Oedo is a great Japanese restaurant find in this part of Quezon City (Sto. Domingo area, which is fairly near Sampaloc, Tondo, Caloocan, and also the likes of QC's own Morato, Quezon Ave, Banawe & Del Monte). It's a converted house, and it's HUGE, with outdoor tables, indoor tables, teppanyaki / misono tables, & function rooms. The Japanese feel is certainly apparent. Well done! It's like a less props-heavy version of Haru in Kapitolyo, plus it reminds me of how the Japanese restos of old--- Kamameshi House's old branches and the now-closed Takayama on Wilson spring to mind.

Oedo ratings, at a Glance:
> Food & Beverage: 3.5/5
> Service (Dine-In): 5/5
> Kitchen Service: 4/5 ordered two donburi's (rice bowl) and one special maki (fusion maki or maki mono or creative maki)
> Ambience: 4.5/5 (I love the look of the place; it's not intimidating like high end but feels nicely done; it's cozy, but not cluttered like some of the Little Tokyo places)
> Value for Money: 3.5/5 their Maki can stand to be cheaper relative to Omakase price (which is my peg for maki awesomeness)
> OVERALL: 3.5/5
I rounded up to 4 (their food is good, not blow your mind great) but the ambience and service kicks it up to a 4 since Looloo doesn't have a 10 pt scale.
___________

Worth a try - Yes (especially if you are a big group and are willing to try a new Japanese resto relatively in this area)
Worth a return - Sure, but I've got my regulars already in BGC and Makati & Greenhills, so no need to travel all the way here. If I'm back in QC, then sure, count me in!

> TIPS parking is easy in front of the resto along Sto. Domingo or on the side street. They're on Waze so it's easy. I didn't need to reserve on a Sunday evening though we were only 2.

> VERDICT: a perfectly good Japanese restaurant in Quezon City, well decorated, with an extensive menu of traditional and relatively modern stuff, friendly and efficient staff, inside a cozy converted house, Oedo is a great choice for families and barkada's looking for good Japanese food. I'm likely going to give their creative maki's another try next time I've reason to be in this area. Though Omakase's like 10 minutes away lang, if I really want my fave, Oedo's got other stuff that Omakase doesn't have, like A5 Wagyu (didn't try it) for one.

------------------
Details below:

Oedo seems to be like Haru in Kapitolyo in its SM-like pursuit of providing a very extensive menu, like sashimi, sushi, maki sushi, special sushi, chirashi sushi, donburi, curry, Tempura, agemono (fried), udon, soba, ramen, kushiyaki (yakitori or skewers), etc.! In this age of more restos specializing, this goes against the grain.

We ordered the following:
Oedo Maki P300 - crabstick, cucumber and unagi (eel), which is one of their best sellers. With unagi as base, it should be great. But it was okay only for me. I think they should have added some tempura flakes for added texture. That crunch would have added the oomph to the look. Otherwise, it was just good for me. Rating: 3/5

On a side note, if Japanese restaurants are going to do their own Creative versions of Maki's, can't they also replicate the mayo soy sauce of Omakase? PLEASE? 128522

Gyu Don - Beef rice bowl. P280. Good priced, lots of beef, decent flavor. I wasn't wowed by it, but the things they can improve: make the beef more sukiyaki thin like Yoshinoya. Some pieces were a tad thick. At least making it sukiyaki cut would lessen the toughness. I've tasted better flavors. This is one of their best sellers so expectations were higher. 3/5

Sake-Uni Don P580 - (salmon & sea urchin bowl). My wife ordered this. The salmon was decent, the local uni, surprisingly very good. Happy with this order, but I'd be happier if I ordered it for myself instead. 128514 I'd say expensive at 580 but seeing the amount, I get it. I'd be more impressed if the salmon was of a fresher or better quality. Regardless, I'd give this a solid 4/5.

Complimentary rice tea was good! Service as mentioned above was very good, save for the delay in issuing an OR.

Great Japanese option for this Quezon City neighborhood. Worth a visit if you're in the 10 to 20km radius of the area.

Never thought this place would be packed on a saturday night. Met with a friend here and were 8th on the wait list. I usually dine here on sunday when the outside tables were deserted and there were few diners inside. But then im happy that this place is vibrant tonight.

Udon Temple was just okay, the soup was salty though but thick noodles was good.

Oedo Maki was also good. Though i dont think wasabi was necessary, i think its up there for the flavor

Salmon and Uni Don was also good. Not the freshest one i could have but its not bad since its hard to find one around banawe.

Bacon Asparagus was good.

I think the peak hour here for saturday night was around 7pm to 9pm.

Service was goood, Ambiance is nice 128522 Definitely be back.

