If there is one thing that can get me out of a long hiatus from reviewing, it's Ramen. Much more if it's a New Secret Menu Item! A little birdie whispered to me there was such and was highly recommended by Elbert. 128561

But...

It pains me to make another review of Mendokoro since I don't want to add fuel to the fire so intense that craving for a bowl of their ramen will take you at least an hour of wait even past 9pm 128557. It has come to the point that whenever I had a craving (which was everyday 128514) the place is jam packed with people waiting sitting at the sidewalk. I just had to go somewhere else for my Ramen Fix. Somewhere secret that I won't tell anymore 🤐

But wait there's more!

There is still hope in Mendokoro.. I call it the Magic Hour. Come in at this time and you will find a quiet Mendokoro to enjoy your bowl of heaven. 128513

But then again when I arrived it turned out that the secret-off-the-menu item was in the Menu all along. I didn't bother to try it all these years, hell, I didn't even bat an eye. 128514 but now I have a reason to. 128522

127836 Hiyashi TanTanMen 127836
or Cold TanTanMen with Grilled Tofu 128525
I was glad this got suggested to me. On a hot afternoon after a long drive through traffic, the cold tantanmen soup hits the spot! Not even a slight hesitation to slurp the noodles as well because it gives a cooling soothing feeling. Looking out the window while doing so is like lifting your middle finger to the harsh climate outside 9996128514.

The grilled tofu was a revelation! Sooo good! It has a smooth chewy texture to it like spam but less the salt. I would prefer this over chashu on my usual bowl of Garlic Ramen from time to time to even out the saltiness if they would allow it. (I forgot to ask the staff if they would). 🤔

I was having the best Thursday of 2017 and was debating whether I should just go home and get my well deserved sleep OR!! Cap it off with my favorite comfort food. Ramen! Well we don't need to guess which won!

One of the infamous places to get the japanese noodle soup in the Metro, Mendokoro Ramenba has earned its name through its delicious ramen, cozy ambiance, and good service. Also, the place was packed since it was around dinner time. A testament to how awesome their ramen is!

Tonkotsu Miso Ramen - My go to choice in any ramen joint. Miso. I noticed not a lot of people ordered this! Also, threw in Aji Tamago's cuz why not! It. Was. So. GOOD! I was kinda surprised it had ground pork on one side and cube sliced pork on the other. The grounded one kinda had a sisig taste! I wish there was more of it. The cubed version I just wanted to eat it all day long! It was tender and flavorful! The bean sprouts and bamboo shoots just accentuated the already amazing dish with its texture and distinct taste. Noodles were also chewy al dente! But of all the components, the broth deserves the highest of praises for embodying ramen fit for the deities themselves! It was creamy, flavorful, had the right amount of saltines and umami. Plus! They added a bit of spiciness on the side for those who want their 'kick' on their soup. I was slurping all meal long!

Definitely going back here to taste their other ramen! Shio, shoyu and tantanmen! Their best sellers! Also, their gyoza. Maybe just everything from their menu haha

Despite a very hectic schedule, we decided to bond over food and have chosen to dine at Mendokoro Ramen. I tried Shoyu Ramen while my friends had Super Chasiu and Tantanmien. The broth is one of the lightest milky broth that I have tried. I am glad that this one does not have that heavy pork taste. The Chasiu was also quite a surprise - it melts in your mouth.

Still the standard by which I measure all ramen - this and Ippudo.

My sortof cousin/former housemate Sarah A messaged me out of the blue, said she was curious and wanted to try. I agreed right away, even if we passed on UDD that night 128557. I haven't gone here in a while and I'm just waiting for a good excuse.

Marc M had warned me of the longer lines, but I only believed him when I saw it for myself that night. It was already past 9 and there were a few people ahead of us in line. The bar was packed! But the turnover was pretty quick - I think we only waited for half an hour before we were seated.

I ordered my usual Shoyu and Sarah ordered Tantanmen, plus an order of Tamago each, gyoza and extra chashu. Maybe if I had only the ramen and egg, I might have gotten to finish them all off. But I had forgotten how rich the chashu was, and it was probably one of the reasons I subconsciously try to space out my visits here. That thing is lethal! But on the other hand, it brings so much happiness 128517

So, be warned. Chashu is great if shared, and if you have only a few other orders besides. And, don't bother with the extra chashu if you ordered a Super Chashu bowl (secret menu item) in the first place. Since Mendokoro doesn't do take out, it'll be a shame if you didn't eat it all.

