Moe's September 2017 Review

I've eaten in a lot of "Mexican" restaurants in the Metro and I always thougiht Moe's was the closest to my beloved SoCal Mexican food (made by actual Mexicans). We came back discovering the line for ordering wasn't done anymore and people were seated to give their orders. NO MORE SALSA BAR EITHER. Quality has deteriorated. We ordered for Quesadillas and a burrito. We waited for a good 20 to 30 minutes for our order to arrive. The wait was extra long no doubt. Then our order arrived. Apparently the server wasn't paying attention and she gave us the 300+ combo plate that had smaller versions of the burrito and quesadillas in one plate. We then asked for them to fulfill our order for the normal burrito and quesadillas. They promptly served to correct the mistake to be fair but yeah we had to pay an extra 300 for the mistake because we were so hungry we took bites from the combo plate only to realize it wasn't what was supposed to arrive on our table. There's less protein and meat now and THEY STUFF IN SO MUCH RICE AND TAKE A LOOK AT THE "QUESADILLA" WHAT A RIP OFF. QUESAFOOLYA 128517

Quick snack at Moe's last Sunday. I tried their Tacos (solo for P130), i got the aoft shell. Served with Salsa and Nachos. Taco is quite small, it has generous filling. And saw their cocktails at cheaper prices, I tried their mojito for P75. Its okay and quite strong.

Cheap and super heavy! I got their pork belly and my was it satisfying... under the Bistro group so you know it's definitely good. For less than P300, it was definitely a tasty plate 128076

Not the best Tex-Mex considering the area that it's situated in.

Ordered their 2 best sellers:
1.) The steak burrito, which was extremely expensive for something that's sized as the new Coke cans. Taste could use some improvement by making the meat the star instead of trying to mask everything with their sour (lime like) flavored rice offering.

2.) Chicken Fajita, which was even sadder since all we got was a rather meager serving of chicken and over cooked onions and bell peppers.

If you're in BGC and craving for Mexican, opt for either Chihuahua or Gringo. You'll get a better money's worth and a way better rendition (and taste) of a steak burrito.

There are so many restaurants in Uptown Mall that I haven't tried. I love Mexican food and too satisfy my craving for tacos and quesedilla, I decided to try Moe's.

STEAK and CHICKEN QUESEDILLA (PHP325)
You get three free add ons for this. Since they have 12 choices, I took me awhile to decide. I chose what I thought would make sense so I got pico de gallo, queso sauce and diced tomato. It also came with some tortilla on the side. It was a WOW moment for me at first bite. Very cheesy and thick. The tomatoes and pico de gallo brought that fresh element in every bite. Chunks of chicken and steak were delicious and it's good that they didn't put too much meat or it will taste like shawarma. 128514

TACOS
I forgot the price of the pork tacos I think around PHP175. I always go for hard shell tacos because I like it crisp. For my three free add ons, I got chipotle ranch, pico de gallo and queso sauce. The taco shells were indeed crisp and delicious. I hope they put more pork meat because I think it was too few and drowned because of the complements.

5 stars for Moe's food but the order process sucks. You expect more from the Bistro Group when it comes to service. I also think they lack manpower. Yung cashier ng pprep na ng food.

Tried their Chicken Burrito this time and I like it better than beef (this is a regular size burrito). I enjoyed the unli salsa bar (esp the roasted tomatoes and garlic salsa). Next time I'll try their Home-wrecker (steak) burrito. It comes with free chips ( btw their chips is 10084️).

I actually thought this would come with at least two tacos, but the PhP135 for ground beef comes with a taco and free chips with salsa. I chose three add-ons to come with it, lettuce, sour cream and grilled mushroom. It was actually good, coming from a non-fan of tacos. To make it a meal, just add PhP95 and you'll get the tamarind juice and queso.

Months have passed since my friends and I have tried Moe's. We were going to watch Dory on the big screen with our inaanak but the ninangs and the mommy needed to chat beforehand. So off to Moe's we went...

Moe's is another Bistro Group restaurant and another international franchise flown in from the US. It had a casual, cantina atmosphere. We all ordered different menu items and shared a bowl of beef nachos. I tried the steak burrito, which was served with tortilla chips on the side. The add-ons for my burrito included sour cream, pico de gallo, corn, lettuce, and jalapenos. No black beans please! I enjoyed the burrito, which was pretty hefty in size. Loved the flavors! We also enjoyed the unlimited salsa bar on the side--I loved this touch. Different flavors included the Kaiser salsa, Mango salsa, roasted tomato and garlic salsa, roasted corn and black bean salsa (the one I enjoyed the most), and the Hard Rock & Roll salsa (which I did not try because of the spicy warning). We all enjoyed this restaurant and I would love to come back for their burrito bowl.

One thing we did not enjoy were the flies-- a problem of all al fresco restaurants of Uptown Mall. The staff laid out candles but this didn't quite solve the problem.

P.S.
The only pic I could find amidst all the backlogs was the one with my friend's chicken burrito...

DIY burrito. Liked their steak burrito, it was awesome especially because of the concept that I can choose its add-ons.

