Marco Polo is a reliable hotel in Davao and, indeed, should be the choice for first-time travelers to the city. Many tourists and locals can be seen in the hotel, not just for vacation accommodation, but also for meetings, conventions, and other local events. At the time of my stay, for example, there was an ongoing job fair at the ground floor and a wedding reception at the higher floor.

Certainly, the hotel has been around for some time, and there are some fixtures, including those in the room, that are a little dated. But the advantage of Marco Polo comes in their service -- not just the usual courtesy and friendliness that hotel staff show, but also the pride they exhibit in working at the hotel and in Davao city. Without prying, they'd narrate how the areas around the hotel is safe to explore, with their mayor being strict and all.

Food at the hotel found their way from a rut to a new kitchen crew and management. Breakfast buffet was very good, contrary to negative reviews on the buffet.

Marco Polo's should be the on top of mind hotel option when visiting Davao City. Yes, it may be pricey but the amenities and services they provide are more than your money's worth.

It's conveniently located in the city center and nearby souvenir shops, fruit stands, and the famous night street food market.

Oh and they do serve afternoon tea time and cocktails at night if you opt to book their continenal club rooms. Breakfast buffet was a bit let down though because of the few food options but it's not much of an issue for me.

And the view of Davao City and Samal Island at the hotel's topmost floor? Stunning and definitely picturesque!

My mom received this cake on her birthday because she requested it128514 she once tried it when she ate at marco polo and she wanted to let her brothers and sisters from manila try it. This cake is the Tablea Cake. My dad didn't really like it but it depends on your taste. I liked it but maybe half a slice is way more than enough for one serving because the cake is very rich and moist. Not the airy kind of mammon inside. It was not sweet. A bit bitter because of the pure tablea chocolate but it was definitely "Davao". It's something you can offer your guests if they wanted something Davao Authentic!:)

Been here cause we had a school trip.

Loved the breakfast I shall say ! Haha up until today I am craving for it! You have pasta, ice cream, hot fudge, unli yogurt and yakult! Oh my. It was heaven! Best part would be making your own pancakes! 128539128539128539

The spa, Lazuli was fantastic! My money was oh so worth it. I had my own private room and steam shower. Ahhhh! Perfection! 978697869786

I had to minus one star for service. The front office doesn't answer every single time I called them. I had to go down just to talk to them. 128561128561128561

Bed was great. Even though I slept on the extra one. They have an ipod dock so you can listen to your songs but the dock is for the iphone 4 type not yet the lightning cord. So you have to have the adaptor

If convenience and comfort is at the top of your list, this hotel accommodates those two to make sure you'll have a memorable stay. Located at the heart of the city center, it is near shopping centers, business district, food joints, airport, etc giving you convenient access to one of the biggest cities in the world. The hotel made it sure you got everything you need in your room even offering city-view rooms. But price will always be something to consider.

after all the traveling, hotels start to look the same to me.

i find their offering standard, from the room amenities to the breakfast fare. also came at a busy time so non smoking rooms were fully booked.

what set them apart? the receptionist near the concierge was in this beautiful native costume - colorful woven fabric and feather head dress. the flowers that greeted guests at the lobby were eyecatching as well. i love local color!

The Marco Polo Hotel is the most recognizable building in Davao City. It's (currently) the tallest building in the city. And it's rated as a 4-star hotel. (No pun intended, hehe.)

This will be a review for their service and food as a venue host, as I attended a summit and forum here.

The ballrooms, used as the summit venue, were quite big and clearly well-maintained. Interiors were beautiful and acoustics were good for the sound system too.

Food was great and high-class, without a doubt. Good thing the event was sponsored. The food on their menu in Café Marco is quite pricey though. Buffet lunch/dinner costs PHP1000+/person. But I must say it's worth it. There are a lot of food choices and the food's top-notch. 128077

The summit was very orderly, and accommodations were good. Great venue for all types of events.
