I was frustrated when I secured only one picture of all that we ate in Maximo. Everything was delicious.

Since we got tired of the restaurants along Katipunan Avenue, we decided to drive along Katipunan extension. And we were so glad that we chose Maximo among other good restaurants in that area.

We ordered Binagoongang Bagnet (P220), Beef Rendang (P260), and Chicken Galantina. Of course, we had room for desserts. Sadly, they did not have their Bibibgka Mamon which I heard, was very good. We had Flat Tops Buchi instead.

Beef Rendang was really tender and had a enough spice in it. We really loved their crunchy and flavourful Binagoongang Bagnet. It was our first time to try Chicken Galantina. It was served cold as it was supposed to be. They served us slices of a stuffed chicken. It was really delicious. It tasted like an embutido, but it was way more tasteful. What made their buchi special was their flat tops filling. It was very creative of them to think about this!

Everything was for me, at a reasonable price. I was quite disappointed at the serving size at first. But everything made us all full in the end. The service was good and the place was really nice.

I definitely love to come back and try their other dishes.

This is a great place to eat with family and friends. The owner happens to be a schoolmate from college and was ever present during our dining experience. 9786128077🏻 The food we had were delicious! We ordered calamares, lamb salpicao, chicken galantina, baby squid, beef rendang, a pasta dish and for dessert we had their special ensaymada 978697869786

More than good food, what I'm looking for in a restaurant is its interior design. It has to be something pleasing to the eyes. Something Instagram-worthy! Something worth coming back for. Maximo Comfort Cuisine and Casual Dining, I must say, never fails in that. What with their variety of menus that will surely please your palate and an incredible interior design that will entertain your eyes, comfort is absolutely the perfect selling point of this nook! 128525127860

Chicharon Mushroom was a delight! A great way of enjoying something deep fried but not all that bad.
Maximo Salad, the perfect mix of tangy sweet and salty.
Mushroom Soup with truffle oil - what a hearty bowl of soup!

We will be back!

Why have I tried this only recently?! Maximo Comfort Food is one of the establishments nestled in Katipunan Extension. It may not be in the Katipunan forefront but it deserves some attention.

Their dishes spell out one thing: comfort. Their dishes are mostly carbs, meats, and other feel good foods that's perfect for stress buster nights or simply for catch up binge sessions.

You have to try their mushroom Chicharon with cilantro aioli dip. It's absolutely to die for. Tastes and feels indulgent but it's actually mushroom. Mind blown 128561 hahahaha.

Their sisig and lengua are good too but not as good as their mushroom Chicharon. Still a must try though 128077🏼

To summarize (like what I do in my IG chubbyperohappy):

Was so surprised that there was a restaurant beside a car shop in Katipunan! I loved how the place gave off a relaxing vibe or maybe that's because we were the only customers at that time. The servers were friendly and attentive! 9786️ Hope they do something about their service water though. 128557

Anyway, we tried their Lamb Salpicao and the Binagoongang Bagnet! The lamb meat was so tender and very flavorful! The bagnet, on the other hand, was really crunchy and was not too salty. We also ordered 2 dishes from their All Day Breakfast section. Both the tapa and the chorizong hubad were good. Both dishes were served with 2 eggs and fried rice. For dessert, we ordered the Bibingkang Mamon. It was really really really goooooooood! It was so soft and kinda fluffy! 12855710084️ (We ended up ordering two more HAHAHAHAHA)

Trying out one of our "neighborhood" restaurants along Katipunan. Place was huge, clean and comfy. Music wasn't that audible though despite the 4 speakers on the ceiling and the staff forgot one of our orders (even if it was mentioned first). In any case the food was very delectable. Had the Beef Salpicao (P280.00), Crispy Pig Ears (P180.00), Crispy Mushrooms (P160.00), Galantina sandwich (P160.00), Truffle Cream Mushroom (P195.00) and Lemongrass Pitcher (P200.00). The pasta was very tasty and crispy ears and mushrooms just delightful. Highlights would be the minimalist aura and yummy Beef Salpicao.

