Mount Mayon has the distinction of having a perfectly symmetric conical shape... It is the pride of the Bicol region and a major landmark & tourist attraction in our country. The name was derived from folklore about a princess known as Daragang Mayon or Beautiful Lady in English.

Located in the province of Albay, the volcano spans eight cities in the surrounding area. Though the deadliest eruption recorded was on 1814, Mayon is still classified as an active volcano today. It is closely monitored by PHIVOLCS, though the locals have their own "monitoring system" in place when you ask...

There are multiple ways of enjoying the view of Mayon. You can go up Lignon Hill for an unobstructed view of the volcano. You can also try the Bicol ATV adventure for a mix of action amidst a stunning backdrop. Daraga church is also a nice place to enjoy the magnificence of Mayon. You can even enjoy the sight from some of the cities restaurants...

A unique thing to try is to go up the volcano to the Mayon planetarium. Located in Tabaco city, it is about an hour away from Legazpi. You go take a winding path that will give you a view of the skyline of the city... It gets cold as you reach the planetarium-- BAGUIO WEATHER!!! In contrast to the heat and humidity of the city below... The planetarium teaches visitors about the behavior of the famous landmark. It is not focused on astrology and the like, despite it's name. A photo gallery is in display and you can watch a short video presentation about Philippine volcanoes-- particularly Mayon and Pinatubo...

They have a small store where you can have mami or pancit canton with hot coffee... It was very foggy during our short visit, so I don't have pictures of the skyline... 127752

Mt. Mayon is a real beauty. A picture perfect for the perfect cone. Good thing, the Mayon showed up when we visit. No clouds blinding the view of its peak. While visiting Bicol region, Mt Mayon should be on your list. 128077🏻

Mayon's perfect cone is beautifully captured by my iPhone. No filter needed. We were in Legaspi for 2 days, trying to catch a glimpse of that perfect cone, but Mayon was covered with clouds UNTIL the last hour. This was taken literally an hour before we left. That perfect cone decided to make an appearance. And it's magnificent.

the bf loves seeing Mt Mayon and we went to Mayon Resthouse/Observatory to get a better view.

we had to climb maybe 1/4 of the mountain from the base. we did not trek. driving is way easier. the road going to the Mayon resthouse was better than i remembered. A few rough roads.

Even it's summer the view can get cloudy. We waited for an hour to get this view. You can see the ashes still visible. View was worth the wait!

You can buy orchids and some plants within the observatory area. Good orchids can be bought in the houses near the area. It was cheap!

I used to see Mt. Mayon in postcards during my elementary projects. To be able to finally see this natural beauty for real is something no money can buy.

As what have been depicted in many books, Mt. Mayon still boasts that perfect cone shape up to this time. We went there last February (2012).

Aside from seeing it from afar, we were also able to go to the mountain itself. There is an observatory (though not operational) built halfway through the mountain. There are also cottages (perfect for picnics) that can be found in the area for those who'd like to chill and enjoy the cold breeze and the overlooking view of Albay.
