This ramen saved me today! Like literally saved me.

I was under the weather today but decided to meet some friends over lunch. While waiting for them to arrive, I suddenly felt a painful cramping, terrible back ache 128534 and I was sweating cold and feeling of faint 128542

I had to bring myself inside the restaurant while I waited for my friends to arrive. Thankfully it subsided, the fainting feeling just slowly went away and I was feeling fine. I wanted to order something new but I knew that my stomach wouldn’t be able to take it. So I ordered a safe dish, I think it was the Beef Udon and sweet potato. We also got a pot of tea which made everything a lot better. C got the same order as I got and R got the stir fried noodles (sorry forgot the name).

It was an experience and good thing I wasn’t shooed away by the servers. It was just painful 128547

I like eating here over lunch because the line is short and there’s not a lot people dining inside. So you can take your time eating and chatting, which is what we did 🙂

We've discovered Marugame Udon even before it became well known and opened several branches. We often passed by this place while walking around High Street, but we never thought that this place would end up having a queue every single day.

Marugame Udon is a simple Japanese restaurant that specializes in serving udon and tempura. It offers a slightly different dining experience to customers, as it's pretty much like a cafeteria where you order your food at the counter, pay at the end, and carry your food to a table to eat. This is common in Japan, really.

So we arrived Marugame Udon at around 6:30pm and there was already a line outside of the establishment. We waited to be able to come inside and start ordering. It doesn't take too long, if that's what you're worried about. The food is served fast, and customers just normally eats and walks out right after, which cuts the waiting time of the next customers.

The real deal with Marugame Udon, though, is the affordability of their food. For less than P500, you'll be able to carry a tray filled with several of your favorite Japanese mains and sides to your table. This is what made my tummy really happy, as I was able to try a little bit of everything for a fair price!

I got the chicken paitan udon since I wanted to try their udon and have some soup. The broth of the paitan udon was not as heavy as most of the ramen we have here, but it certainly wasn't too light that it already lacked flavor. I liked its simple, not too rich taste with the added touch of black pepper and chicken strips.

I liked all the sides, although I don't really have anything special to say about them, aside from the fact that you can get to try a lot of them and not end up draining your wallet. I did, however, really liked their tempura, even though I just had a piece. I liked how the batter was light, thin, and crispy, and the shrimp being coated tasted fresh and not overcooked. I think the fact that it was fresh out of the fryer made me like it more than I would have if it was not.

Overall, although I'm saying that all the items at Marugame Udon are really affordable, I still ended up paying close to P400 for a meal, but that is with a lot of different items on my plate and a very very satisfied tummy after.

I finally got to try Marugame Udon after reading a lot of mixed reviews and hyped up queues.

I went after lunch to avoid long lines since I heard this place can get crowded at peak times.

No people outside! Lucky! 127808

Inside is a cafeteria type of system which explains the long queue. If people in front of you are new or undecided with their orders then they can really hold the line. Like me. I'm new. I don't know the system well and I can't decide on which to order.128514

🤔Soup bowl or Rice bowl?

Why not get both! 128525

And while I'm at it, why don't I try their other sides as well. The sides are laid out in front, buffet style. You can pick up anything you want and put directly on your heap of grub and pay over the counter at the end. I heard the Shrimp Tempura is great so lemme try one. And the cheese sausage is looking good too.

Everything around here seems self service. You mix your own sauce. Drizzle it with crunchy fried batter. Etc. Down to the water.

127836Beef Ontama Bukkake Udon - I'll be honest. I giggled inside when I read Bukkake 128514 (don't ask me why). I love how the Udon is springy and not mushy. Soup is understandably on the sweet side almost like sukiyaki due to the abundance of beef. The onsen egg balances it out while adding a creamy texture to the lot.

127834Gyudon - I love Gyudon. And theirs is no exception even if it didn't have the raw egg on top. Sweet sweet beef on top of white rice128525

When the Udon ran out, I dumped the Gyudon in the soup.128525 Ahhh bliss128525

Can't say much about the Tempura and the Cheese Sausage.. They were quite hard. Probably from getting exposed too much in the buffet line. Maybe a new batch will make a difference? 🤔

Japanese turo-turo/canteen style is what you expect when you visit Marugame Udon. Brought by BenChan group. This popular food chain in Japanese have more than thousand store in Japan. So it was really a good idea for BenChan to bring it here where people are a big fan of Japanese food.

This branch is located in BGC high street and usually have a queue outside. We went here for a late dinner so there were no longer a long queue and we were immediately able to enter the restaurant. Upon entering you'll go straight and line-up in the cafeteria counter. Browse what you want to order and they'll immediately prepare it for you on the spot. I love how organize their system is. After ordering a crew is waiting to assist to which table you'll be seated.

