Late post (since I didn't have a looloo account yet when we dined here HEHE. But I posted this before in my FB)

Pre-Valentine's lunch + trying another new restaurant! It's such a great way to celebrate this special day 9786128156

Japanese food is undisputedly my (our?) #1 favorite cuisine of all time. We have dined in so many Japanese restaurants already, and each time, we tend to set the bar a little bit higher than the last time. Personally, I like Japanese food because the ingredients are always paired well, resulting in a fresh, sumptuous, and filling dish (without the "umay" factor).

Ooma's menu is very colorful and has plenty of pictures, and you will actually want to order everything because everything looks so good! 128525 For those who know our Japanese food eating habits, our staples are Salmon Sashimi (for me) and Ebi Tempura (for Josh). But today's picks are different, mainly because: 1. We want to try new things, 2. The bestsellers / specialties of the restaurant lies in other categories, and 3. This restaurant is not a classic Japanese restaurant (it's more of a modern / fusion restaurant).

Food items are reltaively pricey, but the quality definitely did not disappoint.

OOMA ABURI MAKI
✔ Salmon Tartare Aburi Maki (Php 295 for 6 pcs) - 1108811088110881108811088
Aburi Maki are torched, which is a personal take of their chef in this classic Japanese favorite. We loved how the components worked well together, which resulted to a very refreshing dish. It's also great that the rolls were perfectly sized, which makes it a breeze to eat in one bite.

HOT PLATES
✔ Soft Shell Crab Tempura (Php 398) - 11088110881108811088
The tempura came with the classic tempura sauce (Josh's fave), aligue mayo, and avocado mousse (my fave). It was delicious as well, but was a bit bitin, because the 400-peso dish came with only 6 pieces that are not that big either. (If there were more pieces or if each piece was bigger, it would have had a 511088 rating from me)

✔ Hanger Steak (Php 498) - 1108811088110881108811088
This dish had "no unneeded components", according to Josh. The sauteed mushrooms and crispy baby potato gave the dish distinct changes in textures with each bite. The white truffle oil gave the diah a certain kick and unique pungency, and the sous-vide steak AKA star of the dish, was soft, juicy and tasty. It is then sliced and laid on a bed of sweet potato mash, giving the steak an ample amount of sweetness, as well as serving as the component that bonded each element together.

My Favorite: Salmon Tartare Aburi Maki
Josh's Favorite: Hanger Steak

This is a place I totally recommend! Service is great, and I suggest you visit a bit earlier before the place gets packed during meal times. The ambiance is also good, it's like eating at a Japanese fish market because of the decorations. You may also choose to sit at the bar, to see the chefs in action. 128522 I would love to visit again to try their other dishes. Visit them soon, as this is unlike any other Japanese restaurant!

Pro-tip: For tea drinkers, (hot) house tea is served free of charge. And of course, when you order hot plates, they serve you UNLIMITED JAPANESE RICE! You heard that right! 127834127834127834 (Josh enjoyed this so much, he ate 3 cups of rice! HEHEHE 128586)

P.S.: My rating for OOMA is actually 4.5 11088, but I rounded it up because Japanese food is 10084! 128525
P.P.S.: Happy 10th review to me! 128513

Well what can I say?

I LOVE OOMA! Haha!

So first time to try their Hamachi & Kani Aburi Maki, because whenever I try to order it, it's unavailable. So I was super happy that this time they had it. Aaaaaand it was amazing! Ugh! The best out of all their Aburi Makis!

Also, first time to try their Tori Karaage. It was okay in my opinion, but my fiance loved it! He loved the sauce as well, which he asked an extra bowl for, he said he liked it because it was not just the usual japanese mayonnaise. The karaage looked like little sea urchins btw. Hihi

The rest was our usual order, Hanger Steak and Soft Shell Crab Taco Maki.

I'm one of those silent critics who eat in a restaurant for the total dining experience. The exterior/interior, service, music, location, pricing are vital factors that make this experience memorable aside from the food.

Unfortunately, not every restaurant gives you all of the aforementioned. Been awhile since we've eaten here and not surprisingly, it has the same service as before. Nobody assisted as in the entrance, when we sat down we had to get the menu. The soft shell crab tempura (P398.00) took more than 15min to serve, had to ask for water replenishment, uni wasn't fresh so sashimi cannot be served, and a server was scolded publicly for not helping out with the orders (why not approach and whisper it instead?). Very gloomy aura from the get go when we waited and nobody ushered us to a table. You don't even see the waiters smile, as if a funeral was ensuing. P1,949.82 for all of these observations but at least the Uni Udon (P495.00) was good. The rest was descent like the Unagi Maki P299.00, Gyudon (P299.00, funny how this and an appetizer have the same price), and Katsudon (P299.00 again?🤔).

