A hole in the wall, with excellent honest grub.

What did we have? Every Looloo review recommended the Kapalmuks, so that had to be on the order. Excellent. I prefer it to crispy pata, it's easier to eat, and the deep scoring of the mukha allows the frying oil all the way down to the bone delightfully crisping the meat under the skin.

Hito adobong, good.

Grilled tuna belly, excellent. Chargrill creating a real smokey flavour and the soft moist meat done to a succulent turn.

Mustasa salad ordinary.

It would all have gone well with an SM Cervesa Negra, but I've given up beer for Lent. Next time...

Decor is odd, but you're not paying Shang prices, so live with it.

This place is defined by their Kapalmuks, which is better than crispy pata and any other face-off products I have tried. Aside from this, everything else is just okay. Nothing else pops out.

The food was okay. Nothing special about the menu except the Kapalmuks which tastes like sinful cholesterol and high blood. Haha.

I wasn't impressed with the service at all. The waiters would stand in their corner and it takes several calls for them to respond to customers.

My friends and I ordered their specialty Kapalmuks (the star of the night!) which is shown in the picture. It was soo crispy and yummy but I think it gave me highblood haha totally psychological though... Or not? HAHA. I liked the soysauce, vinegar, sili and onion mix in the sauce that came with it. But my friend requested for Mang Tomas which also works. The face is kinda creepy right? 128514 Along with that, we also ordered Kilawin Tanigue and rice with mangoes on top (Bundok Rice?) that's totally good for sharing. I really liked the rice!! And oh, if your order is over 1000php, you can avail of their sisig for only 18php which was what we did.

Best kapalmuk's ever. This is very sinful I must admit but this delectable treat is good for a caloric splurge. 128540. At 695 per piece, this could be shared by 4 pax. This is also availble for take out and comes in a nice box 128522

The legend --- wait for it -- DARY! Kapalmuks! Deep fried pork head! Surprisingly tastier than the ever so reliable Crispy Pata! It may not look that appetizing, but flavor-wise it's awesome. Experience-wise, incomparable!

But besides the Kapalmuks, the place is as ordinary and maybe a little below par than anything else...

One dish to rule them all: the KAPALMUKS.

For those who aren't aware of the vernacular, it a play on the phrase "Kapal (ng) mukha" (literally meaning "thick-faced") - which is apt given that the dish is essentially a fried pig face.

How good is it? Imagine Crispy Pata without much of the meat - which leaves mostly fat, bone, and most importantly, the SKIN. Flavor wise, this is [inherently] superior to crispy pata.

Of course it's also a heart-attack waiting to happen - so order it at your own peril.

If you do, chances are you won't regret it - seldom does death taste this good :)

Pepeton's is one of those restaurants I drive by often but have never stepped foot in. So it was a nice surprise to find a great restaurant hidden along my daily route home. Pepeton's is a bar and grill, not unlike Jerry's or Dencio's. Last night, some friends and I dined with the owners of Pepeton's.

We feasted on their house specialties and best sellers such as the kapalmuks, squid heads and crispy catfish salad.

Among all the dishes we ordered, the kapalmuks remained the show stopper. I know the name sounds funny but it suits the dish very well. Kapalmuks is a deep fried pig's head. The skin was nice and crunchy and although it wasn't as meaty as the other parts of the pig, it made for a very good meal.

So all you pork lovers out there. This dish is a must try!
