I apologize for the picture. I was mean muggin but ended up looking like a frowning mango with a forehead.
Hehe it's been a long long time since I last went boxing here (or did anything as strenuous as boxing ) but I just wanted to say that if you like Pacman, boxing or both, I recommend you to go here!
LM Gym, the boxing gym in Manila where the 17-year-old Manny Pacquiao trained was replaced by MP Tower (I bet you can't figure out what MP stands for ) that first opened in 2009. The first floor is where you'll find Manny's travel agency and water station while the second floor is where the boxing gym is located. The third floor is where the tower's offices and Pacman's own office space is found. The remaining four floors are I think dormitories for boxers that train in the boxing gym who come from far places and have fights in Manila.
I had a really great time boxing not only 'cause they let me use boxing gloves that were signed by Pacman, but also because the session was really sulit. I even got to do the giant rope thing. That was some intense shiiii. I got cramps in bed that night LOL. What I liked about it though was that the trainers were supportive. Not all of them though because I remember being paired with one who was laughing at my footwork. Sorry na!
I kept on closing my eyes while sparring with Kuya Ericxon (you can search for videos of him training with Pacquiao at the gym on YouTube) because sweat just kept on pouring and pouring and pouring and I couldn't wipe it with them boxing gloves!
The place isn't easy to find and there's no legit parking spot. The building is surrounded by makeshift houses and the eskinita is filled with parked tricycles or trucks on most days so it's better if you make your way here by foot. It'll be much easier for UST students though as it's only 5-10 minutes away from the Noval gate.
They also sell Pacquiao merchandise and some of it are even signed by him. Kuya Ericxon said that the 'Mexicutioner' goes there and trains before leaving for fights in other countries. I asked if Pacman gets annoyed by the number of people who go there to take a picture with him and surprisingly, 'Boss Manny' (as they would all call him) actually lets fans go to his office on the third floor to meet him. Some women even kiss him on the cheek! Wala siguro kasi si Jinkee!
It's amazing to see how far Pacquiao has gone. You'll see black and white photos of him when he was this 17-year-old skinny (pero may six pack pa rin) boxer sporting the 90's Nick Carter hair framed in the gym. I read somewhere that he was selling pandesal during those days just to get by. He literally started from the bottom! Galing talaga!
Thanks to Carla P for telling me about this gym!