We were treated by the owner with 3 scoops of their refreshing salted caramel ice cream. Prices were affordable and staff were attentive enough to replenish our water. Not that pleasing but courteous. Definitely worth coming back and one of the best restaurants along Katipunan.128076🏻. Other than Gabes, this is a wonderful alternative 128077🏻. *just had to advertise hehehe 9996🏻

Nice place, worth venturing off the beaten path. Must order: Maximo Salad, Grilled Lemongrass Chicken.

Our thoughts on the lamb salpicao (the most highly rated dish on their menu it seems, based on other reviews) - it must have been an off day because our salpicao was tough, dry and swimming grease (the bad kind). It was probably pre-cooked and overcooked. Taste-wise, okay lang.

We also had the mushroom chicharon, it was okay. You need the aioli for sure otherwise it won't taste like much.

Despite this, we enjoyed our meal here. We want to come back and try their other comfort food (and dessert)!

Things to note:
Service lacks smiles. Seems a little forced.
Price point is affordable.
Place is a bit out of the way but there is parking.
Great for big groups.

This place is cozy to eat in. I had my birthday dinner here with my family and their food is delish!! For appetizers, we tried the cheese and bechamel baked mussels. They serve it with the cheese melted, it's almost like thick soup so eat it fast if you don't want it to go back to its normal consistency..

The salad we ordered was Maximo salad (sundries tomatoes, bleu cheese, candied walnuts, crispy capers, edam and romaine). It's a mixture of sweet, salty and sour. So lovely!

Their lamb salpicao was soft and tasty. Not like most salpicaos that are difficult to chew. Although it's served with oil all around it in a plate, it didn't taste too oily for me when you separate it with the meat. Eat it with the chunks of garlic. It's one of my favorites.

Baked iberian chicken is served as a half chicken. If you don't like too oily food, you should think twice of ordering this but it's what gives the chicken it's taste.

We also ordered cobbler in crab fat + kaffir lime. It's fish with aligue. This one's my second favorite from the lamb salpicao. This is also good if you don't like to eat red meat.

For desserts were ordered chocnut chocolate cake and bibingka mamon with queso de bola and itlog na maalat. The latter is best eaten when served, this way, you can appreciate its softness that melts in your mouth. The chocnut chocolate cake tastes mostly like chocolate so you have to eat the chocnut that is drizzled on top of it.

The staff was also really nice and professional.

In general, this is a place i would go back to. :)

Taste: 3.5 128077
Serving/Portion: 3.5 128077 they said it's good for 1-2 persons but it honestly feels good for 1 only. Except for the noodles in their pasta, maybe? But the mushroom in their truffle cream mushroom pasta are just those 3 thumb-size pieces you see in the picture. 128532
Service: 4 128077 some of their staff were pleasant and attentive. Others didn't even seem to make an effort to smile. But they were quick enough, so they get a 4.
Price: 4 128077 with portion and taste considered.

Don't get me wrong though, I'd still go back to try their other stuff :)

It's a quaint not-so-little restaurant along Katipunan extension that serves pretty good comfort food at... Comfortable prices 128514

The beef belly was okay, but a standout favorite is the lamb salpicao! As other reviews have already mentioned, it's the kind of dish even people who don't like lamb would probably enjoy.

Truffle pasta was kinda bland though.

For mushroom fans, give the mushroom Chicharon a try! Really good when they're fresh out of the frier but eat them quick coz they get kinda soggy.

All things considered, I'd eat here again. I don't see myself craving for anything in particular (maybe the lamb) but it's a good place close to home. 128077

Maximo's Lamb Salpicao and Slow-roasted Beef Belly were absolutely gratifying. They were so flavorful! We suggest that you pair the Salpicao and Beef Belly with an order of garlic rice. Judging from the great-tasting food and good service, Maximo deserves another visit! I'm excited to come back and try the other dishes they offer.