The best ramen I've had so far!
They say that people usually line up for a couple of minutes before they get served but I think I was lucky enough because there were vacant seats available when my friend and I went there. The place is just small that it could only occupy less than 30 customers at a time.
I ordered Shoyu. The richness and thickness of the soup is just right and not "nakakaumay." The chashu was thick and I must say I got surprised when I took a bite because it literally melted in my mouth! The serving was just right, not too big for me. My friend ordered Tantanmen (sorry I don't have a picture) and I think I like it better! So I think I'll come back for it. Not too spicy, just right for my taste buds.

I consider their shoyu ramen as the type of comfort food that you eat right after a struggling week or a draining day. It will surely turn your mood. Im not a ramen person but this is the most delicious ramen that I've tried so far. However, the taste can be overwhelming because of the creaminess as well as the chashu that melts on your mouth. Overall, I will still give it a perfect score because Mendokoro deserves it. I recommend going here at around 9:30pm onwards if you want to avoid lining up.

Beyond the 23-limited seat capacity and almost an hour of waiting, their Shoyu Ramen was still worth all the #Hangry moments while in line.

How I wish they'd expand already!128591🏻128553 (St. Jude Thaddeus pray for us)

Funny because it's not the first time I waited in line and didn't encounter a couple or a family having their #Hangry moments 128548128545, barely giving up before dining. I think the "nabayaran na" factor is a big motivator to wait tho 128533 LOL.

I've never been to Japan but my mom said even the best Ramen establishments there would not make customers wait for an hour or more.

But still...I love their Ramen 10084127836

Since I joined looloo, one of the restaurants I've been wanting to visit (because of the good reviews everywhere) and review, is Mendokoro Ramenba. We were initially saving this for one of our foodtrips once the rainy season comes, but I honestly can't wait any longer! Today, I finally tried this talk-of-the-town ramen place, and it did not disappoint! 12807610084

I went to Makati today to have an early dinner with Josh and his colleague, A. He suggested that we try this place, since he learned that A also likes Japanese food. Also, he was able to bring his car to work today, so it will be easier for us to get there. I may have been too enthusiastic when I said yes to this invitation, though. 128513

We met up at around 5 pm, after they got out from work. We were actually surprised that there was a heavier traffic than what we'd expect on a Sunday, but that's because of the Art in the Park event nearby. We got there at around 5:30pm, queued to place our orders, then waited outside. I love how efficient their queueing system is! Even if their place just has a 20+ seater U-shaped table, the seat turnover is quite fast so you don't have to wait that long if you came here a bit earlier (AKA not during the rush hours of lunch and dinner). We were seated after around 20 minutes of waiting time.

Once seated, we gave our order tickets to the server. While waiting, you can watch how the food is being cooked, so you'll know that they're really freshly made.

I got Shoyu Tonkotsu Ramen and Aji Tamago, Josh chose the Tokusei Tsukemen and got Aji Tamago as well, and A ordered Tantanmen. We also ordered their gyoza.

✔ SHOYU TONKOTSU RAMEN (Php 410) - 1108811088110881108811088
W-O-W. That was all I could say when my bowl of happiness was served. And it was still all I can say when I took my first slurp of the thick, creamy broth. 128525 I loved how all the components of this dish worked together to make it so delicious! The creamy soup was so flavorful, and it was piping hot, just the way I like it. The noodles were al dente, really delightful to eat and slurp. The chashu was so delicious: juicy, flavorful, and oh so tender! I loved the grill marks on it, too. 128513 Make sure to eat this quickly and with equal proportions of noodles and soup in each spoonful, as the umay factor will start to manifest once you let the soup cool down a bit, or when you down lots of it as is without the noodles.

✔ AJI TAMAGO (Php 90) - 1108811088110881108811088
Make sure to order this if you have an extra budget. The egg is perfectly cooked, and is a great item to pair your noodles with. You can eat it with some of your ramen's broth, too!

✔ TOKUSEI TSUKEMEN (Php 470) - 11088110881108811088
The broth and noodles for the tsukemen are served separately, and you will be the one to dip your noodles in the hot soup. I tried tasting this too, just for comparison. The taste of the bonito is very evident in the broth, I felt like I was eating takoyaki. 128584 The creaminess and umami taste was there, but Josh said that he soon realized that aside from the umami taste, there wasn't much depth to the broth's flavor. He still liked it a lot though, and said that he likes this more than my Shoyu Ramen.

