Ombu is a modern filipino restaurant (i thought it's a japanese resto) which is situated inside a hotel. I find its food meh.. Nothing special. Actually we ordered alot of foods but i didn't like them that much!! Wasn't able to take pictures of the food na nga..

❎Tinapa croquette - parang d kayo bagay9888
tinapa+croquette=128078🏻...ate the leftover this morning but again, d talaga sya masarap. Just had 1 bite lang.
❎salted egg tempura - shrimps are so small127844
❎bagnet dinuguan - d rin kayo bagay 9888️ the dinuguan is so dry same with the bagnet plus the meat is hard
❎crispy tadyang - super dry also128004
❎grilled liempo - dry and bland 128055
❎grilled squid - sunog! 128565
✅crispy glazed chicken - crunchy skin and taste ok but i find it too sweet. 128019
✅crispy chicken skin - that's the only food i like but kawawang cholesterol. Hahahaha128020
❎munggo - ok ok lang..
❎bulalo - d na mainit when it was served10052
❎binakol - too salty... Lagot naman si kidney dito!! 128541

Didn't order desserts anymore but I think their cakes are from purple oven. Looks familiar kasi... 127856

Final verdict... Foods are either too salty, too sweet, bland or dry! 🙄

But in fairness... The price is not that expensive! Very affordable considering it's inside a hotel. Additional 1 127775 for that! 128521

Ombu is located at the ground floor of Sequoia Hotel along Mother Ignacia Avenue in Quezon City. It’s a “casual fine dining” restaurant with cozy interiors and soft lighting to match.

Although “Ombu” may seem Japanese, it’s actually the name of a tree as a nod of Sequoia Hotel. Ombu serves “modern Filipino” fare – half of the restaurant’s menu is a take on Filipino classics, and the other half is Filipino comfort food we may have grown up with.

We started off our dinner with house blend ice tea and shrimp lumpia. The ice tea was refreshing and fruity, while the shrimp lumpia was succulent and light. Although the shrimp lumpia was appetizing, the side of fresh tomato and mango salsa needed tweaking. The pieces of fruit and vegetable were cut too big. So much so that the flavours tasted disconnected, and seemed to be thrown on the plate as if an after thought.

Soon after we had our appetizers, our mains came. One of the dishes that impressed the people at our table was the Crispy Tadyang. The big chunks of fried beef were a hit because they were tender and flavourful. The tart dipping sauce that came with it further enhanced the sweet-savoury taste of the beef.

Another dish that everyone seemed to enjoy was the Crispy Glazed Chicken - a batter-fried chicken glazed with sweet garlic sauce that the restaurant proudly calls its “best seller”. Most people liked the dish, but I personally thought the flavour was singular. The glaze on the chicken was nothing but sweet.

Gising-gising is a ground pork and green bean dish cooked in coconut milk and shrimp paste (bagoong) to enhance the flavor. Its name literally means “wake-up, wake-up” because it is supposed to beextra spicy. Ombu’s version of Gising-Gising was not spicy at all. Although the dish was rich and complex because of the coconut milk, it lacked the extra spice-kick that makes Gising-Gising familiar and comforting.

Ombu served us two dishes that night that were not yet on the menu: the Litson Sinigang and Litson Kare-Kare. These dishes are still in their development phase as of writing.

Both the Litson Sinigang and Litson Kare-Kare were my least favourites.

My first taste of the Kare-Kare actually made me think that it was prepared with pre-mixed powder. The unsavoury broth/sauce fundamentally lacked the nutty flavour that all Kare-Kare dishes should have. Some people from the group also mentioned that the pork litson didn’t work with the dish, as most still would’ve preferred beef in it.

The Sinigang was flat and tasteless. Although the litson meat was tender and well seasoned, the lackluster broth was just indefensible.

Dessert was delicious, and I’m glad to have ended dinner on a high note. The Frozen Brazo was great to say the least. It had lovely layers of ice cream, yema, and meringue that cleansed the palate quite well.

Having some things to improve on doesn’t mean Ombu isn’t worth visiting. If what you’re looking for is good food, cozy ambiance, and a little privacy, this restaurant might be worth checking out.

