we both felt that it needed more butter. I wouldn't recommend this dish, especially since there are a lot of things on the menu.

The meal was on the expensive side, as expected from an upscale hotel. We did enjoy the band as we sipped on cold beer.

P.S.
I saw that previous reviews have complained about the service, but I honestly didn't really have any problems there...

Very slow service! They don't know what they are serving. To think there aren't that busy with just a few diners. Didn't expect this for a 5 star hotel.

Chicken sandwich (450PHp) was a hefty sandwich. They used rye bread and generous filling (chicken slices and vegetables). Pwede na for hotel food.

I have almost forgotten how it feels like having your afternoon tea here in Manila Hotel Lobby Lounge. If I'm not mistaken, my last visit here was during my college days, xxx years ago already! Gaaaah, I feel so old! Lol. Anyway, I honestly can't remember how their bibingka and puto bumbong tasted like back then so when the server handed me the menu, I didn't bother looking at it. Told him right away that I'd like to have those native kakanin. 15 minutes or so passed and my orders arrived. The puto bumbong looked very promising in that pretty violet hue while the bibingka was very plain. My mom and I were joking about it because we were actually expecting for a small serving. Much to our delight, Lobby Lounge has big servings of these! Now let's go to the verdict. Taste-wise, puto bumbong is just okay. Hindi pangit ang lasa pero hindi din ganon kasarap. I was a bit disappointed somehow because my expectation was really high. I thought it could surpass Aristocrat's level of yumminess for puto bumbong. It lacked flavor. If not because of the cheese and brown sugar, I think I'm not gonna eat it. Their bibingka was a different story. Whilst it looked so boring and tasteless, this kakanin has lived up to my mom's meticulous taste! It was so fluffy and delicious. I can't fully describe its texture but it was different from the rest yet it has maintained its flavor. Mom finished it right away! Considering how picky my mom is, I can safely say that she liked it. I guess we all have different preference. Kasi ako I want my kakanin/pastries/bread to be sweet while my mom gusto nya yung medyo hinahabol yung lasa. Overall, this place has not lost its appeal to me. Still a good place to hang out while waiting or to have your high tea. Their comfy, elegant couches are perfect for the big chandeliers. Music from the band/piano will soothe you too. They have this calming effect that gets into me whenever I hear them play while looking at the chandelier. Weird ba? Haha! Maybe it's just me but really, this a perfect place to chill. #50kSummerGiveAway

I take the position that generally, apart from the taste of the food, people go to hotels also for their excellent service. This is the Manila Hotel so much was expected of it.

I like their Lobby's decorations every holiday, it is super cute and adorable.

It was my first time to eat at their lobby. I was very disappointed. It took forever to catch the staff's attention to give us their menus. The staff that attended to us was really unpleasant. She was neither friendly nor accommodating. Worse, she as inefficient. When we told her our orders, which consisted mainly of burger and lasagna, she had to repeat it several times. At first she look puzzled like she had no clue that such items were on the menu. It was frustrating.

Food took forever to arrive. The presentation of the burger as seen above was good. It also tasted good, it was cooked well.

The lasagna they served was also a big serving and there was some pesto on top of the cheese. I ended up ordering lasagna as there were not a lot of choices on the menu. I wanted something light. I could not find anything light and appetizing on the menu at that time.

Overall, my dining experience here was just okay. Service was bad. The staff was borderline rude and it took forever to cook and prepare our food. Note that there was only 1 other occupied table at that time. The food was not really that great. As service was poor and food taste is just okay, I feel that there was no value for my money here and I will probably not hang out in his lobby any time soon. I would prefer to stay at other hotels.

There's a waitress who's very unpleasant to us her name is Steff and every customer doesn't want to be treated like that.

Beware this girl or waitress named Steffi! She is Bastos. I think she need to be trained on how to handle customer relations! I'm asking something and she made "irap" on me! 128548128548

Classic Fil-Spanish architecture (well, i am not really sure). The ambiance is so great. Foods and drinks are a bit pricey though.

Christmas season is always synonymous to Manila Hotel's yummy bibingka.10084️ With salted egg, Quesong Puti and desiccated coconut, this dish paired with coffee is perfect to relax the afternoon away in the cozy old-school lobby lounge. I can do without the sugar on top though, next time I'll ask them not to include it.

I love the chandeliers here, so grand. This season they decked out the lobby with nutcracker soldiers? And santa's helpers. So cute!
