Late FamBam dindin last night at Modern Shanghai! I was surprised that Sunday is a busy day for them considering its about past 8 already. As there are still queues outside. It's a good thing we are just 4, making it quick for us to be seated. (Downside, we were seated near the door) 128528128528128528

We got:

127860 Doubled Boiled Chicken Soup(not in the picture) - broth was piping hot. Upon taking a sip you can really say it's packed with flavors! However, serving size was a bit small for me considering the price..this is just a 11088️11088️11088️ for taste

127860 Sweet and Sour Chicken - a favorite dish of my mom so it's a default dish! The meat is very tender and the coating/batter is just right! The sauce was 128077🏻, not too sweet not too sour. It has a balance of flavors! This dish is a 11088️11088️11088️11088️ for me

127860 Sliced US Beef with Broccoli - this is a 128523 dish!! The beef is cooked perfectly, very tender! It has loads of flavors too! However, I feel it's a bit expensive considering the serving size. They skimp on the other ingredients like the broccoli (it appears like 2 broccoli florets were sliced into 4 to make it look plenty). 128529128529128529 For the taste its 411088️ for me however overall it just a 11088️11088️ for me because of the serving size vs. the price. It cost over 600+PHP!

127860 Birthday Noodles - an all time favorite of mine! (Expect this dish to be in every MS review that I make!128513) It's delish, flavor is 128077🏻128077🏻 and they didn't scrimp on the ingredients! It's a solid 11088️11088️11088️11088️ for me!

127860 Yang Chow - it's good, nothing too special about the dish. What I like about this is the rice they used! Even with out ulam it fine already! A 11088️11088️11088️1/2 for this.

Overall, our dinning experience was 128077🏻128077🏻! Service was good. Despite the resto is full, orders came in quick! Servers were very attentive and checks on our table every-now and then! It's a 11088️11088️11088️11088️ for this visit!

Just a 128221, bistro group's service most of the time is a 128077🏻128077🏻! For this visit, we had some items we bought and accidentally left some if the bags. One of the staff ran after us and chase us all the way down the escalator just to hand us over our things! 128079🏻128079🏻128079🏻

I had an impromptu meet up with a friend last night. Both of us craved for dim sum so we ended up at Modern Shanghai!

This is my first review. Though, I've been to this place several times! I 128156 their food although prices are a tad higher than most Chinese restaurants.

We got the famous Xiao Long Bao, Steamed Buns with Preserved 127859 Yolk, and Birthday Noodles! 128513

127860 XLB - need I say more? This broth filled dumpling is 128525. The wrapper is just right as it was firm enough to hold the meat and broth. Upon biting the wrapper and took a sip of the broth a burst of flavor will pop out! The meat is packed with flavor and the ginger/vinegar dipping sauce compliments with meat. This is a solid 11088️11088️11088️11088️ for me!

127860 Steamed Buns with Preserved Egg Yolk Paste - (this is a sweet/savory dish) It's my first time to try this dish and it's deeelisshhh!!! Looking at the picture it seemed like an ordinary Steamed Bun, but after you take the first bite or cut the bun in half, the yellow creamy filling will spill out. An early 128221, best to eat it while its hot and have a plate as the filling will literally ooze out. The bun is firm yet moist, taste is 128076🏻 not bland nor too sweet. As for the filling, it was 128523. The savory taste of the yolk is just right balancing with the creaminess of the sweet milk. This dish is a 11088️11088️11088️11088️ for me.

127860 Birthday Noodles - This noodle dish is 128523!
Serving portion for me was just right and MS didn't skimp back on the ingredients. The noodles were cooked perfectly and as you take a bite, the firmness is still there yet soft. Usually when I eat noodles, it's a default to have a dipping sauce compromising of soy sauce, calamansi, and chilli, but this dish didn't need it. The savory sauce alone was good and goes well with the rest of the ingredients! I just added a dash of chilli for some heat! 128521 This is a 11088️11088️11088️11088️ for me!

Service and ambiance is just 128076🏻. It's too bad MS cut down the space making the resto look crowded. I loved the interiors before but after limiting the space, for me it lost it's luster and ambiance of a modern-upscale Chinese Restaurant.

The food is a solid 11088️11088️11088️11088️ for me however, for my overall rating it's just a 11088️11088️11088️1/2 for because of the ambiance and resto set-up.

Just some 128221s to guide first time diners, as I mentioned prices are a tad higher than the usual Chinese joint, it saves a lot if you have a Bistro card as you get a 20% off. Much better during Mondays as they offer a 30% discount. A must try from my previous visits, Sweet & Sour Chicken and the Beef with Broccoli or Sliced Beef with Scallions!

