This small patch of eating area serves serious food for the hungry. With less embelishments and useless decocorations each square inch of dining area is maximizedt. Tucked in the small corner of the artsy-fartsy Cubao Expo complex, they give you the good old pinoy film nostalgia and a Filipino craving satisfaction. This establishment is owned by the son of Pen Medina hence the name PenLen's ( I just assume )

The lechon kawali fried over fried rice with vinaigrette is my favorite.

Penpen's in Cubao-x specializes in Pinoy comfort food.
They do add their own twist to it but still maintain the authentic flavor we all know sans the too-sweet, too-salty taste we come to expect.
The place offers a cozy atmosphere.
The seating isn't really comfortable but it isn't a place to lounge.
Mostly just a place to fill up before going for a bender inside Cubao-X itself.
The meals aren't cheap but they do come in generous helpings.
The staff are also polite and they know exactly
what they serve.
They can tell you what is good and what are the best pairings for the food they offer.

I have loved this place the very first time I tasted their food. I love their Filipino movie comic-type of design. And they served Filipino dishes with style! 128077

Once you enter the restaurant, you will notice the designs are Classic Filipino Movie Posters. They serve Pinoy Fusion Cuisine. I like the Tinapa Rice with Munggo Espesyal.

Sorry for being judgmental but I didn't expect that they would serve good food here 9996️.

Place: It looks ok..the walls are designed with prints of old movies..nice!

Food:
Their menu was exceptional. I had the tinapa flakes pasta (P158). It was sooo good! The sauce was based from canned tomato 128077

Service: Average

*the bill was placed in a small treasure chest #Cool

they made us wait for our food for soooooo long, i mean, that's ok if you'll apologize for asking us to wait. but the lady there was rude and not even sorry for the delay. a little pricey for a food that's not even that delicious.grr

They made us wait for our food for like a couple of hours. Nothing special with the food. Service was bad. Waste of time.

Because my boyfriend and i had to go through the crazy rain from school just to get home, we decided to reward ourselves with a pig out sesh at penpen's.

We decided to order laing, three cheese baked bangus belly, garlic rice and isaw chicharon. Oh yeah and he ordered the bottomless pandan ice tea.

The laing wasn't really spicy, it tasted good and the gata didn't overpower it.

My favorite, their three cheese bangus belly is the bomb diggity, the serving is good for 2 since it was the belly lang talaga. The cheeses and the garlic on the belly was sooo good. (Sorry walang picture yun I got hungry when i saw it)

Their garlic rice is great too, it was served on a sizzling platter and well the huge serving kinda shocked me kasi sabi ni kuya waiter good for 2 na eh, nahalata niya atang gutom na kami128517

The isaw chicharon looked like pretzels. Unhealthy pretzels that is. My boyfriend loved this. Complete guilty pleasure. There was a bit of flour on it but the way they cooked it didn't make the isaw shrivel up. It really did taste like chicharon and they took out the insides of the isaw kaya walang gross chicken "leftovers".

And my boyfriend's iced tea was served in a HUGE glass. Service was great since every time our glasses were empty the waiter would fill them up right away.

Food is affordable and tastes great128077

The problem with this place is parking and well after you eat here you'd smell like food.

This time my boyfriend and i both ordered their bagnet with garlic rice and asian vinaigrette.

And we also got their bottomless pandan ice tea, i don't normally go for bottomless but it was only 55php so i grabbed the chance.

Our ice tea's were placed in big ass glasses so talagang sulit. It was ice tea with a hint of pandan.

The food we got was served in a bowl. I think the rice was already 2 cups and the taste of the garlic rice reminded me of home. The rice was really good and it wasn't dry.

The bagnet was also really good and the vinaigrette was a good match, it didn't taste at all weird. Yun nga lang bitin sa pieces. I would've liked it too if they served the garlic rice with liempo.(yun na nga gagawin ko next time)

Anyway the food is good and budget friendly. We had lunch here but one time my friend and i had dinner here and the place was packed.

So good service and good food. Definitely another fave resto of mine.