Ever since my first visit here i wasnt able to dine here again, so on the night of november 1 only a handful of restaurants along banawe avenue were open at late night, one after another they're closing up, the term "sarado na tindahan" pops up on my mind 128518. Then i remember this place, this one closes late at night, in fact at 11pm. So we hurriedly finds our way here, this place was out of the usual way of the restaurant street of banawe, somewhere along N Domingo near ajisen ramem you can spot a corner lot space with japanese lanterns and stone garden on its entrance.  Good news is that there are lots of parking space within the area.

Came here with a few customers still taking their meal.  The table were we seated needs a little cleaning but then the service was good.

We order the following:
1. Gyudon - Tender slices of beef with raw egg on top and red ginger on side.  This was surprisingly good as i never expect their gyudon to be of this quality.

2. Katsu Curry - This was really unexpected as the katsu curry was almost as good as the ones at coco ichinbaya.  Just a warning, this rice meal is good for two people. 128522

3. Asapura bacon and enoki mushroom bacon - light and fresh ingredients, its as good as those at nambantei but one asupara bacon taste abit salty.

Not all dishes here are affordable and alot of the items at menu are tokyo priced so i guess just order wisely like we did.

Since we were very happy with the food and service provided ill give this five stars for this visit. 128522

Very good sashimi for price, tonkotsu ramen a bit salty, tenzaru soba was very large and the tempura had just the right amount of batter. All in all a very good experience, food is comparable to little tokyo

Sunday lunch time, do make reservations here if you plan to dine here especially weekends. There are three VIP rooms upstairs in which we've occupied one.

128204128525 green tea cold ramen
You can appreciate the taste of green tea by eating a small amount of the noodle. It goes with a tempura dip, quail egg, green onions, and wasabi. The serving is not bad for 200. Mix in the quail egg, wasabi and the green onions in the dip. However, some prefer to mix the wasabi in the noodle. Dip the noodles then slurp. Ahh I like it colder.

128204128525 chicken curry
Their curry is stronger which i like. Japanese rice!

128204 oedo maki roll
Crispy mountain of tempura flakes with Japanese mayo on a very thick and yummy special maki roll.

128204 chicken teriyaki
Ordinary teriyaki, but i guess the defining characteristic of Oedo is this bit of burnt-grill taste of the chicken. Soft and tender. Japanese rise too!

128204pork ramen
Soup is ok. The ramen consistency is below average. Not so recommendable

This place is good for family lunch or dinner. 128540

Food was quite good. The Maki was filling and the prices were reasonable. The restaurant was quite full when we went on a Monday night. Sign of a good restaurant. However, it's not for intimate dinners.

I always pass by here whenever araneta ave and other major roads are congested in traffic and i would always be in awe at the structure of this resto since it reminds me of little tokyo. Tonight was my first time here, before heading here for fam dinner, my bro warns me not to order their ramen and just a look at the menu pic, i was convinced that he was right.

This place has a mixed reviews, but i guess it all boils down to what you will order as i didnt like 1 item that we ordered.

1. Oedo maki *P300 - this one was good, its a must. 6 pcs of maki with tempura crispies on top.

2. Onigiri *P85 - we all love this coz its cute. Hahaha. But seriously it was not bad with the salmon inside.

3. Beef teppan *300++ this was also good, you can request it to be cooked medium.

4. Yakitori mix *P300++ -i didnt like this one since it has lots of pork internals likes pig liver, heart, unmarinated chicken. I suggest order the preferred yakitori than a mixed one.

5. Gohan - was at 55 each.

Overall i like the upscale little tokyo ambiance especially at night, the servers are courteous, but alot of items on the menu are pricey, for comparison its price are more or less like tsumura.

HAMACHI SASHIMI : Good kind of sashimi , the quality is good enough its just lacking in bright redish colour strips in every slice of HAMACHI SASHIMI for me to call it in premium quality . The serving is ok for the price of 700 pesos but if they can lower it to 550 pesos then it will be so fair shall i say .

Oedo is a japanese resto in sto domingo. The area is not common for restaurant so its surprising that there is a japanese resto in there. The place is quite big with al fresco bbq area in the outside. The inside is big with a small place for VIP rooms on the 2nd flr. The decoration is very nice especially the outside. It has a tree with japanese lantern very cool.
We ordered quite many variant since we were in a group. We tried they various maki roll and everything were delicious. They just aren't perfectly rolled some are quite sliced big. The tuna sashimi is freshly thick sliced. The burger curry was delicious. It was thick burger patty soak in curry. That alone will make you full. The beef teppan was also perfectly cooked medium rare. It was very soft. One of my favorite to order japanese resto is the chawamushi. Theirs are also good. The yakisoba was the favorite of my mom. While the tempura was everybodys favorite.
Overall oedo is a great addition to the long list japanese resto in quezon city. This area has a much easier parking place compare to tomas morato and less traffic. They have great list of sashimi to choose from to ease those cravings. Definitely a place that I would love to try again. Maybe next time try some of their yakitori.