For my order I got the Sukiyaki Ninja Udon and I love it! This is not the sukiyaki I'm expecting. The soup wasn't that overflowing like the typical sukiyaki. This one got the egg yolk act as it soup with a bit of help from the noodle and beef. Tastewise it was a bit sweet and savory. I also love the texture of their udon and the generous serving of beef sukiyaki. I only got the regular size at 210PHP and it was enough to make me full. My friend got the Chicken Paitan Udon. This one is 200PHP for the regular size. If you are a fan of the light base soup similar to Tsuta you'll enjoy this. Very light yet good!

Overall I enjoyed the affordable udon that they serve here. Good quality and just around the budget. Perfect!

Marugame has a "turo-turo" set up. Queue, get your tray, place order, pay up, get seated, eat, leave. Everything happens fast except the queueing part if the place is already packed.

Finally tried the bestseller, Beef Ontame Bukkake Udon. I just loved it. Maybe because it was my day's first meal? Plus points for giving customers a choice between regular or large serving size. I ordered a regular one and I was able to finish it.128076

Fell in love with their udon at first bite! Got the Beef Ontama Bukake Udon and will definitely be back to try their other offerings. :)

Udon was just right, broth with creamy oozing egg was to die for and tender beef strips was just heaven. Add on the fried onion and chives and blissful food coma it was!

The regular sized bowl was just enough to fill me up and at P210, total value for money. :)

Ordered their chicken paitan udon and this time the sizing was right. Legit large udon and it sure was a huge serving. At 250 is was worth it.

Ordered Beef Ontake Udon Large since its the first time ill had it for dine in. The large size is not worth it and is only a few only higher than the regular 1. The soup that night was too salty, twas the very reason why they gave me only few servings initially and warns me that it was salty than the usual.

I think the soup was a bad batch and should not be served. Too salty.

Price around 200 more or less is bot bad for a good udon along high street. I noticed it was always packed these days so take out is better here.

A friend from QC visited BGC so another friend and I toured her around the place. A has never been around the area except the time she went to see the Mind Museum.

Cruising along the different landmarks around, we ended up in front of Marugame. At 4:45pm, (Monday), there was no waiting line and only a few people were dining in as well. The mouthwatering menu photos in the display and the good prices they had made us all decide to have dinner here. My two girl friends have never tried the place.

And on this spontaneous visit, I was eager to try out one of the few new dishes in the menu.

• Sukiyaki Ninja Udon (Regular: 210php) 1108811088110881108811088️ - I ♥️ everything about it. I love the broth flavor, the generous amount of sukiyaki beef and of course the udon 128525 I was happy with what I ordered and possibly I look forward to coming back again 128522 128077🏻.. there was no need for any condiments but curiously I just asked one of the servers what would best go with it. Kuya server suggested that I try it out with tempura flakes + dagashi soy sauce. I tried it both, it was okay but for me it just works well with the tempura flakes only 128521

I would come back again but this time to try the Zuri (not quite sure of the name but it looks like it’s one of the new udon dishes in the head board menu) Cold Udon, as this is what most of the Japanese that dined in when we came, ordered. Just curious with the taste and experience 128517128522

I’ve been seeing mixed reviews of Marugame Udon online and decided to finally write about my visit. Went here on a weekday with Angela Marie C & Norman Lester T during dinner. There was a long queue but we managed to have our order and get a seat for less than 20mins.

I’m no udon connoisseur so I’ll just base this review on whether I enjoyed dining here or not. I got the Beef Udon for P185. The beef was soft and tender, udon’s texture has a nice consistency and the broth was light but flavorful, though I prefer it to be just a teeny bit saltier, lol. Can’t say I loved it but I liked it.

Along with the Beef Udon I also had 2 pcs. of Ebi Ten (tempura) for P60 each. They also have other fried side dishes available. Ebi Ten was delicious, I definitely enjoyed this one. Fried to crispy perfection, you can tell the shrimp was fresh with each bite.

My only concern was that the place was too loud, but I guess it comes with their “cafeteria style” setup. Service was okay. It’s definitely worth a try if you find yourself in BHS and can’t decide where to eat. 🥢

After all the fad died down, my dad and I, finally was able to dine here. One Wednesday early evening, I caught the area with no line. They don’t do reservations so you really need to fall in line.

It was really a hype when the place open. But I like that it is Japanese food on a budget. 128522 no wonder many still return to dine here, like some works at SLMC-BGC, who were next in line, they’ve visited 5x already! 128566 The set up is cafeteria style, you choose a noodle, broth you like and tell them if like it hot or cold, then you also get to choose different side dishes along the way. Ordering is pretty simple. 128522 Food was also okay for me.