After my meeting with colleagues in Makati, I craved for Chinese Noodle Soup, since I got my Premium Bistro Card and Discount Voucher, I decided to eat at Modern Shanghai Restaurant located at the 3rd Floor of Glorietta 2, Ayala Mall, Makati City. 127836127886

Noodle with Double-boiled Chicken Soup - 11088️11088️11088️11088️ 4/5

Our Signature Xiao Long Bao - 11088️11088️11088️11088️11088️ 5/5

Very good service. The pricepoints are higher than your typical chinese resto but since I have a bistro card, I saved a lot.

Ordered the ff:
Xiao long bao Php228 (6pcs) - i think this is value for your money. 128077🏼
Steamed bun salted egg Php 158 (3 pcs) - my favorite! 128077🏼
Yang Chow Php288 - it can be bitin for 2 pax.
Fried Spareribs Php398 - If I can have it my way, I'd order something else. I think it's pricey for this dish but it actually tastes good.

I got 30% off the bill using bistro card since it's a Monday + I used my Php250 GC. For everything I only paid Php545 + tip. :)

First off, #12days 128540
Okay so first, the place.. Well, it isnt that super awesome ambiance i will tell you. I understand that we dined in during peak hours so maybe thats why our place wasnt all that comfortable (as you can see in the pic, we are already there right after you open their glass door 128541) and we've had better service somewhere else.

Now the foods!!!!
*Xiao long bao - yes! Take our money again some time eh 128184128184128184 at php288 its really worth it.
*String beans with minced pork and chili php258 - just cooked to perfection! Not too oily/saucy, its a big thumbs up 128077🏼 for me!
*Birthday noodles and Yangchow! - its always a feast when these are around 127881 their serving is just right for sharing, id say its one of the top3 I've tried.
*Deep fried squid w/ spicy salt and pepper - ive read that this is good in most reviews and yep it will not disappoint! The taste is not flat at all.
Now the only not-so-awesome that we had was their deep fried hk chicken. We ordered 1/4 only as it is almost php500 per serving (just to try). But when it arrived we all shared the same sentiment: its not worth the price at all. Serving portion is of course just 1 quarter but this is really not what we expected at all. (Sorry!)
Would i come back!? Yes probably. But we will not order the chicken 128513128518

Chinese food is one of the things i have in the bottom part of my "what makes me happy" list. I don't know why I don't enjoy Chinese food that much considering my roots are chinese. We ate at modern shanghai and asked my aunt "whythehell" but she just said "oh well chai *points to her drink*... Niece *points at me then laugh*" i want to laugh but.. Ugh gotta enjoy the food.
I don't know what the hell are those things so I grabbed the yang chao rice (i was about to type chao fan 128514128514) and the sweet and sour chicken (my all time favorite that can be ordered here). Aside from the sour pineapple, I liked how the chicken is chsjcbdjxs well marinated. Idk, but the flavor seem stuck in the cells of the chicken. I finished about half of the rice platter because the sweet and sour chicken is sooo yummeh.
Another thing I tried is the... Uhm xiao lung bao. (Lol idk if that's the spelling i just asked my aunt about it) It was juicy. The juiciest dumpling i've tried. When i gave it a bite, there were something that just burst from the dumpling. But it was delicious for a reason i don't really know.
Service is great, and by great I mean meron silang waiter na kamukha ni Yael. Hahahaha Crews and staffs were accommodating and approachable.

Tried their signature shanghai fried noodle (a little bland for my liking), xiao long bao (good portions and really good), hakaw (portions too small), sweet and sour pork, and their watermelon kick drink. Always a sucker for chinese food and dimsum.

Ahhhhhhhh, should have reviewed this before the gilas game last night so I wouldn't feel guilty saying I loooove and enjoy Chinese food!! Now, I hate chinese food!!!! hahahahaha 128541128514128523

Last thursday night my family and I had dinner here. We were supposed to eat somewhere else but there's really something about Chinese food and old people! 128517

On weekdays, they offer Bundle Deals (598pesos) good for sharing. You get 2 main dishes, 1 order of XLB (6pcs), and 2 cups of fried rice. We also added an order of one Birthday Noodles (295 pesos).

Salt and Pepper Squid
This was good and tasty!! The squid was fried perfectly -- the breading was not too thick and the squid was soft and not rubbery.

