Last week, my friend Rica and I stayed at Oriental Zen Suites for 3 nights. We were in the area because our board exam took place at UE.
Oriental Zen is actually a condotel: its first 4 floors are being rented out to dormers and the 5th floor is for daily guests. They only opened this year, so everything is still nice and fresh!
It's not a hotel-hotel... They don't offer room service (as they have no meals) and their free breakfast is from Jollibee. There's no bellhop... But there's a kuya who will help you with your things! Hehe
I hope you don't don't let any of that make you think any badly of them! Their customer service is superb. Everyone was really nice and friendly. One night their staff even called us up just to check up on us. She let us know until what time her shift was and told us to ring if we needed anything. They were also kind enough to let us leave our stuff in their office during the last day (even if we already checked out), as we couldn't bring all our bags to our exam venue.
Our room had two single beds, cable tv and wifi. There was also a mini-fridge, an electric kettle, a small counter with a sink and ample storage for food and clothes. They also gave us complimentary bottles of water and shampoo. They also gave us slippers to use! I received two left slippers though BUT!!! Another example of great service --- the kuya who cleaned our room noticed my slippers weren't a perfect pair and he replaced them. He did that without me asking! He didn't even bring it up at all while he was cleaning. After cleaning, he left and to our surprise, came back a few minutes later with a new pair for me.
The bathroom is where I had a problem. It was nice enough, except that the shower had no partition. After every shower the whole bathroom would be wet. :( The shower was nice though! Ceiling mounted rain shower mmmmm :)
A small nuisance we had was the lack of sockets near the bedside and the desk. I had to charge my phone at the kitchen area.
Overall, I had a really really pleasant time. In fact, I wanted to write this review even when I was still there but it wasn't on looloo! Kudos to the looloo staff for adding it up so quickly haha.
It was so nice to relax in our room after the long hours of board exam taking. In a nutshell, it was simple but clean and comfortable.
Hopefully I pass my board exam! If not, I'll surely be back at Oriental Zen next year hahaha
PS there aren't a lot of eating areas or stores really near the hotel but Dapitan St. (Back of UST) is really near and walkable. Trikes and taxis are also easy to come by, but we used uber and grabcar to get around.
