Ocha Asian Cuisine sits side-by-side with Vizcos along Baguio City's busiest thoroughfare, Session Road.

My family and I ordered some dishes from both restaurants. Since I was a bit full then, I opted for a pica-pica and ice cream. I also wanted to taste Vizcos' famous strawberry shortcake for the first time.

🔸Crispy Ikan Bilis - ₱85 ✔
I was curious by the name, so I ordered it and besides, it was one of the cheapest in the menu. It turned out to be a delicious discovery. It consisted of caramelized dilis and kamote wedges, peanuts and siling labuyo -- yes, I ate it with the sili because I liked it to have some kick of flavor. Crunchy, sweet, caramel-y, salty, peanut-y and spicy (do I talk like Giada de Laurentiis now? Hahaha 128516). I could not resist this! We were going bite after bite after bite... Pampulutan!

🔸Ice cream (₱80)

Ice cream in Baguio? Why not?

As soon as I saw "Green Tea," I did not hesitate to buy one. It turned out to be sweet and more on the milky side. It didn't have a depth of matcha flavor. Oh well, it said "green tea" rather than "matcha" so expect its "matcharap" factor to be weak. But well, it satisfied my green tea fix na rin.

My sister said the ube ice cream was not too sweet and tasted natural. From the muted, light color of the ice cream you can tell it's made from natural ube -- no artificial color added.

Ocha's ice cream was artisanal, or so I thought... It was more like gelato or is it because of Baguio's climate that it didn't melt quite easily.

Oven toasted onions, garlic heads, cinnamon sticks, star anis, and coriander seeds simmered for hours in a beef, pork, or chicken stock are the key ingredients for a good Phó.

This is what lacked in Ocha's take on a hearty soup I grew up with. It was very bland with almost no flavor; even hoisin and oyster sauce couldn't save this dish. It was served in a small bowl, with two or three small slices of beef and little vermicelli rice noodles. The most important condiment, Siracha was not available.

It's a shame that Session Rd., only has less than a handful of good restaurants. Though Ocha aims to please palates of residents by serving a variety of Asian dishes, a lot of improvement is in need.

Other "Asian" dishes I've tried from their menu, such as their fresh Vietnamese rolls, chicken samosas, tom yum, and laksa....flavors were just not there. Maybe if they were to concentrate on only one style of Asian cooking, instead of having other Asian cuisines in their menu, it would be better? Who knows?

I love their Fish Sambal and Pad Thai but forgot to take a picture. So went back the next morning to have breakfast and took this pic of the Garlic Beef Tapa which is also good. You can order from Vizco's right beside it (same owner). Ofcourse, it wont be right if we didn't order the famous Strawberry Shortcake for dessert.128515