So in the first place why were we eating at this Japanese restaurant? Blame Lifestyle since they featured sultry and delectable dishes in restaurants in Japan. Obviously, can't blame the show for the cravings.9996🏻️#somereviewsareoverrated #justbehonestforeverybody

Went to Ooma coz the Zo won't stop saying that she loves it there.

We ordered:

Unagi Maki, Beef Chahan, Salmon Skin Aburi Maki & Hanger Steak.

But Salmon Skin was not available & Zo was really sad about coz that's her favorite. We ordered Salmon Tartare Aburi Maki instead.

Everything was good, but what really caught my attention was the Hanger Steak. It was really good! 128523 I really love the Sweet Potato Mash & the Steak itself. 10084️ The only thing that I didn't like was the hint of Truffle Oil.

After errands, we were all famished. Since my family haven't tried this restaurant. I tried this resto thrice and I enjoyed almost all of their dishes. A little price but it was worth it.

We ordered:
Scallop and Tuna Aburi Maki (Php255)
Anago Cucumber Aburi Maki (Php355)
Both were packed with flavor, 6 pcs for each order.

Gyudon (Php289) mostly mushroom, not enough meat.
Buta Kakuri Katsudon (Php289) yummy!

It was 4.30PM and I was super hungry, since I barely ate for lunch.

I had four spoonfuls of tapa only, it was iuneatable.

I was looking for a quick fix, not too heavy and cheap. Dinner was at 7PM.

I passed by Ooma and ordered their California Taco Maki for 155 I think.

They were absolutely devine! Two pieces of flavourful open maki. I love it.

Had Ooma's Hanger Steak. It was really good and was already good for two. The truffle oil can be a little too rich but the fusion of all the flavors and ingredients is just right. The meat was really cooked just right (I'm not a fan of well-done meat). The dish can be a little heavy for one person, so please share! Or have a steak date haha. :)

While eating and loving this dish, was asked whether I was a food blogger. I just said I just love to eat out and add food reviews to looloo 128517.

All the recos were spot on! Thank you to those that sent them!

Finally visited this place last August with the H. Came in here before their Makati and BGC branches opened. Everything we ordered was good and fresh. As with the Sensei branch in BF, the ceviche pictured here is an absolute favorite of ours.

Sorry forgot what everything was called. I don't think you can go wrong here in Ooma. Happy that they're now a stones throw away from us.

Just when you think this as another Japanese resto in town is where You've made your first mistake. This aburi sushi (a.k.a. torched sushi) gig is one of the best places to go for makis and not sashimis.

Reasons to go:
- Tired of the usual makis and sushis like California Maki and tuna rolls.
- You've been craving to try something new but still want Japanese to be the main cuisine.
- You want to impress your date but nothing too intimidating or too fancy that may overwhelm them. Impress not overwhelm.
- Because your friends said the food was AWESOME but you haven't tried it.
- Do you really need more reasons?

For starters, you may want to try the gyozas. This is not a bad idea. The tempura is you're second good idea because the dips are savory. The tako maki is an even better idea because this sets the standards for how good the next ones are going to blow your mind. Ok not exactly blow your mind but definitely impress the palate and savor on the foodgasm. For the love of life, try the scallop and tuna aburi maki and forget your name. Moving on to other entrees, the coconut sauce underneath the buta kakuni is by far the most addicting sauce I've had there. The udons are definitely flavorful and the hanger steak is laid on a bed of mashed sweet potatoes that will also make you feel like like doing the same darn thing after eating. Yes, lying down on a bed of mashed fluffiness. Don't let the experience end there. I've been coming back here to try all other things you couldnt fit in your belly on your first visit. Bet you'll be doing the same thing. #UnicornGiveaway

I have been reading good reviews about Ooma here in Looloo that's why I wanted to try their menu. Ooma is a Japanese restaurant which becoming quite popular because of instagram-worthy makis. I just found out how good looking they are in person.

We went to Megamall to shop for the upcoming Christmas Party. I decided to asked my officemates if they wanted to eat something Japanese after. They agreed without hesitation.

Ooma is located in Fashion Hall in SM Megamall. We easily found the restaurant and thanked God that no queues were waiting. We seated and the waiters immediately gave us the menu and tea while waiting.

127860FOOD + PRICE
There are wide variety of choices and I couldn't help but to stare all the good looking Japanese food! I was not familiar with other choice so we just had what I knew like:

✔Ebi and Kani Aburi Maki (P255)
I couldn't picked what maki should we get because all of them looks delicious. I asked the waiter and she said that one of their best sellers is the Ebi and Kani so we ordered it. yep! it was "malinamnam". I think I can consume the entire order if I had the chance! The cream cheese went well with the kani, ebi and the rice. Unfortunately, I'm not a Wasabi person so no spicy for me!

✔Tori Kara-age (P245)
whenever we eat in a Japanese resto or ramen house, we ordered Kara-age. This one, the chicken is crispy on the outside and yummy inside. Perfect with Chanan! I don't know what's the crispy like hair but its actually delicious and crispy too!