It's a good modern Filipino menu that has a lot of potential to improve on taste, the shrimp lumpia, crispy tadyang and frozen brazo de mercedes were top 3. Mango tomato salsa worked so well with shrimp lumpia, crispy tadyang was perfectly crisp outside and soft to chew and the cold dessert made its flavor much more tasty. The gising gising was alright, I don't mind that it wasn't spicy.

Improve on sinigang, it's so basic and meh, Kare Kare portion was good but lacks sauce, add a little more.

We always pass by this resto since it's very near our place but to be honest, it never got us curious at all. First, it's plain looking from the outside. 2nd, it's not as jampacked as other establishments. And lastly, it's a restaurant by a 2-3 star hotel, so we thought it was just so-so.

So just the other day we were hungry and we wanted to take a break from Japanese food, we craved for Filipino/lutong bahay dishes. And since it's petsa de peligro as well, we looked for a resto that's affiliated with a discount membership thingy that I won last Christmas (wink @ Kathryna d!). Ombu popped out, so we gave it a try.

And we both agree, Ombu is so underrated. This resto needs to be reviewed and recommended to everyone. Walang hindi masarap, I swear. Here's what we got.

Gising-gising - I was surprised with how huge the serving is. If you're fond of salty food you might find this on the bland side, but I think it's okay.

Pork Sinigang - this one's a winner! We love sinigang and we like our Sinigang sour. As in napapapikit na sour. This one's not overly sour naman, but it was good. It's what we're looking for in a Sinigang. Unlike other well-known restos that disappoint us because they lack the sourness (128293), Ombu knows their Sinigang. Okay, I'm salivating right now. Kadiri.

Dinuguang Bagnet - we almost did not order this because rarely does a non-Ilocano resto deliver a good bagnet. And not to mention, initially we didn't have high expectations on this resto (sorry naman). But buti na lang matakaw kami. The bagnet on top of the dinuguan has the right crunch, and at the same time the meat is tender and flavorful. And the balat, so heavenly crispy! I will definitely pick this over that other famous crispy dinuguan. You'll not regret ordering this, unless mastroke ka because of it.

The girl also got their Marshmallow Cake for dessert and it was good too!

There are lots of dishes on their menu that we want to try like their Sisig Pizza, Salted Egg Spaghettini, and Beef Caldereta Pie. It's caldereta in a large ramekin topped with mashed potato. It's like a local Shepherd's Pie and it's also one of their bestsellers.

The service is good too, they're very attentive with our needs, even if you don't ask. They have fast wifi too! One thing that they need to improve on is they need to change the upholstery of some of their couches. And I hope they chance their music on the background. Hindi bagay ang Yeng Constantino songs doon, sa totoo lang.

This is one of thus most underrated, but must-visit restos in QC. So give it a go! We're definitely going back there soon. As in now na. Maliligo lang ako. 128518

Chicken skin (PERFECT!). Gising-gising. Mashed potato Caldereta. Garlic rice. All are good. All are delish. Crispy baby crablets, no baby anymore. Some of it are huge already. Not something that i will order again when i go back.

Whenever the company holds an event at Sequoia Hotel, I make it a point to be there early enough to have my breakfast at Ombu. The spacious and cozy ambiance is topped only by the wifi service, which is very convenient for last minute email before the work day begins. I recommend the longganisa breakfast platter. Reminds me of home! 128522

We had our show's post Christmas and New Year dinner here at Ombu last night. First time to try this place out. It's located at the ground floor of Seqouia Hotel in Mo. Ignacia Ave, cor. Timog, beside Burger King.

Since my previous apartment was near that area, everytime I was about to go to work, I usually pass by this restaurant but never did I try to eat here because it looked like a fine dining place. Good thing I got the chance to eat here for free since we got them as sponsor for our event!