A unique Tex-mex resto serving burritos, tacos, salads, rice bowls, fajitas, etc that you can customize yourself by choosing your own add-ons. Most meals come with free nacho chips and unli salsas, too. Truly a fun way to dine! Loved their chicken rice bowl with a glass of their refreshing tamarind ice tea. 128077🏻128077🏻128077🏻

I was excited to try this place out but sadly, it was not as impressing as "expected". Nothing special or extraordinary. We enjoyed the unli salsa, though. Especially the one with Mangoes. Serving size was huge and can be shared.

We weren't able to finish everything and had to bring it home. We were planning to ask for extra salsa but boo because according to the server, you can't ask for extra salsa. Uhm, OKAY. 128563128530

I don't know if I just went on a bad day, but I really didn't enjoy my visit here. 128575 Or maybe because I had high expectations because I have loved every restaurant that opened in Uptown Place. But I really didn't like it here. Silantro pa din, hands down.

Everything we had was far away from the Mexican flavor I was expecting. The quesadilla was bland while the nachos were just salty. The burrito was ok, but nothing extraordinary. Or maybe I should have ordered their tacos? Ewan. Basta di ko nagustuhan. 128575

Plus there was a leak from their a/c so meh. 128575 plus their food is not cheap a.

What I loved from their menu and which is why I am giving 2 stars is heir Tamarind Iced Tea! OMG ansarap! 128571128571128571

I'd probably come back for the Tamarind Iced Tea and for their Php 99 chicken burrito next time... but it'll be a long time for sure. 128569

After lunch at Munchtown, I headed to Moe's Southwest Grill.

Moe's is located at the fourth floor of Uptown Mall where other Bistro Group restaurants are situated. Seeing Moe's for the first time with other three Bistro Group restaurants on the same floor looks cool. The interior set up of Moe's is bright and spacious, it's like you are eating at the Food Hall. 🌯

At the counter, I order a Junior Size Chicken Burrito for P195.00. Sadly, they don't honor the Bistro Card here. 128532

I choose my five free add-ons for my Chicken Burrito... Pico de Gallo, Queso Sauce, Lettuce, Shredded Cheese and Grilled Mushroom. I've waited for about 5 minutes when my burrito arrived served with nacho chips that you can choose any of the five sauce at the Salsa Area. The sauces are Hard Rock & Roll Sauce (Spicy), Roasted Tomato & Garlic Salsa, Kaiser Salsa, Mango Salsa and Roasted Corn & Blackbean Salsa. My favorite is the Mango Salsa. 🌯

Definitely, I will going back again to try the tacos. 🌮

Moe’s is as most of you already know a new concept brought in By the Bistro group that has over the years brought in successful franchises such as Italiannis, Bulgogi brothers and more. Moe’s is another American franchise that specializes in Tex -Mex food such as tacos, Buritos and salsas. Recently this type of Mexican concept has been very popular among people in Manila. We have seen restaurants like El Chupacabra, Silantro and others open up the last couple of years with some of them being more successful than others. Worth mentioning is that I have never tried out Moe’s before. Actually I have never heard about it until they recently opened up in Uptown Mall in BGC. This despite being a very big and famous chain in The USA.

I am having a late lunch on a Sunday afternoon at around 2 PM. The place is jam-packed with mostly families celebrating Father’s day. I have to line up for quite a while. Actually more than half an hour in order to place my order. However, this does not bother me so much as I have good insight to the kitchen and the prep area so I can see that all the food is freshly made for me just as I order it. There is a lady taking the orders by filling up an order sheet. She gives it back to me and I pass it on to the counter and this sheet is “following” my order all the way to the cashier a few meters further down the line. The food itself that I order is made in about 3 to 4 minutes so I have nothing to complain about there. I quickly pay my order and bring my tray to the table to sit down.

First I try the Nachos with the Special Cheese sauce. Nothing special with this. Here you have deep fried nacho chips served in a paper lined plastic basket with a paper cup of the famous cheese sauce. What makes this sauce famous beats me. It tastes like watered down Cheese whiz from Kraft, without the orange color. Maybe I am expecting more of a chain like Moe’s that according to the write ups in the Inquirer is better than Chipotle, another “American – Mexican” restaurant that is yet to come to The Philippines.

I also have their best seller, the Burrito. This is also not really a disappointment but I guess that I am expecting more. I get about 200 grams of southwest rice, about 100 grams of ground beef, some tomatoes, cucumber, lettuce and “Pico de Gallo” or salsa. By the way I also add steak to this as an additional. This is cubes of actual very tasty beef that has been fried on a griddle until perfect pink in the middle. Why they keep it warm in a Gastronorm container in a Bain Marie beats me. Of course when I eat it, the meat is more boiled than fried and the juicy pinkness of the beef is long gone.

There is a counter with different types of salsas and other condiments where the costumers can help themselves. Here the management of Moe’s has a challenge to keep these items fresh. During my visit there is a problem with flies in the dining area and especially where the salsa station is.

I am not really keen on going back to Moe’s in the near future. This is Mexican or better described Tex-Mex fast food and it does not really excite me. I find it a little bit too expensive for being fast food. However I am happy that a company like this is now in The Philippines in order to compete with other Tex –Mex concepts like for example the horrible “Silantro” restaurant.
