Little did we know that General Santos city is also a hub of culinary delights, far-cry from the rural we pictured it will be. We specifically loved Veranza mall, their upscale go-to place which was just five minutes away from our hotel.

Mooon Cafe (yes, with three Os) stemmed out from the idea that we'd like to have a grandiose dinner on our last night. It's primarily Mexican-themed and the interiors lived up to it. From the chairs to the ornaments on the walls and ceiling, they have established that rustic south American feel.

We chose to sit outside, adjacent to Veranza mall's humongous waterfall. It also helped that there was a live band playing just near.

What we got:

1. Chimichanga
Crispy flour tortilla filled with tender, mild-spiced beef, cheese, sour cream and salsa rojo. Topped with strips of lettuce and sour cream.

This actually surprised us because they served the tortilla wrappers, the meat and the veggies separately so we get to make them according to our preference.

(4/5) Because I love everything wrapped by tortilla.

2. Chicken Mozzarella Melt
Fried chicken fillet sprinkled with mozzarella cheese, sautted chopped tomatoes, served with rice.

My personal order. Nothing really special; it resembled a lasagna only the bottom is comprised by chicken. I loved how it was cheesy, though.

3. Mooon Steak
Sizzling pork steak topped with gravy sauce, served with garlic rice and vegetables.

This was a disappointment. It was served quite later than our other orders only to find out it tasted like a typical sizzling steak you can get from eateries. The serving was big though so props for that.

4. Spaghetti Ala Mooon
Sauteed chicken, shrimps, shitake mushroom, roasted peanut and oriental sauce.

This dish contrasts with the western tastes of our other meals so that made us rave for it. I also liked how minimalist the ingredients are but it did not turn out bland.

5. A big serving of fresh orange juice with mixed fruits

Considering the location of the resto, it was nice to know they have a high-caliber gastronomic outlet among many others in the area. I think they still haven't branched out yet in the Metro but they have legs in Cebu and Ilo-Ilo. This is a must-go place when you'll travel down south.
