Missed Max's Much! 127831127831127831

We celebrated my Mom's birthday with Max's sarap-to-share Thanksgiving Feast. One whole super chunky yummy sarap-to-the-bones Max's fried chicken, one big serving of pansit canton, a big serving of lumpiang shanghai, 4 cups of rice and 4 glasses of Pepsi, all for P999!!! Btw, you can also choose sizzling tofu or eggplant tofu instead of lumpiang shanghai.

Of course we had to add that halo halo (always my mom's favorite!).

Max's has always been our choice whenever we want some quick remedy to our Filipino food cravings. My officemate wanted to have a sinigang for lunch so we went here yesterday and ordered the following:

Sinigang na Hipon - fairly good for someone's craving. 6 pieces shrimps with half cooked veggies. I just can't figure out what the floating something on the sabaw. Was it sebo or hindi natunaw na sinigang powder? Lol!

Whole fried chicken - we chose the family size because chicken spring and regular are usually small, but why oh why! Their family size chicken was small too. 128528

The place was packed when we came and we were seated in one of their function areas. A/C was not working properly. It was so hot inside the room. It was very hard to call a server as well.

Our server was inattentive. We ordered a pitcher of iced tea and he gave us glasses of water each instead. We had to repeat our order.

I usually love love LOVE Max's but today everyone's been a little off. Maybe it's because it's a weekday and we were the only customers there.

So MC was craving for Sinigang and we ended up going to Max's. We ordered the Sinigang na Salmon, Gambas and Garlic Fried Rice.

The server assigned to us wasn't really too happy about serving us, he seemed annoyed that we kept on asking for water during the duration of our (early) dinner.

The food wasn't that satisfying today. For some reason the Salmon parts that was in the soup was mostly the fats of the fish, the only slap of meat was probably a spoonful. The gambas was the saddest part of our dinner. 9 pieces of tiny shrimp for P300+ I knew we should've chosen the pinakbet or kare-kare instead. 128532

Oh well, you win some. You lose some. 128566

One very filling side dish that goes well with Max's chicken is their adobong kangkong stuffed tofu. We do love Max's sizzling tofu but we opted to try this for a change.

The tofu served with the adobong kangkong is premium soft - not the usual tokwa that's usually makunat. This is essentially the same good tofu they use in their sizzling tofu but with bigger slices and less umay factor perhaps due to lesser oil. This tofu dish comes with mushrooms, garlic, kangkong and oyster sauce, hence it is more on the sweet side, which makes it different than the saltier sizzling tofu.

At less than P200, this dish is really so good that it can easily satisfy one very hungry tofu lover like me, and can also be shared by 2 to 3 peeps as side dish.

Our order (beware this is long) a regular whole chicken, pata, tofu, pancit canton, ube creme and a pitcher of iced tea.

First time to try out their pata. Surprised it was a big part and not all bones! Worth the price.

The rest was also delicious. I'm happy all Max's branches have food that tastes the same.

Ps. My favorite is still the chicken.

This is one of the few Max's restaurants that come close to that authentic Max's experience. The place also feels very right. They serve good chicken, Sinigang, and Lumpiang Shanghai.