Braised Beancurd with Minced Pork in Chili Bean Sauce
Most of the time, I like my tofu fried and not like this, soft and weird. 128518 But this is one of those rare moments I enjoy the soft and weird kind. This was good and addicting! It had the right level of spiciness but it was even better when you add chili sauce to it!! 128077🏼

Xiao Long Bao
Ahhhhhhh, dimsum!! The XLB here are bigger than the usual dimsum size. It's good and tasty! The wrapper's not too thick nor thin that it breaks when you get it. This was good but not the best. 128513

Fried Rice
Flavorful rice that's too hard to resist! Mas masarap talaga kumain with rice!! 128518

Birthday Noodles
Ahhhh this was another favorite!! Loaded with veggies, mushrooms, shrimps, pork asado?, liver, and quail eggs!!! Sarap!!! 128077🏼

Service was excellent. Hands on and the servers were very attentive and helpful. The place is clean and very chinese-y? 128517

Was tempted to get the Bistro card. But is it really worth it? 128563

I'd like to thank looloo and the Bistro group for sponsoring our meal! 128517 (perks of being a frequent reviewer 128541)

We got a sweet and sour chicken set valued at 495 for free!! If ever we'll be paying for our meal, I can still say that it's "sulit" because it is already a "3 course meal" and it is good for two.

- xiao long bao
- tofu
- rice
- sweet and sour pork

The only thing we paid for was the SC and their "shanghai lily" specialty drink which I highly recommend128512

In the picture:
Crispy Noodles
Beef with Broccoli
Yang Chao

Not in the picture:
Deep Fried Squid w/ Salt & Pepper
Deep Fried Chicken
Mapo Tofu
Sweet & Sour Pork

Everything tasted great, it's just that most of the dishes were a tad bit too greasy and the beef was quite fibrous and could be more tender.

This Modern Shanghai Clay Pot Tofu (Php348.00) is perfect for lent!

Inspired by Southern China’s masterful clay pot cooking using only the freshest ingredients – Tofu, Bok Choy and Shrimps, my 3 fave elements in one incredible dish. Nice balance between the sauce and the ingredients. The sauce has a nice solid flavor, too. Thumbs up! 127858

Modern Shanghai's Birthday Noodles (Php298.00)

I am a huge noodle eater! For me, any noodle dish is comfort food. Modern Shanghai did not scrimp on the ingredients, the vegetables retained its crunch and the noodles were cooked properly with a very savory sauce. Take one bite and you’ll agree. Dee-lee-cious!

Really good xiao long bao! better than Shi Lin's, I must say. Other good dimsum options: hakaw and chicken feet. Really happy with the food and service.

I had a hard time choosing between Chinese or Korean for dinner, but apparently, Modern Shanghai already shares their space with another Bistro Group restaurant, Bulgogi Brothers. After looking through the latter's menu, we figured we'd stick with Modern Shanghai instead.

Ramon L and I ordered the Steamed Shrimp and Pork "Siu Mai" (Php 198), Steamed Chicken Feet (Php 108), Soup Noodles with Braised Beef in Brown Sauce (Php 288), and the Soy Chicken with Rice (Quarter, Php 258).

The Siu Mai was okay, as I've already come to expect following my previous visits here. It was plump but I thought it lacked flavor. The Chicken Feet is a favorite here. I never did like eating Chicken Feet because it looks ugly (admit it), and it just has too many small bones. I just can't get enough of Modern Shanghai's, though, I eat it with gusto despite the difficulty!

We were waiting for our meals for quite a while, and I didn't know whether to follow up or keep waiting patiently. When Mon's noodles finally arrived, I told him to eat ahead (partly because I was hungry and wanted to try his noodles already!). His noodles were pretty good! The broth was flavorful, and the noodles were firm but chewy. The braised beef was really tender, too, and it soaked up the flavor of the broth really well. After 20 minutes of waiting, I finally decided to follow it up, only to be told that there was a mix up with the ordering in the kitchen.

The waitress was really sorry, so I just cancelled the order and told her that it was okay. Anyway, I was so full from what we had already that my follow up was more of a request to have it to go, so I guess it was a good thing after all. Next time, I'll be sure to try Bulgogi Brothers.

They say Modern Shanghai's xiao long bao is the best. Hmm yes, it was good but Lugang Cafe still remains number one on my list. The minced meat was wrapped in a thin flour wrapper and served steaming hot. It looked bigger than Lugang's but it was not that soupy. It doesn't break when you pick it up using your chopsticks so that is a plus. Tastewise, Lugang still wins.

They share a space with Bulgogi Brothers so you can order from both restaurants.

Service was awesome.128522 Very attentive and accommodating crew!

Xiao Long Bao was good.

Been wanting to go to this place because of their Xiao Long Bao. However, I wasn't quite impressed. The price is okay (around 200 per 6 pcs). Their dumplings have more soup in it compared to the ones that I've tried so far but the meat wasn't something special. I'd give it a 3.5/5.

MS redeemed itself because of the Double Boiled Chicken Soup with Noodles. Because I'm such a fan of basic flavors, I fell in love with the simplicity of this dish. Simple yet very flavorful. This has to be the best chicken broth I've ever tasted! If you're looking for a good meal but you want to take a break from all the food flavor party, this is perfect. Will definitely keep on coming back to this place :) Comfort food <3