I ordered Beef Udon (hot), I was overwhelmed with what to order. Hehe taste and flavor was okay for me. I could still eat again but with a different flavor 128521

This is the first branch of Marugame Udon in the Philippines so expect a line during lunch and dinner hours. Table turnover is quite fast, we waited around 30 minutes before we were seated.

They have a cafeteria type of counter. First stop would be the Udon station then you head off to pick your sides and drinks before paying at the cashier.

(5/5)
11088Katsudon (P190)- My favorite from all the dishes I tried. It was tender and flavorful.

(4/5)
11088Gyudon (P170)- Simple and straightforward. I like it!

(3/5)
🔘Sukiyaki Ninja (P260 large) - The noodles are made fresh. I liked the texture and taste. The broth however was a bit too oily for me
🔘Ebi Ten (P60 per pc)- Just like any other tempura. Crunchy with sweet and salty coating
🔘Chicken Karaage (P60 per stick)- Crunchy and cooked just right. Needs a little more seasoning.

OVERALL RATING: 3/5
I like it here but I won't bother lining up if there's a long que.

The restaurant still needs to improve on refilling the sides station for faster service.

P.S. Be prepared to smell like fried food

Best quick chow evahhh 128076128523
Needed to have early dinner before my 6pm work starts. I came at a perfect time (few mins before 5pm) , at Marugame as there was plenty of tables .
Enjoyed my Tori Paitan (P200) , in and out of there in less than an hour!
Left the resto happy and satisfied, and still had enough time to walk back to work 128077 . One of dem petmalu days nyahaha!

I ordered Chicken Paitan Udon which was good. The Beef Ontama Bukkake Udon was better though. Spam Musubi and Tempura were okay. It's pretty cool for me that there are size options. I just had the regular one and it was already difficult for me to finish. For PhP200~ per bowl, you're sure to get satisfied.

The restaurant set up is really simple and I liked it. It has an open kitchen and the dining area isn't spacious. If it's full house, you wait in line standing up. Once seats are available for you, you proceed to the kitchen area to order and pay. Bring your food to your table, eat up, then leave.128517

Team lunch out!!!

Disclaimer: Not an udon fan. I’ve only eaten udon once before and found the udon just okay.

So I went here with no expectations at all. Not at all excited but my TL loves this place so must give this place a chance. 128517

According to the staff, the bestseller is #1 but if she’ll be ordering for herself, she’ll get the Chicken Paitan. So I tried the regular sized CHICKEN PAITAN UDON (not sure with the name but it’s #3? Haha).

Food:
- The soup was flavorful (even without any condiments). I actually liked it!!! It’s not salty and it tastes “clean”. The only condiment I used was the chili powder.
- The udon was just okay. Still not a fan. Sorry.
- The chicken was good. Cooked just right and though it may look plain and bland, it was actually tasty. 🤗
- Favorite would be the perfectly cooked soft boiled egg! Ahhh it was so gooooooooood!!! 128155128155
- Also got to try the Ebi Tempura and Pork Tonkatsu and both were good. Just kind of oily but pwede na.

Value for Money:
- For nothing more than 300php, you can already have an uber filling meal.

Overall, it was an okay experience. Not bad but not something that will make me want to go back here again. Maybe because almost everything is deep fried. “Healthy options” are not available.

But if you like udon and Japanese rice bowls, this is a good place to try. 128521

Marugame Udon

| Beef Yaki Udon @ P190

A stir fried noodle dish with beef, onions, cabbage, bean sprouts, chives, and yaki sauce. They make their udon noodles so it's always fresh. I loved that the veggies retain its crunch. Sarap!

| Gyudon Rice @ P170

Beef bowl garnished with pickled ginger. Well presented! Gyudon is always delicious but this is by far my favorite. It has a sweet taste which I loved because it's not overly sweet. Sakto lng!

Will be back soon! 128525

I journeyed to the south (a.k.a. BGC) to buy some Irvins for a friend, and found this gem 5 steps away. It was like it was calling me—udon & tempura? Why yes, please, thank you.

There was a line outside since there were likited seats but I got in fairly quickly. I'm sure the people were nothing like me right now, still sitting here typing up a review after finishing my curry udon and tempura.

But anyway, I love when interiors match the cuisine, in a tasteful way. Sometimes it's overdone, but here, it works. Really makes the place inviting.

Falling in line to order food was probably the most inconvenient thing, but it's not a big deal. Paying upon ordering makes for faster turnover, I guess, since you can just get up and leave after eating.

Food was great, and presentation upon ordering reminds me of the fancy buffet restaurants. Service is fast and friendly, and prices aren't exorbitant. P170 for regular curry udon, P60 per ebi tempura piece, P40 for sweet potato tempura.

Psyching myself up for my Japan trip next month, and this is a good way to start.