✔ Buta Kakuni (P365)
Soft and tender pork belly. I love the coconut sauce because it blended with the roasted meat. This is actually good for sharing.

✔House Chanan (P99)
Delicious Japanese rice with mixed veggies and egg. It was like Chao pan of Chinese. We got this instead of the usual rice to taste if its good with Kara-age. And YES is the answer!

✔Beef Chanan (P145)
Same like House Chanan but with beef pieces.

SERVICE
Staffs were friendly. They were attentive on every customers need. The restaurant was clean as well as the restroom.

128507AMBIANCE
Japan feels! The interior designs are well arranged to be like Japanese resto. Comfy place for dining.

I wanted to come back! I'm starting to love Ooma just like how I fell in love with Oedo. They were both worth to visit!

So giving in to the hype we (L,J & i) decided to give ooma a try.
Place was full 10 minute wait time
So we had the corn kakiage - 2 stars , bland, sweet corn fried in a thick spongy batter. Next time-skip that. Not worthy.
Scallop & Tuna maki 4 stars - light & delicate. Must eat this slowly & savor it to taste the scallop. Worthy.
Tuna & Salmon skin aburi Maki-3 stars . Flavored well , but the salmon skin which was supposed to be crunchy was hard- felt like someone misplaced a fish bone instead of skin, but the 2 pieces i tried both had the hard not crunchy almost bone hard salmon skin, sayang. Hhmm. Almost worthy .
O-Gyoza -4 stars , the mozzarella seemed a good idea but this caused the gyoza pieces to stick together & pulling them apart would "disembowel" the gyoza. How to share ? worthy.
Hanger steak -5 stars , tender , flavorful , WORTHY .
We also had a sort of gyoza served on a wire screen w some chili powder sprinkled on top 4 stars -Worthy.
Ebi Tempura. Light batter 5 stars tjger prawns WORTHY
Yakimeshi rice -beef 4 stars worthy!
Suggest they serve the gyoza 1st and you gobble them up hot. They lose their appeal when cold .
Overall a good meal . We spent P2100 , 3 of us . With leftovers for the dog (we don't have one, so i guess that's me)
service 5 stars
Wait 20mins to 1st dish, then they all come together . will be back , soon!

I definitely understand the hype!

Food is delicious here. And the prirce is just right! You can get a mound full of tender, juicy, steak for 500PHP. Wow. I especially loved the garlic chips and roasted mushrooms.

They say the Salmon Skin Aburi Maki is a must, but for me the Scallop and Tuna Aburi Maki is better. Not saying the Salmons Skin was bad (it was really good), just saying that the Scallol and Tuna was amazing!

Ebi and Kani Aburi Maki was good too.

Oh, and I just tastes the best Chicken Teriyaki I have ever had.

We came from a working afternoon at Starbucks and was deciding where to have dinner. My friend wanted to go with Thai food while I crave for something Japanese. I remembered trying Ooma the first time and asked him if he has tried it and since he has not tried it, we ended up goimg to the Fashion Hall area.

It was just around 5:30 in the afternoon so we were pleasantly surprised that there is no queue. Usually, you would have to wait for about 15 minutes to half an hour before you can dine in. So as if the odds were at our avor, we went in and indulged ourselves to some taste buds delight. 128523

We’ve asked what does OOMA means and was told that “OOMA” is a play on the Japanese word ‘umai’ which translates to ‘good’.. (not the “umay” you have in mind my friend!! Haha! 128514128516

Here’s the list of what we tried for dinner:

127805CORN KAKI-AGE/P275.00
128204Oyster dip, Japanese corn, Nori salt
128077Good apetizer

128020CHICKEN TERIYAKI/P295.00
128204Fresh mesclun greens, grilled chicken thigh, cherry tomato, pickled carrots, red radish, Sesame seeds and Miso vinaigrette dressing
128077good to have if you are after healthier options

128020OYAKO DON/P289.00
128204Smoked sous-vide chicken, fresh mushroom, onion, fresh egg, crispy chicken skin and house tare
128078 rice was a bit of disappointment as it was not an authentic Japanese rice

128031 SALMON SKIN ABURI MAKI/P275.00 (6 pcs.)
128204Torched salmon, crispy salmon skin, asparagus. Cream cheese, Wasabi aioli and Teriyaki sauce
128077Good. It was my first time to try this kind of maki and it did not disappoint! Hindi siya malansa! 9786

127807 KANI SALAD/P295.00 (For Sharing)
128204mesclun greens, shrimp, carrots, pickled vegetables. Mango pico, Aligue mayo, and Yakinu Sauce
128077 Good for two

It was indeed bold flavors built together to create something familiar and comforting, with new tastes based on the modern day palate. A real joy in eating! 128536128139

In all fairness, they took “good” seriously as they put much thought and passion into each dish. ✔