Lives up to the comfort food name, with a really non-complex interior. Tried the seafood chowder, the mushroom chicharon, and the lamb salpicao. They were all surprisingly good.

If I lived closer, I'd be here very often. It feels cozy.

Best place for comfort food!

I love EVERYTHING! But best ones are the crispy liempo and grilled Rosemary porkchop.

Not a fan of lamb but everyone who has tried their lamb salpicao says it's the best.

There's always parking too!!

Another new restaurant opened its doors on Katipunan Extension, and Ramon L and I finally found the opportunity to try it after seeing articles of it on When in Manila and We came here as soon as we got off school, and luckily, parking wasn't too difficult, unlike most restaurants on Katipunan. Well, I suppose it helped that we were the only customers there at noon.

The restaurant had a very casual feel -- white walls, only accentuated with a huge blackboard, and a space for their signage, and wide spaces that really make it ideal for family gatherings, or meals with the barkada. After the waiter handed us the menu, I had a slight urge to order one of everything (or at least, one from every category, haha). There were no pictures, but everything piqued my curiosity as it all sounded delicious. Initially, I wanted the Lamb Salpicao (Php 280), but the waiter came back to say that it wasn't available. We ended up ordering the Calamares + Chipotle Aioli Dip (Php 220), the Herb-Roasted Pork Belly (Php 220), and the Country Style Fried Chicken (Php 320).

What I liked about the calamares is the thin breading that covers the squid. Maximo doesn't try to fool you with the size of their calamares. Some pieces may be small, but it is made up for in quantity. The chipotle aioli dip was a good addition, although I wish it could've been a tad bit spicier.

The pork belly was Mon's and my favorite. Thin slices of fatty, herb-roasted pork belly, smothered with their herb-infused gravy reminded me of the quality I would get at the carving station in hotels. It tasted heavenly, and this, I would recommend the most. They also have a beef belly version!

What was disappointing to me and Mon, however, was the fried chicken. We'd already finished eating the calamares and the pork belly, and two other tables (who came later) had already been served their orders, but our chicken hadn't been served. As if reading my mind, the waiter (or manager, I don't know really, he and another girl were wearing something other than what the waiters were wearing) came up to us and told us that the chicken was already being cooked, and he also said that it was taking a while because they had to wait for the chicken to thaw first. On a regular day, I probably wouldn't have been so patient, but I was having such a good time that I smiled at the waiter and told him that it was okay... until the chicken came.

Tiny cut-up pieces of burnt-looking chicken was served, with my favorite gravy. The color was a dark brown; a color they attributed to their spices when I asked. It was supposed to be half a chicken, but they cut it up too much that it didn't even look like it. The chicken was so bony and dry that Mon and I only had two pieces each until we just gave up on it completely and had it wrapped. Not even the gravy saved it.

Here are my points of consideration:
1. We ordered the chicken a few minutes after we ordered everything else. Could they not have told us that the chicken still had to be thawed? I could've ordered something else, and I may not have been as disappointed as I was.
2. A perfectly fried chicken is golden brown, and even if they said that it was because of their spices that caused it to be a dark brown, why where there black (burnt) spots on my chicken (which was really the issue, more than the color of the chicken)??? It would've been better if they told me that they left it in the fryer a tad longer than they were supposed to, but no, it's "really how they serve it." okay.

Apart from the chicken, the service was not so good. None of the waiters seemed to smile at the customers. At all. Sometimes, they were just talking too loudly and laughing to themselves that they didn't even notice one of the customers trying to call their attention with his hand. The customer eventually stood up and walked to the counter himself. When I asked about the chicken, the waitress was eyeing me from the counter after she dropped off the chicken at the kitchen. Ok.

Regardless, all the things that disappointed me would not keep me from coming back to try their other dishes. This review actually merits a 3.5 only, but for the sake of everything else that was good, I'll give it a 4. There's so much more to Maximo than burnt chicken and crummy service, and I will come back for that.
