Each time I'm in Davao, I don't let any chance pass without visiting this dessert shop. They serve awesome desserts, which changes from time to time depending on the chef.

This place is quite small with an ambiance of elegance while still trying to achieve the feel and comfort of an open kitchen. You can freely sit there as you eat your cake and drink coffee. If you're lucky, the chef might be there and you can get to talk to him. He's friendly and really sociable.

Isn't that pastry above beautiful? Just look at how detailed the decorations are. Just imagine how lovingly and painstakingly it was prepared. And ladies and gentlemen, that pastry is a cake.

And it doesn't even look like a cake. It's a work of art! 10024

But the cake's amazingness doesn't stop there. It tastes divine too!

And would you even think that the kind of cake that lies underneath all those pretty sugar decorations is a... carrot cake?

Yes, a carrot cake!

Some might get grossed out when they hear the word "carrot", much more when it's used in a cake.

But Osvaldo's Cake's carrot cake isn't your typical icky carrot cake. It's a delightful pastry that's been taken to an entirely different level.

The cake is very moist, and its flavors are deep and rich. Notes of vanilla, cinnamon and nutmeg shine through while still retaining the natural and subtle taste of carrots. Walnuts then add contrast to the texture of this gorgeous cake.

Plus, the cake isn't overly sweet - it's just enough that it hits the spot. 128077

That cake was actually given to my sister for her birthday, and it's made-to-order. We were told that the pastry chef, Joel Rodriguez, lovingly makes all of the cakes himself, and so you need to order at least two days ahead for made-to-order cakes.

I haven't been to the shop itself, but judging from this cake, and all the raves I've been hearing about them, I can't wait to drop by and taste all of their pastries! 128522