Tables were filled up with their bestsellers: Salted Egg Spaghettini, Crispy Glazed Chicken, Gising-Gising, Bagnet Dinuguan, Mahi-Mahi Sisig, Plain Rice and Buko Pandan as dessert. My favorites were Salted Egg Spaghettini - the joy of eating my favorite "itlog na maalat" and "kamatis" as main ingredient in the spaghettini made it possible to have an ensalada pasta! Yum! Bagnet Dinuguan also boasts of the flavorfulness and crispiness of the bagnet. Crispy Galzed Chicken reminded me of sweet bonchon but this time, less MSG. Gising-gising surprised me too with its right amount of spiciness. For a non-fan of spicy food, I had spoonfuls of this because after the taste lingers, you crave another one more. Mahi-Mahi Sisig also is a winner for sisig lovers who like to try a healthier version. Mahi-Mahi is a delicious fish for sisig!

This restaurant really lives up to its name of being a modern Filipino restaurant since the usual Filipino dishes we have were infused with a little change of the usual ingredient and flavor.

Ambiance was nice too with its fine-dining feel. The white motif adds up to its eloquence. Prices of food for me are just appropriate to the amount of serving. I recommend this place to you guys. Worth a try.

Ombu is one of those Filipino restaurants that serves Filipino dishes with a twist.

The place is spacious, well-lit, and comfortable. The service is excellent. The prices are a bit expensive.

I have been here more than twice and I can say that I get satisfied with my visit.

My favorite dishes are Fried Mahi-Mahi, Salted Egg Spaghetti, Buttered Chicken, and Frozen
brazo.

Frozen Brazo with brewed coffee is a perfect ending for a heavy meal.

Our previous overnight stay at Sequoia included a set breakfast at Ombu... You can choose either Filipino, American or pancake breakfast... I wanted the tapa, my choice when in a new restaurant... It's hard to make mistakes when it comes to tapa... My bf opted for the tocino and added a side order of pancakes... The tapa was delicious! The tocino was okay but the pancakes were expensive and dry... Not worth the price...

Sisig pizza!!!

We finally tried Ombu as I was so curious about the sisig pizza... I figured two of my fave foods combined would probably be stellar...127829+127835=128079... 128522

There weren't many people there when we visited. It's a simple and classy place done in black and white... They serve Filipino food with a modern twist...

My bf and I ordered their salted egg spaghettini and the sisig pizza, apparently two of their best sellers... We also had the fried kangkong for our appetizers, which was actually the highlight of our meal IMO... Sarap with Super Dry!

The salted egg spaghettini was okay, it was kind of bland for me, but my bf liked it... But the sisig pizza was super super oily! I couldn't finish a slice, I really didn't like the combination!128563 that was a letdown for me...128542 and the food was a bit pricey! The sisig pizza was about P500!128513 sad to shell out that much for something you didn't quite enjoy...

But, the service was great though...

When I was walking myself to the church nearby, I noticed this restaurant and got curious because if their "modern filipino" claim in their cuisine.

So even if I had dinner already, I asked my friend to eat with me and try it out. I must say the ambience, and the interior of the place is a big CHECK! We ordered their Battered Chicken and Mahi-mahi sisig (fish/seafood), and the food is quite interesting. It was really delicious! The sauce of the battered chicken is somewhat familiar though, I just forgot where. And their sisig, even if it was fish (which is weird to be called a sisig), their personal touch to it was commendable.

Too bad they ran out of the banana dessert. :(

But overall, this is a resto to come back for. :)

"While foods that produce physical happiness affect our physiology, comfort foods provide happiness on a psychological level. When you're down in the dumps, however, you probably won't care about the distinction, as long as you feel better."... Lucky to have found myself in this area of QC on that stressful Wednesday. The lambanog cream pasta and beignet with tsokolate E definitely gave me a boost 128522 I understand that beignets, unlike churros, are dense rather than light and airy, but anything deep fried with loads of chocolate will surely uplift anyone from gloom 128513 And paired with their brewed coffee, it was all good 128076 I had a taste if my BFF's lambanog cream pasta and it was creamy and flavorful, not too cloyingly rich 128077

Almost everything on their menu is delicious! Love their Salted Egg Spaghettini (the one on the picture), Seafood Laing, Spicy Garlic Crablets, Herb Crusted Mahi-Mahi, and Beef Salpicao among others.

As for dessert, their Chocolate cake with Ice cream (forgot what it's called) is a must try and Frozen Braso De Mercedes! 128522128522128522

Plus the place has a free and fast wifi!
