QUICK TRIVIA:

Did you know that oysters are one of the most popular aphrodisiacs? According to Google. 128513

If I were to list down some of the most low-profile restaurants in the city, Oyster Boy would be one of them.

They are not as popular as the hipsterish, organic-ish next best restau that keeps on sprouting in all corners of Metro Manila but they sure as h*ll deliver.

This restaurant has been around for so many years already and I feel that it's not given the proper attention that it deserves. If I were selfish, I'd love that because I hate to see one of my favorite spots turn into one of those long-queued eating spots, but I want to let people know that there is a restaurant that offers good food, has been around long enough to earn respect, and is consistent with the quality...plus the price is very reasonable. It's just sad that they had to close down some of their branches and I couldn't understand why. 128533

Oyster Boy, as the name suggests, prides itself in offering the freshest oysters delivered daily from Iloilo, where one of the best oysters come from. They offer a varied selection of this popular mollusk. There's the staple Rockefeller, the Natural Steamed oyster, the Lime Freeze, Kilawin, etc.

Next to Salmon, the oyster is something that I could probably eat for days or even weeks.

When I started eating at Oyster Boy probably 10 years ago, I didn't really try the oysters because I was smittened by their Crispy Tadyang so everytime I went there, that's the only thing I ordered. Until I found someone who shared the same passion as I have for oysters. 12852210084 #kilig

I've been to many places and have tried different oysters cooked in different ways, some failed, some were delicious but nothing really pierced through my heart like how the fresh oysters of Pangasinan did. And it was understandable to fall inlove with it because we were the ones getting the shells from the water, so that's how fresh it was. Other than that, most oysters I've had were just ok... until Oyster Boy.

First time I've tried it with my partner in crime, I took the liberty of choosing which ones we'll try first. I was a bit kabado because I had this notion that it won't be as good but I still took charge and chose based on how they described it in the menu (it really helps when your menu has description). I got the Lime Freeze, the Wasabi and the Kilawin. And since then, everytime we visited the place, that's our default order. For our most recent visit, we added the Natural Steamed Oysters plus Sisig, and Danggit.

127925127925127925FRESH OYSTER WITH LIME FREEZE (Php 150/6 pcs; Php275/dozen)- This is my most favorite out of all the oyster choices they have. As shown in the photo, it's fresh oyster with crushed ice infused with lime, neatly placed on a white ceramic shallow bowl or plate (I don't know what they're called. Lol), with ice and a couple of sliced lime. I eat this by squeezing a little of the lime on top and detaching the meat from its shell and then pushing the whole thing into my mouth with a big slurp 128513128540 The slight sour, tangy taste of the lime marries well with the sweet, plump, uber juicy freshness of the oyster. I can't help but rave about it every single time! I literally get kilig in every bite. We ordered 2 dozens of this. Yum. 128522

127925127925127925OYSTER KILAWIN (260) - A dozen oysters are already plucked from its shell and mixed together with the typical ceviche ingredients. Very juicy, not too acidic, and even with the sourness of the vinegar, you can still taste the natural sweetness of the meat. This is an essential tandem with your ice-cold beer. 128522 This is something that I can't get enough of as well. We had 2 orders of this too.128077

127925127925 127925FRESH OYSTERS WITH WASABI COCKTAIL SAUCE (160/6; 275/12)- Oyster on a shell with cocktail wasabi on top. This is not for the faint of heart. Each swig jolts your natutulog na puso. 128514 For those who are truly brave and are fans of everything spicy, this is going to be a delight. But for those who thinks a jalapeño in a bottle is already very hot, then you should prepare yourself. As typical to the wasabi's characteristic, you will feel its kick once the sauce touches the very sensitive part of you tongue and goes right through your nose up to your eyes and makes you shed tears.128514 I know that from experience. 128513128513 And to give you an idea on how spicy it is, I am a bicolano who loves everything spicy and eats the sili in sinigang, but everytime I eat this, I try to cheat my way out of spicy death by scraping off a little of the sauce, forcefully pushing the oyster down my throat. Just kidding. 128513 I just make sure it doesnt touch the edge of my tongue which is the most sensitive. Then once you chew it, that's when you'll taste the explosion of flavours in your mouth. 128522

127925127925 STEAMED FRESH OYSTERS (260/12) - fresh oyster that are just steamed and drizzled with sinamak. Extremely fresh and juicy. 128522 I would recommend this to the purists. 128522

I only get the fresh selection because I think it's a waste of oyster goodness if you cook it. Most especially that it's super duper fresh. 128522

We also ordered Sisig and danggit which are also both good but my attention was entirely focused on the oysters. Lol.

This by far, is the BEST in the metro for me, bar none. 128522

And I used the musical notes as representations of my rating, 3 being the highest because everytime I take a bite of those succulent sea meat, napapakanta ako. 128513128513

The price and the customer service is excellent as well. So yeah, underrated I say. 128522

This place has deteriorated over the years - the quality of food and service has diminished.

During my last visit, the place smelled bad. So we opted staying outside (so as not to smell the funk inside) where it was full of mosquitos.

The food used to be better and there were more servings before. In any case, their oysters are still good. I love that they have several oyster dishes to choose from and try. I say "several" instead of a lot because it used to be a lot. Was surprised to see in their menu that those that I used to order are no longer being served. I like their oyster rockefeller, which was the only dish I like that was retained in the menu.

We also ordered sisig, garlic rice and lechon kawali. They were reasonably priced and tasted okay.

I am willing to give this place a second chance this year and to try it again!I am keeping my fingers crossed and I'm hoping that their food and service improve! 128522

My first time for vodka cruiser pero parehas masarap ang raspberry at blueberry. Medyo mahal nga lang. 150 a bottle compared to tanduay ice which I usually drink. Of course the price of a bucket is the best! We go for pale pilsen rather than sanmig light

The food was good. Ang serving nila good for 2 persons. Nywei, over all ciguro 8/10. :)

Good oysters (duh) and a guy who practically did everything. Served the menu, took the order, (cooked the food?), served the food, even opened the door for us when we left.