✔ GYOZA (Php 200 for 5 pcs) - 1108811088110881108811088
Josh is not a gyoza fan, but he loved it, so it must be really good! Their version is a bit crunchy on the outside, but when you bite into it, you will be greeted by great flavors from the meat inside. The meat is juicy and cooked really well. The portion size is just enough, so you don't have to worry about the filling spilling all out. Make sure to eat this while hot, as the taste of the oil might be a bit prominent once it has been left to cool down.

I wasn't able to try the Tantanmen, but A said that it was good; however, the soup was a bit too creamy for his liking.

Service is generally good, and the servers are courteous and friendly. The ambiance is great, the concept of seeing your food cooked there in front of your eyes is also a very welcome innovation. 128077 It was a bit warm inside though, so make sure to wear comfortable clothes! 128513

Now I know why people hail Mendokoro Ramenba as one of the best ramen joints in town: because it really is! 127836

The best ramen I ever tasted. I never thought that ramen can be this good - very rich and flavorful. My first and second ramen experience didn't give me the feeling of wanting it more but this one did! A must try.

Ramen is 10084️.

I've always wondered why people tag Mendokoro as the best ramen place in the metro, so I know I have to find it out for myself.

Unlike other ramen joints wherein you take your seat, place an order, eat your ramen and pay for your bill, Mendokoro's ordering system has a fast-food style approach wherein you order and pay at the counter, find a seat at their 22-seater U-shaped table, hand your order slip to the attendant and wait for your order to come.

While waiting, you get to see how the cooks prepare your ramen and other items right in front of you. How cool is that?

Anyway, I ordered Shoyu ramen and Gyoza. Let's talk about the Gyoza first. They serve 5 big pieces of Gyoza. The wrapper is of the right thickness, just enough to keep the filling inside. It has a meaty and gingery taste to it which I find really good.

Now the ramen. Good lord!!! This bowl is so delicious! No doubt it's one of the best!!! The broth is milky smooth and gives off a garlicy aroma. You will definitely taste the rich, meaty broth. The noodles are cooked al dente, which gives you that nice bite to it. The grilled pork just melts in your mouth. This is too good!!!

I am now a believer. Mendokoro is one of the best ramens in the metro!

I went with the Super Chashu still since I wasn’t up for seafood yet.

You really can’t go wrong with this choice. It will keep you full so you need to walk it off after eating. 128099

Remember to take out the chili if you’re not a fan of spicy food because biting into one of these little monsters will hurt.🌶

I always see my brother post this on his ig. One night, while waiting for the shuttle, biglang nagkayayaan haha! So I was finally able to try Mendokoro Ramenba! #ooramennga! Hehe!

The place was very nice! It was like Sosyal na Paresan pero ramen naman yung main menu imbes na pares kasi paikot yung upuan nila.

Super daming tao on a Thursday Night ah. Pang 6th group kami sa pila. We paid the bill first then they called us nung may vacant seat na. Very accommodating naman yung crew.

Shoyu daw masarap sabi ng kuya ko so yun yung inorder namin. I really liked it! Solid! Lalo na yung chasu! Yung first bite sa chasu is 10084. Ang sarap ng taba ng chasu tska mas luto sya compared sa ibang ramen place. Napaisip ako kung oorder pa ba ko ng extra chasu haha! Pwede! Next time 128077🏼 I like the soup, di masyadong maalat when you eat with the noodles. Medyo thick yung noodles. 128077🏻

P410 ang isang order ng shoyu tapos nag order din kami ng 5pcs. Gyoza, P200. For me, okay lang yung gyoza. Pero masarap naman tska madaming laman sa loob. 128522

Gusto ko na ulit kumain dito! Haha! Ano pa bang masarap bukod sa tantanmen? kasi di ko keri yung super anghang 128522

Ebi Tonkotsu makes it's way from Yushoken to Mendokoro. What was once a Limited Monday Only bowl of ramen in Yushoken is now available in Mendokoro DAILY but for only 10 bowls a day. When I got there at 2pm my bowl was already the 8th. I guess it's not too secret from fellow ramen addicts after all 128513.

Seafood Ramen with a very rich Shrimp flavor. It has Shrimps, Squid, Scallops, Kani Sticks, the works! It's not spicy until you breakdown that stick of chili (I removed mine and requested for crushed garlic instead. PANALO! The garlic enhanced the shrimp flavor even further! 128525).

Shrimp Lovers will definitely LOVE this! 128077128077128077

P.S. Paano ko ba paaabutin ng 1,000 characters ang pagdescribe sa isang bowl ng Ramen?! 128514128514128514 Abot kaya ito? I didn't check though. 9996128513
