Had lunch with the wife and mother in law.
We arrived a little after lunch and the restaurant was already empty. Luckily they were still serving their lunch be to box menu. I ordered there chicken karaage set whole my wife and mother in law ordered the tempura set. We also ordered the gyoza to compare. The bento sets were delicious. The chicken and the tempura was crispy. The glitz had a weird taste to it but tolerable nonetheless. Happy eating guys!

It was our first time to dine at Nihonkai.
We ordered ramen, tuna maki, tofu and okonomiyaki. Food was ok, nothing great. There are far more better Japanese resto in the Metro.

After work last Thursday night, Ony and I had dinner here. I was craving for Japanese food and thought of this place since this is just near his office and my place. Arrived at already 830pm and there were still some vacant tables. Came here with no expectations at all (about the place and the food) since we just want to eat and enjoy. 1285139786

Anyway, the place is very "simple", I'm not sure if this is how they really want to present this place. Same w Kikufuji and Nihonbashitei, old unmaintained Japanese resto feels but this one is "newer" and "cleaner". Haha!! The staffs are everywhere (for a small place, they have a lot of staffs!) but they're all nice, friendly, and approachable. 128517128518

When we were finally seated, I scanned the menu and ordered right away. One Kani Salad, one Yakisoba, and one Beef Teppanyaki, please?! And one gohan! 128513

Service was fast as all our orders were served in less than 15minutes. We were given hot service tea while waiting. Which they constantly refill. 128513

Kani Salad
- if you like cucumber, kani, and mangoes you should get this. The amount of cucumber and kani added was a lot! Really. The mangoes were sweet. But since I was after the lettuce, I was kinda disappointed with this salad as there was only 1 piece of lettuce. 128546 For the taste, usual kani salad with Japanese mayo. 128517

Yakisoba
- last time we tried Yakisoba from Akira, we surprisinly liked it. So we got one order here. And again, we loved it. For us, it tastes like the instant pancit canton but not instant and with lots of cabbage, carrots, meat and with bonito flakes on top! We are not yakisoba experts but this is one good yakisoba! Not too salty, as well. 128513

Beef Teppanyaki
- seeing the other tables ordered this, we felt inggit that we also ordered one. This was good but considering the price, there was nothing extraordinary. The beef was tasty but not tender. Kind of salty. But the vegetable added was very generous.

Overall, despite the not so good kani salad and beef teppanyaki, we still enjoyed our dinner. We were hungry so we finished everything. Except for the cucumber, though. 128517128527

Service was excellent. The staffs were nice, very friendly and were all warm and welcoming. 128513

Wasn't as fresh as it should be. Considering it's the cousin of Nihon and it carries the name of a reputable Japanese market renown for fresh fish, I was not happy with my Chirashi.

Loved that it had uni and squid. But the all the other components did not taste their freshest. It tasted like cheap grades of sashimi.

Service was great though. They refilled my iced tea without asking. Gave the bill and change really quickly. Though we were seated on the 2nd floor someone stayed there to make sure guests on this floor were taken cared of. Miso soup came with my order. I didn't ask if we could get compli iced coffee.

I love it when I randomly discover a good restaurant. It makes me feel that I deserve a Dora the Explorer badge or something. Anyway, I felt that two weeks ago when I discovered Nihonkai Tsukiji.

Hello, Nihonkai Tsukiji.

The place isn’t something that you would instantly notice as the signage of this Japanese restaurant is quite discreet.

Upon entering, I noticed the notable attentiveness of the crew. They instantly handed the menu and one Japanese guy (I’m assuming is the owner) pulled a chair for me to put my bag on.

We ordered Salmon Aburi (PHP85/piece), Salmon Sashimi (PHP340), Makunochi Bento (PHP400) and Tempura Moriawase (PHP380).

First served was the salmon aburi and it was great! The cut was generous and the salmon was fresh. R really liked it and wanted to cancel the salmon sashimi for more of the aburi but the chef already prepared the salmon sashimi.

The salmon sashimi was served next and it was pretty good too. Again, they used fresh salmon.

I wasn’t able to try R’s mixed tempura as I was overwhelmed by my own order. R said that it was okay though.

My bento meal was value for money. For PHP400, I get a bowl of miso soup, katsudon, rice, salad, agedashi tofu, tuna and salmon sashimi, a small slab of salmon, and two slices of egg.

The bento was nothing spectacular but it sure was filling. It could even be good for two as I shared some of mine with R.

Overall, it was a pleasant dinner. I’ll definitely visit again!

one of the best restos here in Tuscany, Mckinley Hill and I believe has the same owner as that of Nihonbashitei in Makati. Food is what you would expect of a Japanese resto and great for those Japanese food cravings. For those living in taguig/bgc/mckinley area no need to go all the way to Nihonbashitei in Pasay road for that, we have Nihonkai Tsukiji now :)
