Haven’t been to Max’s in ages. Feeling ko at least 3-5 years. We came in because the H wanted to try their ube panna cotta, which we admittedly enjoyed years ago.

The panna cotta was ok. It’s less creamy than I remember it, like did they add more water to the recipe? Tasted better when it first came out.

He also got a cup of brewed coffee and it came with a rock hard chocolate cookie made to resemble a macaron. Ugh. Sana caramel bar na lang

I brought in a McFlurry from the clown right across lang, which was fine with them.

This branch is always busy, but has it’s quiet moments after lunch. They have a big space and a function room.

Max's is a quintessential food stop for balikbayan relative and friends . Their fried chicken never really grows old on the Pinoy palate because attached to it are remnants and snippets of memories past.

Our Australian nephew left the Philippines when he was seven years old. Twenty one years later he still remembers the family dining at Max's and makes it a point to eat here whenever he is in town.

He usually orders Max's chicken with the option for fresh or fried lumpia and caramel bar. Having been to New Jersey a few days back as part of his 5 week grand vacay, he shared how different Max's chicken there compared to the chicken here. Nothing really beats the original.

Today me and the hubby wanted to try something different on top of the classic chicken-shanghai combo we usually order. So we tried their grilled bangus belly. Max's version used tomato and shallots to garnish the bangus belly . They then wrapped it in banana leaf before grilling. The result was a fragrant bangus (milk fish ) with the lingering aroma of grilled banana leaf. The tomato-onion garnish enhanced the flavor of the bangus belly. It looked pretty as well with its red color contrasting nicely with the green of the banana leaf. It was a bit overcooked but the tiyan ( stomach fat) part was still milky and rich .... delicious!

We also ordered sizzling tofu for everybody to share . With each mouthful of the tofu, I was trying to decipher by taste the ingredients that comprise the dish. I have a mind to replicate it at home seeing how the piggery and the handsome hubby loved it.

A pot of sinigang na baboy was the perfect foil for the creamy , sizzling tofu. The acidity of the soup hit the spot.

The 81 year old father in law was at home in Max being in familiar territory. Max's is a restaurant he knows and loves. It was not something he can not make heads nor tails of like most of the restaurants we go to this days.. No deconstructed menu , no pinoy fusion, no fancy schmancy sounding dishes here. It was just plain old Max's and its chicken. Simple and uncomplicated.

So overjoyed was he that he just pulled out his walled and paid the bill hahaha

The parents were feeling a bit nostalgic so we decided to dine here after a day of window shopping (with a little bit of purchase). Mom ordered the Fiesta Plate (Max's quarter fried chicken, fresh lumpiang ubod, rice, caramel bar and iced tea), me and Dad ordered the platter (Max's quarter fried chicken, pancit canton, rice/rolls, caramel bar and iced tea). The pancit canton on our order was so little, it was barely two spoonfuls of it. Bitin! If i can make a suggestion, just order the Basic meal and get a side order of Pancit Canton instead. At least you get a full serving of the pancit. Overall, the food was great, chicken parts are average in size, tasted good. The caramel bar is always a plus. Perfect way to end a meal.

Service is quick, water served upon request. Senior discounts honored. Bill was 954pesos, after discount came to 750+pesos! Thank you to their wonderful staff for returning our shopping bag after we left it at the table. She came running after us when we were already out of the restaurant! Recommended.

Reunited with my BFF after 20 yrs!128109 finally my high school BFF went to the Philippjnes after Christmas. Biglaan ang uwi ang biglaan ang meet up. It was a quick meet up at akala ko di nkme matutuloy.

We ate at Maxs SM Makati coz that was the nearest resto sa meeting place namin. I only have 1 hour to meet her coz I have some schedules din. Treat them merienda , got platter meal , basic , halo-halo and palabok. Wala daw Maxs sa kanila sa Florida so excited sila haha. The bill was so affordable . The service was fast too kahit madami customer 128077127831

Yey finally! Almost done with backlogs. 128514 Matagal ba ako o sadyang marami lang beses akong kumain sa labas? Haha. Anyway...

Had dinner at Max's after a long day pampering. 128522 128134128582

My mom and I had the combo meals. I got budget meal while mom had the chopsuey meal. Both have Max's chicken, rice, ice tea and the caramel bar. The difference is the 'add-ons'. I got macaroni salad while mom got chopsuey. Dad always orders his favorite spring rolls and spring rolls rice. Hahaha! Everything is spring roll. 128514

I also ordered their ube decadence. 128076128156 Look at that beauty. 128525 Never a failure. So good. Tho I noticed it gets smaller. The waitress was showing us their sale goodies. We got food for the goods. 128076 Pretty good too!

Service was fast enough.

Combo set meal! 128055128061128055128061128055128061

Their chicken never fails to bring out the piggy in me. I just love it! Jufran + worcestershire (whew!) sauce combination, panalo!

Their pancit was just bitin though. But the staff was really friendly.

Btw this is near Kultura, that store that sells Filipino goods, so every hour or so they perform filipino dance numbers outside their store. Something that your foreigner friends may like if they're jn the country. 128512

Adios! 128111

FOOD:

- Pancit canton- it was good but I hate that they didn't even bother removing the bones of the shredded chicken.

- Fried chicken- never fails 128077

- Adobong kangkong with tofu- yummy! The tofu cubes were huge and the sauce tastes great too. My sister who never ate veggies liked it 128521

- Lumpiang sariwa- it was for my dad. I never understood why people like fresh lumpiang ubod. Hehehe.

SERVICE: kinda slow! You need to keep on following up. 128530

Went to the restroom and it sucks that they didn't even bother putting the tissue roll in the dispenser. 128544

We all love the fried chicken here at Max's but if you're not craving for their famous fowl, try the Sizzling Tofu instead. Good to share up to 4 people, the sizzling plate came with a heap of cubed tofus, minced onions, and slices of bell peppers. Topped with a solo siling labuyo, the sizzling tofu came slathered with mayonnaise. Be warned though that few spoonfuls of this viand will make you feel umay, so make sure to pair this with another ulam. It's so tasty good you won't feel you're eating something as healthy as tofu!
